Lost Planet 2 Could Be Time Exclusive

As IGN writes, Lost Planet 2 went from being an assumed Xbox 360 exclusive to being totally multiplatform at E3. But not so fast! Xbox 360 owners may be getting a slight advantage with the highly anticipated Capcom sequel.

I still don't understand why people would be happy to get a timed exclusive. I only see this as a lose for gamers.

GiantEnemyCrab6191d ago (Edited 6191d ago )

Agreed. The whole timed exclusive thing doesn't seem to benefit anyone and just gets gamers angry. I can understand if one is behind in development but to hold one back so a system can have it before the other is stupid.

The cheapest and cheesiest way to pretend to have an exclusive.

krouse936191d ago

Hey enemy crab when did you become lets say sensible didnt you used to be an xbox fanboi! lol

ultimolu6191d ago

Agreed, and bubbles for you guys.

raztad6191d ago

Timed exclusives are really lame. They just screw up gamers. If Capcom goes the timed exclusive way with LP2, I wont buy this game, at least not new, or maybe I'll just get a "free" copy for my PC.

Sorry, Capcom can have MS's money or mine, but not both.

peeps6191d ago

exactly. being a timed exclusive for 360 doesn't help 360 gamers out anymore than if it released the same time as the ps3 version. and of coruse it's annoying for ps3 gamers having to wait. I actually think making a game timed exclusive limits sales severely since by the time it comes out on ps3, ppl who were interested are likely to have lost interest and thus not end up buying it

HighDefinition6191d ago

The 1st one was average, I don`t expect anymore from this title.

If it`s is awesome, I`ll buy it and be presently surprised.

BX816191d ago

I agree! Timed exclusives are horrible for gamers!

FamilyGuy6191d ago

It doesn't really bother me, I'll just get it whenever it comes out like i would any other game. Just cuz some get to see it first doesn'tlower my interest but i do think its a pointless tactic once we already know it's coming. If it were unknown or assumed exclusive that would be a different story.

Why dis6191d ago

The PS3 version wasn't even in development when the Devs said they were focusing on the 360 version just a few weeks ago. Sony and Capcom handled this game so poorly at E3 you could tell Sony has been hearing the hype and made the deal with capcom just days before E3 if that.

Blademask6191d ago (Edited 6191d ago )

timed exclusivity is for retards. I'm sorry.

This gen of gaming is the most dumb i've seen.

DLC > retail games.
Timed Exclusivity > Exclusive games.

I'm glad im on the other side of that fence. I never remember a single gaming generation that was defined by multiplats.

chaosatom6191d ago

1) Make time exclusive games.

Why dis6191d ago

Why delay the already almost finished 360 version so that the PS3 version can start development and finish development? they can make cash in DEC/JAN/FEB and don't have to wait for another year or more.

Beast_Master6191d ago

I only own the PS3, so I hope to get it whenever it comes out. 4 player Co-op on RE5's engine is all I need to know at this point. I think this is more like the Orange box scenerio, than MS actually digging in their pockets. I think they started development on 360 and they think they will have that version done first. I think with Don Mattrick, MS would have their pants down and waving it at sony fans if MS had actually paid money for a timed exclusive.

Capcom is in a postition where they really don't have anything for Q4, unless Dead Rising 2 can be finished by then. So I could see them trying to get this out the door to who ever before x-Mas then releasing the PS3 version when it is ready in January.

el zorro6191d ago

Well I think timed exclusives do have an impact. When a lot of people are eager to get their hands on a certain game and one console gets it first people are going to tend to get it for that console. For people like me who own both consoles and are looking forward to Lost Planet 2 there is no way that we are going to wait to get it on the PS3 when we want to play it as soon as possible, so we get it for the 360.

I think timed exclusives are somewhere between a multi-platform game and a full exclusive in terms of the impact it has on the so-called "console wars".

You could argue that timed exclusives are bad, but you could also argue that exclusives are bad in general. Why should a game like MGS4 be only playable by PS3 owners? It's not like Sony owns Konami. My position is that if timed exclusives are bad, so are full exclusives.

Unicron6191d ago (Edited 6191d ago )

Once again Why Dis, WAY to ignore the SAME situation with FFXIII, only the consoles are reversed. You really think they JUST started the PS3 edition? C'mon man, have some common sense relating to the dev and PR process in this industry.

Funny how the 360 edition, according to SE themselves, won't even be STARTED until the PS3 edition IS DONE.

So either 1) they lied or 2) the 360 footage at E3 was from the PS3 build.

Anyways, timed exclusives are a joke. I can wait if I must, since I have a TON of games to play and finish, and even more coming this year... but the principal of the matter gets to me. You're basically saying up to half your fanbase isn't good enough.

thebudgetgamer6191d ago

tell that to square.

:)the only thing this does is hurt their sales.

Jaces6191d ago

Timed exclusive = millions of dollars down the toilet.

Not sure if they payed for that or if it was just a deal to begin with. Either way this is moronic, I can see no benefit out of this.

LONEWOLF2316191d ago

They should just release it for both consoles at the same time!
Time exclusivity is stupid. NOT unless the PS3 version is still far behind the 360 in terms of development then i can understand BUT if its within the 360's dev time it should be a Multi-plat release! Capcom makes more money and the gamers will be happy.

