Wow that was totally unexpected! Might rent it first and see how it fairs. And i just ended infamous as a good guy, and i most say that the story was way better then i expected. the ending is crazy.

Looks like inFamous is a better game after all.

I've been waiting for IGN's take on this game, an 8+ would've been enough to pick this bad boy up but a little doubt is starting to creep into my mind after a score like this. I'll wait on a few more scores but it's not looking good, especially after that underwhelming video I saw the other day.

what sucks for prototype is that infamous came out and got great reviews and now that prototype (which is also an open world game) comes out it is being compared to the quality of infamous...that is probably the major reason that reviews are not as high as expected for prototype...it may not be a bad game but it just doesnt achieve the quality of infamous according to reviews

It seems like a rent. But this was expected. Guns, Tanks, Missile Launchers. What exactly is this game trying to be? If you have super powers you don't need any of that.

This is the first review I've read that lines up with my view of the game. I tend to disagree with a lot of IGN's reviews (especially their Riddick one) but this is spot on in terms of my opinion of the game so far.

Plus their Infamous coverage constantly read like a love letter.

Proto is mindblowing - got it today and the 90's are absolutely spot on

so did the majority who bought it. That game will flop without another halo beta.

I think we should all calm down. first of all 7.5 is not that bad a score. Second of all it also got some 9s as well from other reviewers. Infamous was a great game but it got a few 7s as well. We should wait to see what other sites and reviews say before we send it to the rental counter or the bargain bin. Now that it is been proven that Infamous is a great game we should give Prototype it's fair shot.But my personal opinion is that I really don't care about Prototype. I have many other games I am rooting for, like Uncharted 2, Batman Arkum Asylum and Bayonetta, to be AAA titles to care about one game made by people who have made some unforgettable games up to this point

IGN gave the same score to Assanssin's Creed, when I first saw it I was pissed off because I was really looking foward to that game but after playing it I realized the IGN score was right

I predicted ages ago that Prototype was going to get a really bad review from IGN. We KNOW the agenda behind tarnishing this particuliar game. Check the Infamous review if yhou don't believe me. The guy was a Infamous Fanboy from the beginning. They were politics to kill this particuliar games Meta was eveident with really early previews. The power of the PS3 agenda strikes hard. I won't even read the review yet..I'm buying the game this week and judge for myself. Can't wait..

I am sad that this game is just average, I was thinking it would rock&roll.

lets be carefull with Assassin's Creed 2 because it is also a game made by Activision and might fail on the same aspects where Prototype did.

I was expecting to play another great open world action game that score 10 such Infamous on this year ....

OMG now i started doubting this game i think Infamous is the right game for me i was like Prototype is better now i think its pretty clear that it is not that good .

Got the game, i'm playing right now. I don't know, i really love inFamous and after 4 hours of play in Prototype, i found some point on each one i love and hate.

InFamous:
Good: Control of your character, story and the feeling of the town, the good and bad karma.

Bad: Popup and Cole/people face.

Prototype:
Good: the way the Story(Web) are told. Almost no popup. The feeling that your not human anymore.

Bad: Building Texture, repetitive mission with medal.

Its my opinion only.

Playing Bioshock on PC. May be its little late or shooting too much zombies lately (RE5, L4D, Killing Floor), I am not impressed so far. Only story part is little interesting.

9 total reviews on metacritc and IGN's the only media to give the game less than a 9. I think I'll wait for a few more reviews.

I'm surprised no one's complaining that this scored lower than Ghostbusters like when the Infamous Eurogamer review came out.

you all need to step back and take stock. Its got some good reviews. I like IGN and from actually reading their review I don't believe they just played it a couple of hours and knocked up some half ass review.

I see already people are fighting over which one is better Infamous or Prototype. Funny but how can you form an opinion until you played both. People who are forming opinions off of reviews are pretty stupid. Do some of you people really let strangers make choices for you. Really just weird.

I love Infamous. got the demo, was happy I pre-ordered it. Got the game, love it to bits.

Now I really hope Prototype follows suit. I will be a happy gamer.

Actually I hope Ghostbusters gets good reviews but still won't be buying it. Or Prototype. Saving money for Batman AA, Uncharted 2, Bayonetta, Tekken 6 and Ratchet and Clank CIT. Already have Infamous. Too many games to consider to take a chance that Prototype might be good.Even if it turns out to be better than Infamous won't be buying both.

