InFamous better watch out for the new kid in town! He is a little pudgy, walks with a limp and stutters... but he's a baaaad mofo.

It's really hard to take the reviews of these small sites seriously. They either need to give a game a really low or high score to attract hits to their site. If this site gave Prototype an 8 nobody would read the review and it would quickly disappear from N4G. The 2/5 guarantees that we will read and debate it endlessly.

It looks like this game will finish in the high 7 to low 8 range. A must buy for fans of sandbox super-hero games, it's probably a rental for everyone else.

Strange, this review seems to be way off from the 8's and 9's the game has been getting the last few days. Even Eurogamer, which is a harsh reviewer gave Prototype a 7 out of 10, the same as inFamous as I remember.

Wait a sec, a reviewer that gives Wolverine 3 stars and this one 2 is way off anyway. Next!

I played the Infamous Demo and its nothing special, graphics and gameplay are average at the best, i can guarantee if Infamous was a multi plat game and Prototype was a Ps3 exclusive Sony Fanboys would be all over it and bashing Infamous as average, so predictable.

prototype has the better story, about 100times more possibilities, better engine. put it simple its the better game by far.

I'm still buying it though, love these kinds of badass games.

Prototype has 13 reviews so far and has a 8.2 average. Its obvious its a Great game and for this review to give it a 4/10 is obviously out of place and actually hurts the average. I think this reviewer has something against the game.

Guess it's up to me to decide. Review scores are everywhere. 2 here, 7.5 there 9.2 somewhere else. Damn.

@TheRealSpy02 - Ah, I see. You bought into the hype. No, it'll be several generations yet before we get to real-time photorealistic graphics on a widely-available consumer-class platform. Sorry.

There has indeed been a "leap forward in graphics from the last generation", but no, we can't give you something indistinguishable from a live-action film. As a rough rule of thumb, the next generation's standard graphics look about like the last generations pre-rendered cutscenes.

I note that you didn't actually name an open-world sandbox game that met your criteria. That's because they don't exist. Consoles and even PCs have finite resources, and tradeoffs must happen. You want a big world, with lots of things happening, and no loading screens? Okay... but the graphics have to be simplified some to fit in the resources available.

Look up Sturgeon's Law sometime - "90% of everything is crap." I wouldn't say originality has left gaming by any means. There are games with genuinely new features. LittleBigPlanet, for example - user-created levels themselves aren't new, but the ease with which you can make levels really is a game-changer, no pun intended. (My 9-year-old son has made LBP levels - not exactly high-quality levels, sure, but the fact that it's possible at all is impressive.)

As to inFamous - I'll even agree with you in a limited way. No single part of inFamous is, in itself, original. But that's as far as I go.

Everything that it does, it does well. Movement is fluid and logical. All the powers are available at all times due to a well-thought-out control scheme. Combat works for me - you're powerful enough to deal out serious damage, but mortal enough that you have to strategize. There's a good variety of missions - it doesn't avoid repetition completely, but you do end up exercising all your different capabilities. The weapons do map pretty well to other shooters... but that's because they work for that genre. The graphics don't stand out as amazing - but seriously, I don't see them detracting from the experience. I'm just not seeing 'horrible'. (I've been playing games since Pong so maybe I'm easy to please.) Story - not Shakespeare, but as a comic-book-style story, nowhere near as bad as you're saying, at least IMHO. Forcing the player to choose either to play carefully and minimize collateral damage, or else go nuts but forego certain upgrades - sure, Bioshock is just one recent example of that.

No single part of inFamous is original - but it all fits together very well. I'm still enjoying it. Just wish I had more time to play it. Style and polish counts for a lot, at least in my book.

As to Prototype - not sure, haven't played it, can't get a demo yet. The graphics I've seen have looked more limited than inFamous, but I haven't seen a good high-rez clip so it's hard to tell. Movement looks faster but less precise. It appears to be aiming at a different experience than inFamous - more adrenaline, less cerebrum. (Very rough analogy - 'Batman Begins' vs. 'Iron Man'. Both good movies, but very different tones and objectives.)

This review is a complete joke. I'm currently playing this on the 360 and Infamous on the PS3 (of course). While I think Infamous may be a slightly better game, Prototype deserves no less than a 4/5 score. I wouldn't put much trust into review scores, especially when they are all over the place. Now if you see a game like Damnation get low scores across the board, its usually pretty safe to say that the game will suck. Prototype however does not belong in that category. At the very least it should be at the top of your rental queue.

From my experience, any game that gets reviews that range from extremely high to extremely low are usually bad games. No game ever got 9s then 4s and 3s ever end up being good games.Infamous at least stayed within a certain parameter ranging from 7s to 10s. Anyway we should wait until more reviewers review it. Still waiting on X-play, Gamespot and Gameinformer to review it. If anyone will give it a low score Gamespot will.

PROTOTYPE really is starting to throw out some inconsistant review scores. When the positive ones began to emerge I considered giving it a spin. Now though... may have to wait for it to drop in price (or a demo comes along)
