Sony by far there games were outstanding, new ips love it plus the motion controller was brilliant.

Natal is something microsoft is taking seriously and very innovative. Yet i'm slightly more impressed with Sony's motion controller because it has better precision than wii motion plus and natal. The article needs to make a correction though because Metal Gear Solid was never a Playstation exclusive franchise. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance came out on xbox. Author should do a little more fact checking before he writes as article.

Microsoft won the show no doubt about it, what Natal has brought to the table is the showstopper for me, Sony came in a close second, Ninty well who cares.

I agree with most of this. However, I don't consider a lack of new exclusive IPs a very big failure for MS, although it'd definitely be nice. Also, Instant On 1080p Netflix should have been under failure since that won't be possible for a while. Does MS think we're stupid?

I do agree that gamers were the real winners. Even if you only have one console, you got some great stuff out of it.

Nothing Original - Microsoft is infamous for stealing ideas and games. Well... maybe not stealing... but buying. Microsoft has proven time and time again that everyone has a price. Whether it's Square Enix with Final Fantasy or Konami with Metal Gear Solid, Microsoft finds a way for other companies' exclusives to become multi-plat. Every year at E3, one of Microsoft biggest announcements is that they stole away yet another exclusive from Sony. This year was no different. Even Microsoft's Project Natal has elements eerily similar to early games released for the Playstation Eye. It would be great to see Microsoft develop blockbuster franchises of their own. Other than Halo.

MS press conference was all flash and no substance: a metal gear spin off not developed by Kojima and without Solid Snake? two Halo spin offs? L4D DLC sold as L4D2? milo? spielberg on stage? two COD MP maps as a timed exclusive? where are games to compete with PS3 extensive line up?

I say it was a tie this year, with sony maybe inching ahead by a little cause they announced more new Ips and exclusives. E3 is all about the games after all isnt it?

I own a PS3, so that tells you where most of my opinion already is.

Liked what I saw of Natal as a control interface for the 360, very Minority Report, but the games were much of the same only better looking. So no sale.

Writing in a vote because Nintendo earned one. They brought no innovations, but the refinements in Mario Galaxy and Red Steel, as well as Metroid from Team Ninja, reawakened my want for a Wii.

Both Microsofts and Sonys were awesome and I give them both an A.

On Ps3 : Uncharted 2(GREAT Game with Stunning graphics , better graphics on Ps3 so far...) , MAG (sorry but this game is terrible) , Last Guardian (ICO and Sotc were the best games ever created...Can this go into those games level ? LETS HOPE SOOOO!!!!) , God of War 3(More Gore is impossible...Graphics are not very Good like uncharted but the game is badass and a MUST HAVE!!!) and Gran Turismo 5 , Remeber when i said i will love to tell my friends to see this masterpiece ? i was talking about PSP GT...But this one will be great to!! It's all about preference. Wii owners will have great games to play, PS3 owners will have great games to play, 360 owners will have great games PS3 owners will be playing too :) And Twitter. Haha. I'm sorry, but that was a more "meh" announcement than the PSP Go. Regardless, if you like games you're good to go this gen.

Sony's E3 press conference had more games that were more interesting to me than MS's conference did. They even showed some new gameplay footage of games that didn't get a chance to be on stage (WKC, R&CF:ACIT, Fat Princess etc...). I also love new IPs, so that was good at Sony's conference. But I will say that MS's conference was presented much much better than sony's IMO. They cut right to the chase for everything, I never felt my time was waisted and was always paying attention. They did a great job on that. Also I think Splinter Cell and Alan Wake were the highlights and they looked fantastic. Awesome. I will also say that the lack of announcements for PSN (on PS3) was dissappointing, no new features were announced or hinted at.

Also something very important must be considered. When comparing the conferences people always think PS3 vs 360. Thats simply not fair. The PSP had an incredible showing and the lineup is amazing to be frank. Seriously not everything is PS3 vs 360 people.

MGS has been on xbox before, so nothing amazing from M$ Hideo isn't even f*$king with MGS Rising. IMO thats not good. The story line is one the things that makes MGS franchise so good. And Project Natal yeah right.

Just the fact that Xbox gamers didn't come away disappointed was a huge win for Xbox gamers and potential customers worldwide.

The fact that the cam tech was far better that the usual cam tech completely stole the show. Lionhead's Milo demo almost made the rest of E3's display of Trailers and gameplay demo kinda boring.

Nintendo's Metroid was a cool suprise, but I almost fell asleep twice. Does it really matter? Who's not going to buy wii Sports Resort?

Sony may have excited it's core base, but I'm honestly suprised I walked away from another Sony conference without one single temptation to buy the system any time soon. God of War is always cool, but probably won't surface till next year. MAG ended up looking like Battlefield Company with more players. Uncharted 2 looked like a really pretty sequel with similiar game traits of the first one.

Once again, Sony kept their core base. The price drop will really boost it's sales. But, I didn't see the silver bullet that would have generated a mass console Exodus.

Microsft's improvements to Netflix and the upscale of the movie quality were actually really big announcement for Live owners.

But, when it comes to the huge event games, it just seems like Microsoft get's it.

Halo:ODST looks like it's going to smash records. The announcement and inclusion of 'Reach' was a welcome suprise.

'Rising' was a huge draft pick-up and FF13 still the undisputed E3 announcement suprise just looks better and better every time it's shown.

Call of Duty: MW2 is the other ridiculously huge elephant in the room. I love the chance to get to play a new Left 4 dead entry. i could care less if ANY PC gamer wants to plays it. Crackdown 2 was a great announement for it's fans as well.

E3 09 was a win for console owners period. As an Xbox owner, Microsoft gave us the show we wanted. But it's not hard to see that the other big two have good games to look forward to as well.