JokesOnYou6191d ago (Edited 6191d ago )

Crab "Timed Exclusives" do benefit the platform who has it exclusive first, so you're wrong when you say it doesn't benefit anybody because as we've seen in the past microsoft have benefited very well off timed exclusives...also its only "bad" and "angers" ps3 gamers, 360 gamers should just be satisfied with being able to play it when its ready. Micro doesn't care if ps fans are upset and why should they?, their priority is to cater to current 360 owners and if a potential 360 buyer is attracted to 360 because they know micro gets certain multiplats first then micro should rightfully continue to seek those opportunities.....ps folks crying on n4g are irrevelant.

I'll say it again the only thing you are garaunteed if you purchased the first LP is to play that game....Capcom didn't screw fans...if LP2 is timed exclusive those ps fans either buy 360 version OR WAIT, El zoro is correct...if timed exclusive is bad then a true exclusive from any 3rd party is worst for all the same reasons.

JOY

Edit Unicorn well I didn't know we were discussing how this affects Capcom financially, but that's Capcoms problem to worry about...Gamers will have to make a descision just like many have to do in a true exclusive situation....Do I want to buy this console to play this game, in this case...its better they just have to wait.

Sarcasm6191d ago

I had the impression from the Playstation blog interview, that Lost Planet 2 will ship the same time as the 360 version.

el zorro6191d ago

When a 3rd party developer makes a game exclusive for one console that is even more money down the toilet. So what's the difference?

You guys act like they are making this decision arbitrarily when it more likely has to do with the fact that the PS3 version simply isn't going to be ready at the same time.

Unicron6191d ago (Edited 6191d ago )

Which means, most often, that said platform manufacturer must have paid for the exclusivity in some form, be it marketing help or whatever. Capcom doesn't care how much it sells on 360, it cares how much it sells across all platforms. Deliberate delaying without incentive is a tad silly, as sales later on will suffer more than likely.

It's not about Micro and Sony, it's about Capcom and third party developers. No, MS doesn't care about "angry Sony fans," but Capcom should, since they will be trying to sell THEIR game, not MS's, to PS3 owners later down the line. It's not about the vocal "crying minority" on N4G, which doesn't even accurately represent anything other than PS3/360 fanboys anyways... it's about a recurring trend of games with split release usually selling more poorly once it hits that second console because now its not the shiny new thing any longer. You also miss the opportunity of doubling up on your marketing the first time through with a massive campaign... unless of course, as I said, MS or Sony is footing the bill.

If a game isn't ready, that's different, and one version shouldn't be held back because of another. Then again, scheduling should have been better considered in that regard. But whatever, it is what it is.

el zorro6191d ago

Did Sony pay Konami for MGS4 exclusivity? Shouldn't Konami care about all of their customers as well? It seems people can't keep their stories straight around here.

If exclusivity is good, then timed exclusivity serves a purpose as well. It is a matter of degree.

Aquanox6191d ago

It only takes somebody who can read between lines to know this is going to be a Timed Exclusive.

If it wasn't, Tretton would've said so explicitly at Sony's Conference, instead he only said "Lost Planet 2 is a game you can expect to be on Playstation 3". A paralell launch would've been subject to a much shiny announcement.

MicroSony4Life6191d ago

I am not justifying time exclusive at all but it's a dog eat dog world. If you think for one minute the Micro and Sony give a damm about you, your crazy and need to realize that those corporation are in it for the money.

bnaked6191d ago

Huh? lol..

Tretton has said at the sony press conference, that the game is coming early 2010 for PS3...

So what is going on here???

who cares?lost planet 2 will offer the same bad controls/gameplay as the first one did...

KingDizzi6191d ago

Well the game does look amazing so I would like to play it as a PS3 owner at the same time as a 360 owner. Why Capcom would want to kill PS3 sales is beyond me.

If not PC it is.

FunAndGun6191d ago

according to the response to #4 on the PSblog, it will be releasing at the same time for all platforms.

http://blog.us.playstation....

but again, I supose that could change.

Bordel_19006191d ago (Edited 6191d ago )

Well, Capcom isn't exactly popular among the ps3 crowd. A move like this would be really stupid on Capcoms part (to make the x360 version a timed exclusive).

Disagrees? Well, I guess it would be a very smart move from Capcom to make it an X360 timed exclusive then. Morons.

sedx6191d ago

bordello you should think before you speak. you said capcom isnt popular on ps3 crowd , but if it was going timed exclusive it would be stupid???
capcom is popular on ps3 .they have there own section on psn store ...

first of all it wasn't exclusive to 360. sorry but it's coming out the same time on all consoles

Bordel_19006191d ago

Did you even read the article?

"Xbox 360 owners may be getting a slight advantage with the highly anticipated Capcom sequel. "

I think that Capcom would anger even more PS3 fans if they made the X360 version a timed exclusive, if you've been alive the last 2 years you'd know that PS3 fans haven't exactly been happy with Capcom.

mastiffchild6191d ago

Yes it is according to Capcom in the first interview for LP2 on PS3 wiuth Jeff R the other day-simultaneous release and a promise that the PS version would, this time, be the equal of the 360.

I don't see why Capcom would catagorically state this then annoy folk by changing less than a week later so I can only assume that there's a mix up as the fella was really affirmative over the subject.
