I just think it looks stupid because he doesn't look like Max Payne at all.

as long as they keep the graphic novels and the soundtrack intact... i'm happy..

and new max doesnt seem to bother me .. but the brazilian back drop does ... and the new voice actor for max ...

I'm still a little turned off by his new look but I agree. We have to play the game first before we judge.

Game A is seen as being very similar to another game and they hate it because it's not different enough.

Game B shows changes and they hate it because they've changed it.

No FANS hate change Resistance is a good example.

Resistance 1 was released a 3 million have bought it, the fans really enjoyed it... but not everyone, there where moans about the colour of the game the cutscenes etc. Insomniac then went out to improve on the moans people had and released Resistance 2 now the fans wheren#t happy, it was too colourful and the cutscenes too stunning.

When you make a sequel, there are some thing you can change and some things you have too keep (to mantain the feeling of the series) Saying "gamerz hate teh changeezz!!!" is stupid and misses the point.

Max Payne was liked by many fans because of its noir film style, wich seems lost judging by the scans.

And I just don't like max's new look, so what?Is it too much to not like a character design? It's true that 12 years have passed, but we have too many bald main characters already.

But I will let "the game will speak for itself"

It's not that he's bald. It's that his environment looks like uncharted, changed the voice actor, some bs cover system etc its a completely different game. Took away everything that made it charming.

At the end of the day Max Payne won't be the same ever again, why? Because Sam Lakes not writing it. So either don't buy it at all, rent it, or buy it if/when it's get/getting good scores.

Its not that gamers are afraid of change. Personally, its that i'm seeing Max Payne starting to look like every other single game now. Just his new look for example. Whats with the shaved head? How many characters in games have shaved heads? He look exactly like Sam Fisher in double agent. I think the concept art on the main web site might actually be copied from the sam fisher mug shot from double agent.

There's nothing wrong with change in video games, but there IS something wrong when the game doesn't feel like a true continuation of the series. Max's new look is a prime example of this: I don't have a problem with the fact that Max has changed - it's expected after 12 years - but he doesn't seem familiar at all.

From what we've seen and read, this game isn't familiar. I mean, what's the point in having a sequel if it doesn't have any familiarity in relation to the previous iterations? If people think 'Bullet Time' is what made the Max Payne games... well, it shows how much you know about Max Payne. What's happened to the dark, gritty setting of New York? The iconic Max Payne figure? The unique style of storytelling (which may still be in the game to be fair)?

This mini-rant makes it sound like I'm one of those who feel like this game will be a disgrace to the series. But I'm willing to give Rockstar the benefit of the doubt, for now. I'm sure an intelligent development like Rockstar will be well aware of how cherished the series is, and will ensure that they don't do anything to tarnish their reputation.

Saying that, none of the info released thus far suggests that this is going to feel familiar as a Max Payne game.

I sure hope its used digitised graphics like the first. Sadly, I bet it hasn't.

I read the article in Game Informer and was intrigued to see R* taking a chance on something that might not jive with the norm. Gamers constantly scream that we get the same old game over and over and this is a good example of trying to expand on that. Whether they pull it off or not is a different story, but you have to give R* credit for making a character whose looks might not be the most appealing.

also its not just how he looks but everything just seem out of place and wrong, even if this was a new ip I would say the same thing. also dont try and convince yourself that this is ok by pulling the( Its ok because 12 years of hard life card........ old, bald, fat guy that has a santa clause beard is poppin pills and flying through the skys in slowmo as if hes 26 and doesnt use viagara. he cant even lift those cannons he holdin. also the game was unique from other games you simpletons. The game changes is makeing it the same old same old. some games arent supposed to change much because they already different from the games out there.

I can't wait for 3. I got the first two games on the PC. Since then the whole world went into a console war. I'm not sure If I should get the next max payne on my traditional PC, or go with the console winner.

I hate change for the worst. Like obviously dumbing down games. Max Payne 1-2 were fast and fluid, now with the addition of unneeded things like cover systems it's going to slow down and automate the game far too much.

I read the article and I'm still not convinced. They can keep all the gameplay features but without Max even looking like max, or without the same voice actor playing Max, and without NYC, it's going to feel like a game doing Max Payne style gameplay but little else. I'm not excited at all.

Personally I love change, buy new IPs all the time. BUT...when you establish a unique brand and then make the lead unrecognisable, change the VA, rip off the environments and cover system from the latest 3rd person shooter big boys (Uncharted), I don't see a bold new direction or old dog coming back to reclaim his throne, but rather a lack of confidence in knowing your role in an already overcrowded world of shooters. I hope it's more than just a name slap to sell copies. It's happened before. Far Cry 2 has nothing to do with Far Cry 1, but at least they didn't stick it on the moon either.

I think some people are having doubts because Max Payne is frankly looking like the imitator now rather than the originator. Why the VA had to go I have no idea, but there goes a big chunk of continuity/credibility considering how big a part the VA had in the first 2 monologue driven games. Technically he should still sound the same 12 years later, the guy's not 86 years old. Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime 20 years ago, 20 years, yet still sounds the same in the Michael Bay movies.

He doesn't look unique anymore either, people have already compared him to a half dozen other people from Sam Fisher to the guy from IronMan to Karnov in a wife beater. It makes a difference when you're staring at the guy's back for 10 hours of gameplay and he looks and sounds nothing like the advertised name.

The environment doesn't have the unique dark/cold/film noir Sin City detective vibe of previous games. It looks like RE5 and Uncharted and is coming out the same year as RE5 and Uncharted 2, so right off the bat it's looking like the follower. Of course people are gonna be concerned about this, as they were a couple years ago when the Tom Jane Punisher movie transplanted him from NYC to sunny Tampa Bay Florida. A move that went over so well they stuck him back in NYC one movie later.

Not buying the hard life thing either. NYC is a hard knocks life. Judging by the screen grabs of where Max is now, it looks like the good life to me. Like somehwere you'd go to retire or take a vacation, not to suffer for 12 years lol. The heck is he gonna monologue about? "The ice crackled like thunder as the waiter dropped the cubes into my margarita. Bikini's everywhere, truly fear is what gives men wings. That and a tan line."

So ya. Change is good, but there's a difference between good change like the Joker in the Dark Knight...and what they did to DeadPool in the Wolverine movie. If I order something called a BigMac, I don't expect them to hand me a salad. I just really hope they know what they're doing with this salad, especially coming out a couple months after the BigMac that is Uncharted 2.

Not noir, very scary. Not same developer is one thing, not same flare and style is another. Very worrying, I have to admit.

RE4 Remake was a very satisfying one. It took a good amount of planning and prep to get. It was a little bit more than just 'do every side quest and find every shiny thing.'