Microsoft showed multiplatform games, and all of its "exclusives" are eventually hitting the PC. Natal not only had no games shown on display, but it's not even backwards compatible. Natal the standard? LOL, maybe the apparatus that uses Natal in conjunction with something that's backwards compatible, i.e. the best of Natal and the best of Sony's motion controller, not what we just saw.

I have to say, both did ok, but neither blew me away. I did like the MS camera control idea. If it works as well as it seems, it would be pretty cool. Gamewise, from MS i wasnt super thrilled, but wasnt disapointed.

Sony had some good stuff but with so many leaks, none of it really blew me away.

I know its not actually the case, but for some reason I feel like we dont know anything more today than we did a week ago. So because of that i'd have to say it was just OK all around.

Why does MS like to boast that they are getting a Multi-Platform game? Sony on the other hand, boasted a strong first party exclusive line up. And when they claimed that they now have a complete system, they will never get God of War, or Metroid. There is still plenty of reasons to own other systems.

Id like to know how 1080p streaming is even possible. They touted this feature at the ms conference.

"no exception we are not ganna be out done by anybody." Meaning Sony wants competition.

I'm quite interested in Alan Wake and Halo ODST(or something like that). Microsoft kicked people who already bought the Live Vision Cam in the teeth. Natal is just going to make it absolute. Splinter Cell isn't better than metal gear to me so i don't really care about that one. Modern Warfare 2 is multplatform and so is Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Ps3 motion can be implemented in some game right now like Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion with just a patch release. I play my ps3 more so Sony gets the win from me.

Wow! the comments here make me want to give all the "fanboy" gamers here a serious gamers history lesson! here's a little intro of my personal "gaming" experience.
My mom babysat a rich family's spoiled brat in the early 1970's! He wanted the new sears "Magnavox Odyssey!"aka pong.His mom bought it for him and he left it at our house! he quickly got bored with it and me and my 2 other brothers became gamers for life ever since! The year was 1974! I was 8 or 9 years old at the time! 2 years into the Odyssey's life. Tv had only 13 channels! Everywhere! no space shuttle, or home pc,s, or wifi, or download speeds, or bluetooth, or pixel shading, or framerates, or.. well you get my meaning:)

WE have saved and bought just about every system since!.Plus games.

I own a "sony" PS3 and no xbox 360! why? Well at my age(I'm sounding like an old man!)comes experience and understanding of what will pretty much certainly take place with the things a person holds dear to their personal happiness, concerning hobbies etc.. Also wasting time and/or money makes me very frustrated. I didn't buy any "launch" systems, I've learned to wait a while after launch to make a more educated decision. So when it came to getting the next gen H.D console, the obvious choice to "ME" to get the full enjoyment of this generation of gaming bliss, was the PS3.and not saying the 360 is a waste! Dont misunderstand me-If the 360 came out in 1972 the general population of this planet would of swore it was from some super advanced extraterrestrial beings from alpha Centauri! It is an amazing piece of future tech that clearly cannot be denied!

But I of course waited to see what would take place concerning the xbox 360,mainly because yes, I wanted to play the awesome games available early in the consoles life, but the signs of trouble came really early if you really saw them! I couldn't waste my time with it because( this will sound arrogant) because I knew the first party games would dry up rather quickly! It has happened too many times in the past with consoles that try to get into the gaming universe without the "right" core vision! I.E.one cannot continue buying exclusive games of a rival instead of developing new ip's etc.. It shortens the life span greatly. Plus It was obvious because of the massive development costs of both consoles, they would have to be marketable longer than previous systems. (I won't go into a history lesson) but It was somewhat obvious to me what would eventually happen to the xbox-no games!
I reluctantly give the corporation called sony computer entertainment my hard earned Benjamin's only because they wont give the plastic box to me for free! I dont in the slightest way kiss sony's a**! I dont have stock in them!But to appease my lifelong hobby with the smallest amount of money and effort, and the most longevity, I chose their box with wires, and coolant, and microprocessors,etc.. in it! Personally I feel for me that Sony won because they have the games I want, but on a whole I think that both Sony, and Microsoft had great shows so we(the gamers) win, the fact that it's even debateable this year I think just proves that.

This E3 so far has been awesome, Kojima Castlevania(drool), Last Guardian,Uncharted 2:Among Thieves, Mass Effect 2, Assassins Creed 2, Gow Of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII, 2 new Metal Gears, Crackdown 2, White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain, 2 new Halos, Ratchet and Clank, Dragon Age Origins, Modern Warfare 2,Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, Demon Souls, Mag, Shadow Complex, Fat Princess, Gran Turismo PSP, Forza 3, and tons of other great looking games.

Fanboys can't admit it for some reason, but this E3 was great for all of us, hell I was actually pleased with a Big N announcement (Team Ninja Metroid)

Sometimes I really wish people would just shut up and play the damn games, because thats whats most important obviously.

as a gamer i had no interest in sony or ms' Motion control stuff. tbh though i thought sony's utilization of the technology was more pertinent to gaming and they get a point for not relying on over-excited families jumping around throwing imaginary paint on walls.

And feel free to disagree but the new Uncharted 2 gameplay trailer doesn't look right to me. Don't get me wrong the graphics are fantastic, but the animation seems a bit odd (don't know it could be intensional), its like watching the old Godzilla and King Kong movies that kinda animation, like they got the animation from clay models or something.
But that could have either been the video i saw or just a little buggy piece of demo, but all that a side looks like PS3 have a winner on their hands.

Having both consoles I think they both did well.

But if i didnt have a console and i had to choose one based on E3. id have to pick the ps3. they showed many high quality games.

And whilst natal looks great, you need buttons for some things and by time devs figure it out next gen will have arrived.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