For all of you claiming that inFamous > Prototype I wouldn't count your eggs before they hatch.

Right now Prototype is sitting at a 93 and inFamous is sitting at an 85. Obviously, there are many more reviews yet to come for Prototype, but I am just saying that don't jump to conclusions, because you all might end up looking kind of foolish. We all know that inFamous is a great game. All I am saying is let's wait until more reviews come in before crowning inFamous the sanbox king.

Even Ghost of Sparta, who as we all know is a strong supporter of the PS3, said that Prototype is the better game.
"I was one of the people who constantly bashed Prototype for being a mutliplatform sandbox-style video game in my anticipation for Infamous but I've gotta say, this review is so full of sh*t I don't even know where to begin. Before I start, I'd like to make clear that I am among the biggest PS3 fanboys on N4G and I own Infamous, even got the platinum trophy.

1. Prototype, on PS3 at least, I can't speak for the version this guy reviewed which was the 360 version, performs flawlessly with nearly zero frame rate dips and AA whereas Infamous had it's fair share of slowdown and constant jaggies. 5.5 for graphics? Please kill yourself. The character models AND environments in Prototype all look better than those in Infamous. This is one of those rare cases where a multiplatform game looks better than a PS3 exclusive.

2. Polish. I must have died about 10+ times in Infamous due to glitches and bugs and freezing. It's obvious that Sucker Punch got tired of working on the game and decided to release it earlier than originally scheduled without making sure that the game was truly ready to go. Prototype's delay was a good thing as now I see that the game couldn't be anymore polished than it already is. Everything from the in-game menus to the way everything runs is flawless.

3. The only way you could possibly finish Prototype in 20 or less hours would be to rush through the game and skip the hidden goodies, which you get trophies for by collecting them all. There is so much to do in Prototype and the mission structure isn't as repetitive as Infamous.

4. Cole can climb buildings? Alex Mercer can run up and down buildings. Cole can blow up cars? Alex Mercer can blow them up OR toss them at people / tanks / choppers with his bare hands. In a showdown, Alex Mercer would DESTROY Cole McGrath.

If you and I share similar tastes in gaming, ignore this dumb f*cking review and pick up Prototype. Cannot believe the ridiculousness of this utterly misleading garbage."

So, at the very least it sounds like they are both excellent open world games. PS3 fanboys slagging off Prototype just because it isn't on the PS3 is the only thing that doesn't sit well with me.

This game is getting higher marks elsewhere, but even for a pretty negative review, 7.5 ain't bad.

I do have some serious problems with a 5.5 in GFX. Thats pretty low. The game is not a technical showpiece, but it shouldn't be lower than a 7.5-8. But that is this guy's opinion.

87 so far on meta for the 360 version...93 PS3. Ill just average that to a 90 since the games are identical.

I have both infamous & prototype for the PS3. I can tell you their is NO screen tearing. NO framerate dips. NO blandness in the environments...it's a city with parks, tall TALL buildings...and the graphics are far above average. Especially for it's genre.

I can't really say which game is better - Infamous feels like a comic book...Prototype feels like a summer blockbuster! Both are cool beans!!!

Their is some pop-up in Prototype...but only far far away, it isn't a game breaker at all.

The important thing to note is that Prototype has action of the likes you've never played...it's insane! I honestly have no idea how it's possible to have so much chaos and no slowdown!

Get this game...it's awesome!

Because i rented it, and it's about an 8.5, you need to at least rent it, it's worth at least that much, i'm actually debating buying it. i only buy the best games though, so we'll see how i feel in a week.

I am not interested in Infamous OR prototype. The story and gameplay in sandbox games just ISNT appealing to me. Granted, Infamous has COOL looking attacks, i feel so unsatisfied wandering a ambiguous city doing those same attacks. When i was younger sandbox games were more appealing, maybe some of you can relate.

ANYWAYS the real reason i posted, is because you all have missed a valuable lesson. NEVER LOOK AT IGN AMERICA, always look at IGN Australia. Time and time again, IGN America gives terrible reviews. They will give 'the SHREK game' a 7 and then perfectly decent games a 4 or 5. IGN Australia on the otherhand tends to give very realistic and consistent reviews.

