How can we tell what is a quality review and what isn't anymore? Even if there is no bias in a review, there's the issue that people will see bias wherever they want to see it if it doesn't fit their preconception of how good or bad a game is.

Will reviews be used from now on to support one bias over another? Should we not include every single random blog in these review summaries or are the major gaming news sites also biased?

I guess we'll never really know.

Ouch indeed. First a 7.5, then 5 then a 2. Prototype is not heading in a good direction. Maybe they should have come out before Infamous after all. It is a pretty hard act to follow.

i just picked it up about 2hours ago. the game is pretty cool, but the controls absolutely suck. i give it a 7.5/10 and i will not compare it too infamous. i am enjoying it. its very fun to rip people in half and just destroy everything. but the controls suck, the story so far has gone every which way, dont know what the heck is going on. but it is FUN. not great but pretty good. definitely a rent for every hardcore gamer.

does it really matter? If anything it shows that not everybody loves this game.

the majority of people that are botherd by the scores are 360 owners because the were expecting it to score higher than inFamous even tho prototype is multiplat and not a 360 exclusive oh well i think i'll rent prototype and buy inFamous

Looks like Sony did the right thing when they decided to bump up the release date of Infamous – I'm sure the scores would be different if the reviewers hadn't played it first.

My question is who really goes by reviews anymore? Thats like going by your best friends opinion. Its an opinion.

Go by what you've learned and researched about the game. I did and I made a wise purchase because of it.

As usual reviews are useless , especially when results are so disparate and different for the same game . The only ones that cares much about it are folks deeply involved in a war against the ps3 , the wii or the 360 ...

that I agree that review score is pretty such useless when you look at a combined average of all sites. Few problems with sites like Meta and Gamerankings:

1) The site dictates which review sites are included, not us gamers
2) Criteria for grading a game varied a great deal from site to site
3) blogs being used as a review source
4) Different gaming tastes. I'll trust an RPG review from RPGFans.com than a site like FPSFans.com.
5) Some obviously biased site

But instead of saying review score is irrelevant, it's much more important to READ THE REVIEW and over time you'll see some reviewer have similar taste for gaming as you, and their score will more likely reflect how you perceive the game.

With that said, I'm going to have to put it on record that MetaCritic is just fanboys' flamebait tool. Nothing more.

Theres still no gametrailers review or gamespot review. Activison is probably trying to toss some money at gamespot to hold there review off for a few more days.Then they can get a little more sales for this piece of sh!t. I have a feeling gametrailers is going to rip this game apart.

If infamous came out after this game. Oh well, infamous mops the floor with this turd. Why do people have to keep saying this is on the PS3 as well? Its pretty obvious, since it always has been. People don't hate it because its nothing compared to infamous. They just hate how crappy this dumpster turned out to be. After all the delays and big promises on how this game was supposed to be amazing. Clearly its not.

To the guy that said this reminds him of the comparison of Gears2 & Resistance2, what the hell are you talking about. One was 3rd person and the other is 1st person. Infamous and Prototype are both 3rd person and of the same nature somewhat. You both have superpowers for one and just well, blow sh@t up! Infamous rocks and Prototype failed. From graphics to gameplay, theres absolutely no comparison. No wonder theres no demo and they didnt want ign to review it till it was released. They didnt have much confidence in the game. Infamous on the other hand got a killer review over a week before it was released! You can tell nowadays when a games gonna be good or bad.

The reviews so far are like a damn see saw. I guess you either hate or love.

gonna wait now and see some more reviews (especially gametrailers cus i find their reviews to be the most informative) but it's looking like on friday when i have the day off work i may download FFVII rather than buy this. Either way, should be a good day off :D

Strange. PS3 owners that have both seem to enjoy Prototype more and say it owns other sandboxgames like inFamous. Check out the other reviews and their comments on N4G.

but prototype is bad ass.. i haven't noticed a huge issue with the controls other than a lack of free aim
I'm about 12 hrs into it and I'm really taking my time to unlock all the abilities

I'd say, if you're not going to focus on a great story then the gameplay better be awesome. Some may find this title to be fun, but it's not worth the $60 in my opinion. This title is like watching a stupid summer popcorn movie like transformers. You really don't care about the story or the side characters...you just want to see sh*t blow up. They should have kept the co-op or any kind of MP, it would have seriously helped the game in my opinion.

Infamous is more elegant and refined in design, with more of a focus on ranged combat, while Prototype is – truth be told - more frenetic and fun. Prototype is more of a spectacle and puts more power and choice in the hands of the player.

I'll be getting this. Sometimes games get very good and very bad scores. Being an optimist I think i'll enjoy this game. Just like inFamous and Red Faction.

i bought it...and its fun as hell so far only 2 hours in.

The only reason I didn't get infamous is that I like the blood and guts of Prototype. I am still thinking of picking up infamous.

I have shown the game to 8 of my mates and they all went crazy for it.

listen to what I am saying, the game just came out and we have yet to see tons of reviews but the ones we have now are very mixed and the 7.5 out of 10 from ign doesnt help either. In the end it will be rated lower than infamous on metacritic and you know it.

oh and your excuse for it being rated higher on the ps3 is very stupid. Its a 82 on xbox 360 so I take it since xbox 360 reviewers have higher game standards they review it lower? come on now.

Another hit for Prototype unfortunately. X-play gave it a 4/5, one star lower then Infamous and Zero Punctuation Yathzee said he enjoyed it. And he doesn't like most games. He barely ragged on it at all.I don't have anything personal against Prototype but it is looking that although Prototype isn't a bad game it looks like it is not a very good game either. It's getting some serious negative vibes from everyone. I mean the lowest score Infamous has gotten up to now is a 7. Prototype is already getting 5/10 and 2/5 and claims that it is tedious and badly controlled.It is looking bad for Prototype if it continues down this path.

After reading various reviews of this game, i've came to a (personal) conclusion: It may be lacking in gfx,story and controls, but compensates with a deep leveling and combo system + plenty of mindless fun.

Ok, this is just a theory but it could perhaps explain the inconsistent scores for prototype. Maybe reviewers from this site appreciates a good plot with clever storytelling and immersive atmosphere opposed to pure and simple fun derived from insane combo-chaining? Reviewers preferring prototype gfx might be a fan of gore and bloody animations, and hence downplay the low quality textures?

At the end of the day, prototype is definitely not a flop and is a welcome addition to both systems. For me however, prototype is not my cup of tea and i'll stick with inFamous.

The worst people on here are the people that call others fanboys, and then say "Ya infamous/prototype sucks" when they have OBVIOUSLY never played it. Don't knock it till you try it.

Oh yeah and the "OMG the grafficks suck HURR" sh*t needs to stop too. Good graphics does not a good game make.
