By the looks of it, it's gonna be the 8600 GTS for me.

Now how 'bout some DX10-based content to justify that arguably expensive and redundant new Vista operatings system, eh?

Mmmmm....Aero glass...

I think I'm going to hold out for the ATI R600, to at least see how they stack up. I've not been very impressed with Nvidia lately. They still don't have the Vista drivers worked out properly. I still can't use both GPU's on my 7950.

the midrange r600 cards look more promissing. performance of the 8600 gts appears to be pretty average.

Torch6971d ago

...and I'll definitely take both your advice to heart and wait for all the alternatives to become available.

Nonetheless, the two-hundred-dollar area appears to be my sweet spot...unless I decide to get back into 3D modelling/animation (been really, really getting the itch, lately.) Then I'll definitely move my price point up a notch (or two.)

8600 is so average they just got the CORE to 1ghz with air overclocking...

Average huh?

That those weaker ones because they only have max 256mb of ram, the 360 GPU offers nearly all the features of the FULL 8 series only it doesnt have 768mb of ram and isnt FULL DX10 other than that you got a next gen GPU right there in the 360.

are ultimately two different animals...although they share much of the same guts.

And if DX10 delivers as publicised, you're gonna be seeing graphics at a whole new level (it's a big "IF", mind you.) For the life of me, I'm unable to find the issue number, but about five or six months ago, Maximum PC magazine published an issue bearing an attractive female model on the cover...only by reading the fine print did I learn that she was CGI. I never seen anything like it, to be honest: perfect skin tones, excellent bump mapping and ultra-detailed texture maps...It was still hard to believe she wasn't real. Anyway, the kicker is that not only was the ultra-realistic image CGI, but the magazine claims that the model was renderable and animatable AT 60 FPS, specifically because of DirectX 10, they claim.

I've personally been a fan and subscriber of Maximum PC for a few years now, and they appear to come across as quite reputable. I can't help but remain skeptical until I see that model and DX10 in action with my own eyes. But if there's any truth to its claimed potential...the PC's gonna be absolutely mind-blowing.

but the 360 has to share its ram with the cpu. pc does not.

I still can't be asked with Vista and DirectX10, can't wait for my Geforce 7950GT OC 512mb PCI-E card which is coming this Thursday its gonna be great.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing11d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit11d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing11d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9211d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