IGN Australia gave Prototype a 8.5, and based on their record of good reviews, i am inclined to believe them.

Oh well, forget what i said yesterday then!!! ;-D

I only saw footage of inFamous but played Prototype..the last one is crap.Even 7.5 is too much,it's overhyped and I have no idea why.Must be the lamers that get excited they can chop PS2 detailed characters in half on a system that's supposed to boast 720p or 1080p quality.

Truth is Infamous is an incredible polished game worth purchase while Prototype looks unfinished and generic, a good rent.

no demo means no first day buy for me. and this is why. im not going to shell out sixty bucks for an average game!

inFamous is one hell of a great game. Completed it on Hard, Hero and now Im playing it on Hard, Infamous. The game is just brilliant and has so much variety (well maybe except for the side missions, but that is understandable) and the fun factor is off the hook. I rate it right up there with MGS4, Uncharted, KZ2, LBP and so on. For now, Infamous is the one and only sandbox game this gen. Better than GTA4, Far Cry 2, AC, you name it.

I loved Infamous, pure awesomeness and well deserving of all the high scores. But a 7.5 for Prototype is more than enough for me to buy it, it looks like a lot of fun to me. Gonna pick it up today methinks.

but damn ign just destroyed prototype in every single area. Gamepro hit a nice review, so for me i have to play it and decide for myself. The reasons he gave sounds like he was terribly dissapointed. Maybe he was expecting inFamous quality, or maybe he found the game plain ugly. Amazon reviews are pretty good, little fanboys and generally trustworthy. The lack of moral choices does point to a shallow game.

Well, at least my impression was about the same, i dno haven't played so i won't totally agree or disagree, but the impression i got
(and this is what trailers and stuff is meant to do = give you a good / bad impression of the game)

was that it was too focused on the fact tht you can go all balls out havoc, without thinking too much. And that kinda put me off

Also whenever i saw a screenshot, 2 out of 3 were in a city crossing....i mean, it looked very repetative o.o...ah well, rental =)

This is about what I expected from this game. As I said before, it's a solid rental.

I had never planned on buying this, because it just looks like the Hulk game, but I did expect a higher score. I know it's on the same engine, but it looks like the same game. I didn't buy the Hulk either, for the fact that you just run around phucking sh!t up. That can be fun for a while, but it gets old quick. It's like playing GTA with the Liberty City Survivor mode on. It also looks like you're actually too powerful, like you always have cheat codes. Of course, I'm only assuming, because I haven't played it myself, but that's what it looks like to me. So, since I was already on the fence, and won't have a demo for a while, these reviews ain't helping. inFamous ain't helping sway my decision either. That game is great.

I would definately pass on this one, the graphics alone especially on the buildings look like PS2 graphics. Not to mention all the buildings look the same, its pretty bad. Gameplay gets very repetetive as well. I was gonna get it today, changed my mind and went with Bionic Commando after doing some research. Infamous rocks by the way, no comparison. Just finished that one and loved every raging minute of it! Go with Infamous if your on the fence about it. I may grab Prototype if it drops down to $20 and theres no titles to play at that moment. Other than that i would not waste your hard earned money on this game. Bionic Commando looks far better and much more enjoyable!

and then bought infamous. Prototype isn't necessarily a bad game but it is just plain ole ugly and flat in most places. The action in prototype and gameplay is pretty good although a little too much like the Hulk but overall not that bad. Infamous on the other hand is leaps and bounds ahead in the graphics dept. as well as gameplay. The missions in prototype aren't bad although a little repetitive. I am not saying that infamous isn't repetitive with it's missions either but the side quests are very welcomed. That and the whole good/evil spin in infamous makes for a fun ride depending on how you want to play out the game. I suggest renting Prototype at a minimum before purchase, especially if you have a PS3 due to infamous.

Good lord, there are too many crazy gamers out there. I've owned every system out there. I have a 360 now, I want another PS3 eventually. I haven't played infamous, so I can't compare the two, but Prototype is a hell of a lot of fun. I'm enjoying it...seriously, if graphics are that big a deal to you, then I feel sorry for you. The story line is getting interesting(I'm about 5 hours in now, I guess). I'm gonna have fun seeing how this plays out. Don't get me wrong, I bet infamous is good, but don't overlook this game because of one rating--glad I didn't. Especially you PS3 owners that have the advantage of playing both.
