The System Selling Titles Missing from E3 2009

From the PlanetXbox360 feature article:

"Having seen the end of E3 2009 last week – and we must say, the return to former glory was a resounding success – we thought it would be good to take a look at several titles that were missing from the show. From Rockstar Games not showing any of their titles to Microsoft keeping Rare off the charts, there were plenty of games that failed to make a presence at E3 2009. Taking a deeper look, here is the list of those AAA system selling games that were oddly missing from the entire show:"

Great list, I totally agree on Max Payne 3 and Beyond Good and Evil; where was Rockstar and what were they wasting time on if it wasn't the expo?

Forrest Gump6230d ago

They were working on their next mega franchise,Agent.

Coming exclusively to the Playstation 3 :)

TheColbertinator6230d ago

Pffft Someone clearly forgot when Rockstar had some spotlight

Cthulhu6230d ago (Edited 6230d ago )

Terrible idea to put Rockstar's "next big game" on the worst selling system of the gen where 97% of the games available underperform.

Anyway, BGE2 is hardly a system seller, and I'm not that interested in Max Payne 3, since Remedy is not doing it (but they are doing Alan Wake, which looks phenomenal).

but it didn't demonstrate it's point. The only true system seller on that list would be Halo: Chronicles. The rest are multi-platform. Rare is working on the Natal project so we're probably only going to see then put out content for that. And we wont see the true nature of that until, probably, next E3.

The list is full of games I wanted to see, but many of those games aren't system sellers.

I was at E3,and while there bumped into a couple of old friends I has worked with in the past that have worked on "Beyond Good & Evil 2".

I got to see a short (but very sweet test animation),and some target renders along with some pre-viz art for future portions/ideas for the game. And I can say that as of now,BG&E2 is right there with "The last guardian (TRICO) as my most wanted...

Alot should be shown at the beginning of 10'...

I also saw some new footage, screens of Rage, and this game is also on my top 5 list of any game known to be coming, lots of new info is coming real soon now for Rage...

Lots of what will be showing in these next couple Months was shown at E3,but behind the scenes,in fact most of the best material.Sites were there gathering materials, and are now waiting on embargoes to lift...

Defectiv3_Detectiv36230d ago

I think the reason they didn't show off Max Payne was because its rumored to be very similar to Uncharted 2.

Does anyone really still believe Halo Chronicles is a reality? After Peter Jackson's last foray into gaming(King Kong) we're lucky he'll spare us.

Hearing a lot of good buzz on Rage though.

Nice list, I always like to hear what people were thinking was missing from each year's E3 Expo......

What happened to WarDevil?

I remember reading how the dev's were a sham and incompetent and then they fired back and then disappeared again.

Another couple are Dead Island and Warhounds!

A mate of mine, inknown to me at the time, applied for a job with Digiguys that was advertised in January. He's a very well qualified guy for the post he applied for but didn't even get a reply from them which he reckons is odd and may have meant the ads were a sham to get more investment.

They also promised a new site last year/beginning of this for the game which on last new years eve they said was still in production AND we would see something exciting during Q1 this year. When nothing appeared my mate started to think that the project may well be in trouble but as he doesn't know anyone working for the team he can't find out(he's at R* Leeds now though)for me-I've been after proper info for a bit as I liked the idea of the game but nothing ever seemed to appear even after they canceled the 360 version two years back.

We decided it was prolly dead when nothing showed at GDC/E3 this time round-either that or they have run out of cash and are trying to sell the project/raise cash to finish it themselves. I dunnor , obviously , but the signs for it are very, very bleak right now.

Dark General6230d ago

I've been calling that game vaporware for over a year now. That got announced around the same time as Dark Sector and was one oft he first announced games for this gen. No gameplay footage. Ever. Just CG and one lame website. After the main character redesign and NOTHING else after it I've been calling it vaporware and it looks like that's what i'll be.

Freak of Nature6230d ago

I did not see or hear a thing on Wardevil while at E3.It could have been there, and un-noticed by me,but I looked, and found nothing, heard nothing....

I know one artist,a concept artist that worked on the game 1.5 years ago now or so,he has long since moved along, other than that nothing,My quess is that they are in a total refine mode, last I heard was they were creating the game assets to go along with the movie assets on a 1 to 1 ratio...

I hope it gets back on the radar...

Rhythmattic6230d ago

Yeh , I've gotta agree regarding WarDevil.

One I'm looking out for. Hoping its not going to be Vapour-Where as Troll-Killer suggested.

I Suppose , they are a small developer, developing a whole game engine (RTE1080) using fully Procedral code.

C'mon Digiguys !

Homicide6229d ago

The latest trailer said it was releasing 2009, but I don't think that will happen anymore.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle67d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Why the Wii is Such a Nostalgic System in 2026

The Wii is now a retro console. Let’s get nostalgic about an often maligned system.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg73d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree73d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai73d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde74d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy74d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
