Sony may have the tech now, but they aren't implementing it. Also, the 360 will be putting out a new system sooner then you guys think. With that being said, Im pretty sure that the next xbox will have double, if not triple the RAM, better processor, and built in Natal. What are you guys gonna be saying after every dev gets their hands on a machine that has 2 gigs of RAM or more? You still gonna say the ps3 is better? None of you obviously understand that these consoles are just low end pc's. The first person to bring the next gen will be ahead again, and I would bet 100 bucks it isn't gonna be Sony.

Edit. Sony always has the better tech? Since when? If I remember correctly the Dreamcast had better graphics then the ps2. The Dreamcast also had online first, and had better controllers for the system. That was 2 generations ago. Also, Microsoft has better online integration then Sony does. The only thing Sony has is the Cell, that only runs at 3.1 ghz per second(same as the 360 btw) oh and bluray with its x2 disc reading. Sure the ps3 comes standard with a harddrive but you use most of that space installing games. Oh, Wifi is just a luxury, and the 360 has that optional, and if it wasn't for Microsoft the psn wouldn't be what it is today. Which btw isn't half as good as xbox live. You people are clueless.

After all it helped develop it, VC1 codec will be used all the time, which is the better one. There is a new tech here in Australia that has DVDs with 100 times more space than Blu rays, if thats implemented I am sure they will opt for that. I think Bill Gates gave money towards its research too. Either way, Sony would be mad to implement 3D until the TVs are widespread. Microsoft know what they are doing and time and time again people doubt their allegiance to improving tech. Sony is not slouch either and I think we would all be naive to think they don't do regular sleep overs at both companies, Corporate is very like that ;)

The misconception here is that somehow, with just a bios upgrade the PS3 can do 3D games tomorrow and no other systems can! Not true. Remember even the 8 bit Sega Master System had 3D games. Sega added stereo scopic 3D games to its 8bit system without a bios upgrade! So all this talk about a system needing a bios upgrade to do 3D game is probably PR talks to make it sounds like they are unlocking some hidden power in the system.

The issue here is that steroscopic games requires significant processing overhead. The most promising 3D tech requires an image to be generated twice at different view angles. On top of that refresh rates has to be much higher than normal (idealy 120 frames/second) to eliminate flickering. Ask Kill Zone 2 or Gears 2 developers to try and crank their game to 120fps. They just can't!

With top games already pushing the upper range of current systems' capability, 3D games is that much more difficult to do properly without killing image fidelity. This problem is true for both the 360 and PS3. So to give developers some breathing room, it is better for both Sony and MS to implement 3D on much more powerful systems, perhaps next gen. If Sony is bringing this out on the current gen they are rushing it.

The UBisoft game based on James Cameron's The Avatar uses 3-D technology. It was shown using this technology during E3 behind closed doors. So if you can't do it with hardware, it can be done with software.

They showed GT5 and wipeout in 3D at CES

Though if i remember rightly they needed at least 2 ps3's to run it.

they also had a game running at 4 times HD at 240 frames per second.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
