Golden Sun DS and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story might be the games getting all the attention here at E3 '09 where Nintendo DS RPGs are concerned, but the Big N also had a more low-key surprise announcement for the same system and genre here at the show -- Glory of Heracles. This 3D role-player, developed by Paon Corporation and scheduled to be published by Nintendo next year in the States, starts off simply enough. But then it offers up some unique ideas.

Glory of Heracles is a turn-based RPG that dives into Greek mythology. You play as a nameless immortal character, even though the nymphs believe that you’re the great Heracles, son of Zeus. Joined by other immortal characters such as the tomboy Leucos, the pretty boy Axios, the arrogant Heracles, and the child mage Eris.

A man wakes up on the shore, his memory gone. Later, he finds out that, not only is he immortal, he may also be the legendary hero, Heracles. To ascertain whether he truly is the Heracles of legend or if the nymphs who gave him this information were playing a devious trick, the supposed Heracles heads to Mount Olympus, home of the gods. This is the premise of the DS game The Glory of Heracles, the first game in its series to see an international release.
