Nintendo Doesn't Hate the Hardcore, Its Fans Do

Kombo: It's been a common refrain over the past few years that Nintendo has left its hardcore fans hung out to dry, eschewing longtime fans in favor of pursing the lucrative yet fickle casual market. We've watched as month in and month out casual titles like Wii Fit and Wii Play have dominated sales charts, and lamented the fact that many of our Wiis sit unused for weeks or even months on end due to the lack of titles that appeal to the more traditional gaming tastes.

It's funny that we complain though, because if you really want to get to the heart of why Nintendo doesn't make more hardcore games then it's time to take a good hard look in the mirror. The simple fact is that we just aren't buying enough games to justify Nintendo wasting any more energy on this whiny, impossible to please fanbase.

Haha, it's funny that they use Square Enix as an example of hardcore games not selling on the DS considering the DS has Square Enix's best selling games this gen and they have a whole bunch of million sellers.

A lot of people didn't buy Punch Out! though because it's pretty much a straight remake and a lot of people weren't happy.

It's at 300k in a month. that isnt bad for any game really.

It's just a true hardcore game and most will pss on it. it requires a lot more skill than your average game to beat. you have to remember that Sony brought in millions of casual gamers that think just because you push one button but there is tons of blood that the game is some how hardcore. So when they see a real hardcore game like Punch Out they pass because they already know they dont have the skill to beat it.

Seferoth75. You're the guy that claimed that Killzone2 and LBP were sales flops over and over and over again. Now, suddenly 300k a month is good to you?
Hypocrite much?

mastiffchild6182d ago

300k in a month is sh1t for a first party Nintendo title though, is it not?

Also it's hardly effin difficult either. Yes, it gets more difficult after the first, pointless riound of fights but even after that it's simple to neat-all the talk opf how hard it was going to be made me think it would be an incredible update but it isn't-it's a bit prettier and that's about it.

Hardcore? Not to me, though I wasn't ever a big fan in the first place, but S&P2-now that's a harcore game and yes, Ninty can still eff off for the Fatal Frame 4 debacle. You think if it was Sony's straight choice we would still have no Yakuza 3 in the west? Of course we would but Nintendo still don't show third parties the love they should. Not ebough trailers or demos from 3rds on Nintendo channel etc proves how little Ninty care for good games not made by them for their platform.

Puzzles me no end.

Sure kid whatever. I am sure you can post videos of you breezing through the game. It doesnt even have a difficulty level built in, It'a old school hardcore not your casual hardcore you kids think of today. It's not COD where anyone can beat it.

Sadly your opinion of what is hardcore means nothing to me..BTW Punch Out isnt first party so try again. Nintendo didnt make the game. Just publishing it.

@darkfanboy, I do hope you're not still wasting your time talking to me. Sadly the fact that I have you on ignore and have for months seems to be something you cannot comprehend.

Wait... That is so amusing.. Nintendo does offer demos so they dont care about gamers.... Dude you have some serious issues....You know what you can join darkfanboy on ignore..Waste of time responding to someone who'll use any excuse to justify their hate of a company..

SaiyanFury6182d ago (Edited 6182d ago )

It's not only core gamers that abandoned the Wii. It's partially Nintendo's fault as well as the third parties. Core gamers should support it as there are great things to be had on the Wii.

Anon19746181d ago

I think it's kinda funny that you have me on ignore. I call you out again and again as the hypocrite troll you are, and everyone else gets to see it, point and laugh and you're like a guy with a "kick me" sign on his back, completely oblivious to what's going on behind his back.

I have no idea what you get out of posting on this site. Clearly you have no business discussing games because your simply too close minded. It's kinda like a racist discussing black history month. You're prejudiced and blind to anything else, why should anyone take anything you say seriously? Seriously, keep debubbling this guy. We've almost got him down.

So it's the fans that stopped Project Zero 4 from getting released in Europe and the US? Stupid Nintendo! Stop blaming your stupidity on others.

EDIT: Oh and I forgot about Winter! That got canned because Nintendo wanted to keep their system kid-friendly and then they go and release RE: Umbrella Chronicles and HotD: Overkill. Hypocrites.

" Oh and I forgot about Winter! That got canned because Nintendo wanted to keep their system kid-friendly"

What?
It got canned because at that time no publisher had any believes in that game.
There were some mature games already back then.
In fact Reggie clearly stated that any type of game was welcome, they want the wii to attract everyon. He even said its okai to have Manhunt on it.

Miyamoto believes his games don't need violence to bring a good/fun experience.
But no where did any of them say Wii is to be "kid friendly". Explain games like manhunt and scarface and godfather...madworld? and some more.

" and then they go and release RE: Umbrella Chronicles and HotD: Overkill. Hypocrites. "
...

Please know your info before you go into complete BS mode? K thnx

Seferoth756182d ago

NO it never got canned at all. It is one of many demos that go around. BTW the game can still come out. But you cannot cancel what was never started.

The title of this "article" is ridiculous by itself, is it worth the read?

TriforceLightning6182d ago

It's about damn time that someone figured out the difference between Nintendo's "core" and the medias preconcieved notion of what Wii owners want.

JonnyBigBoss6182d ago

Totally disagree with the news article. Nintendo doesn't hate the hardcore, they just have absolutley no clue how to provide for them.

BrotherNick6182d ago

Lol, like you supported them last gen. Anyways I hope you enjoy motion controls fanboy. *snickers*

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg30d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree30d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai30d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

I enjoyed both Rush games, I did think the action was sometimes too fast to see what was coming up in terms of hazards though, which meant replaying the same stage a bunch of times, other than that they were enjoyable, good special stages, 3D sections and bosses for the most part.

DS is one of the best consoles of all time. Such a rich library of software
Zelda were all glorious on it.
