Ship it before it's done, and then update with patches. Bah!

DARKDRAGON2546188d ago

This has nothing to do with the game not being doen. the game is done. They made a decision about control options early on and now there is backlash.

AlienGorilla6188d ago

Forget about the face buttons. I want the old analog controls. Haymakers with R2? WTF is that?

They should atleast give the option to use the old analog controls.

And WTF is that Corner Man Mini-Game? That was a bad choice.

The game looks good though, i might just pick it up.

RealityCheck6188d ago

I've said it many times: Choice is good. Whether it's giving a choice of motion versus non-motion controls, or as in this case between old and new mapping; choice is always good. You can please more players, have better reviews, less backlash, etc. Not to do so is stubbornness from the developers, reminds me of Lair.

My Norton is detecting 6 menace for your system on this website. Gosh N4G is plague with those.

I was real excited for fight night until they removed the face buttons. I tried the demo, and now I refuse to buy or play the game until they put the face buttons back in.
I don't care what anyone says. It's impossible to be as accurate or quick with a analog stick as with face buttons. It was frustrating just trying to play that Broken game, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get off one accurate combo. Trying to give a hook to the face was nearly impossible with any kind of speed. And don't give me the excuse that I don't know how to play the game because in fight night round 3 I was one of the best. the game still takes alot of skill but face buttons allow you to do what you want to, you can't make a mistake.

This is set to Enrage the Internets, isn't it? Fight Night's *boring* with face button controls, though. It's all about the analogue sticks and it always was. I don't get why people care.

AndyA6188d ago

I really don't get the "sticks are unresponsive" argument. They feel fine to me, much better than Round 3. And, yes, it's how the game should be played.

Mindboggle6188d ago

I agree, if you guys want a button masher just get the UFC game. That should satisfy your needs...

StanLee6188d ago

Man, I hate UFC. It's so frustrating having players spam heavy attacks for flash knockouts.

Mindboggle6188d ago

I actually enjoyed UFC game, but the flash knockouts are a real problem. However Im getting Fight night as there is a bit more skill involved than getting that lucky one punch knockout..

Pennywise6188d ago

Hmmm Ive fought many many UFC fights and I have been flash knocked out maybe one out of 20 times. How is this a problem?

DARKDRAGON2546188d ago

wait till they are about to swing and shoot. That'll take them down. People do spam for flash KO's but there are ways around it. UFC is more than just boxing. Get them in a clinch and give them some knees or just make them tap. People like Brock Lesnar will tap instantly because he has no ground game

Syko6188d ago (Edited 6188d ago )

If you can't beat the n00bs that spam punches by taking them down, Counter Grappling the punch and beating them senseless or tapping them as they struggle on the ground as you mount them....These are the easiest kids to beat as they seem to think it is Street Fighter 4. Adapt and implement your game plan on them. That is the basis of MMA...

Perhaps you better stick to Fight Night. I was actually a huge fan of FN3 but after playing the FN4 demo and the UFC demo. UFC is a much deeper game and with 2 entirely separate and different areas to learn (Ground and Stand-Up) much more strategy on both offense and defense.

But, about the story itself. I agree with the decision to go Analog only. It levels the playing field, since face buttons would be used 98% of the time online if it was an option.

No face punching in a boxing game? Preposterous! ;)

thetamer6188d ago

This is a good decision and will sort the boys from the men

Consoldtobots6188d ago

you aint kiddin, go to easports forums> fight night rd4 and you will see 40+ pages of little girls crying that they won't buy the game cause it has no button punching.

bpac1234567896188d ago

That's just stupid. If the anlog stick was as responsive or accurate as the face buttons than I would have no problem, but there not. What's even more odd is the developers choice to take the haymakers off the analog stick and make that the only button used for punching. It felt so much better in fight night round three when haymakers where done on the analog like every other punch.
Options are always better and to remove options only alianates half of your customers. until they return that option to me I'm not buying the game. I don't want to be limited in my accuracy in any way, especially when one punch can determine a fight.

Guess we won't see another Fight Night until next gen at the soonest. Did any notable boxing games come out this gen at all?

lptmg2358d ago

the Creed game for PSVR was pretty good.

Skuletor2358d ago

Didn't know it existed, I'll have to look it up. Thanks

Petebloodyonion2358d ago

Fight night round 4 is still the best boxing game at the moment.
I still pop it in my old Xbox from time to time and nothing beats the feeling of a close fight in the late rounds.

isarai2358d ago (Edited 2358d ago )

I liked round 3 better myself, it gave you a lot more controll especially when it came to defense, which really allowed you to develop your own style and finesse to things.

Petebloodyonion2358d ago

I loved Round 3 but it was nearly impossible to win as a technical boxer.
The game heavily focused on the counterpunch Philly stance and Ko made winning a match by points nearly impossible.
Also, the losing boxer on a scorecard would get a boost of Stamina later on (lousy catch-up logic) was not something I was fond of.
I could also add the Headbutt that made cutting easy.
But I loved the corners mini-games or the dept of working on bruises and cuts.
The animation was also fantastic.

SkatterBrain2358d ago

cut the UFC Servers too , some of those grapples look awkward when people would walk in and see 2 guys straddling each other, i tried soo hard to make it not look weird

traumadisaster2358d ago

Tbh the actual matches look awkward when passerbys walk in and see the straddling party. I constantly think get up and fight.

BQ322358d ago

Round 4 was the best the franchise had to offer. You could find success playing to each fighters strengths and anytime somone wanted to spam a particular cheese i could always find a realistic boxing strategy to counter it. Champion started off pretty good but the game was very exploitable and became a cheese fest. The auto block severely hurt the game as well. If they ever make a new game i hope they look at how they achieved competitve balance in the gameplay of Round 4.

TheColbertinator2358d ago

Graphics were top notch in FN4. Too bad EA never returned to it.

We need Fight Night to return to the ring

Improved 4K visuals, a new generation of boxers and improved multiplayer lobbies…man, that would be great. Until that day comes, Fight Night is going to remain outside of the periphery of the fighting game genre, as the ref slowly counts one of the finest franchises out of the ring.
