The PC Gaming Industry's Incredible Comeback?

Jon Peddie research has just capped off a five year study of the sales, profits and strength of the PC gaming hardware market. According to the research firm, which specializes in graphics and multimedia studies, the PC gaming industry is looking stronger than the console gaming industry, despite the current recession. Over at Macworld they've taken the study at face value, but some might find it a bit hard to take seriously.

Way to ruin one of the only decent articles on this site. No one needs your flamebait.

I don't think they took Digital Distributors like Steam, Impulse, or D2D into account. I would be very interested to know how well steam is doing. The only thing we have to work with from Steam is that EA started hailing the pc as the king after they saw their steam sales.

dont be a fool. you regard the graphic of your almighty 360 too high.
I can play most of the games on a rig I upgraded 2 years ago.

I guess you 360 guys are in denial that ps3 owners might also have a decent pc which can play games in order to defend yourselfs.

your comments are laughable.

HD console gaming is only borrowing HD PC gamers. The tech in the new cards coming out is so beyond what you guys are hyping. Lots of console developer may try their hand at PC gaming near the end of this gen just so they can get a hand up on what may be coming out.

I really hope the "new tech" goes into the next console and we just don't get gimped chips and bold claims.

I'm not going to run around in here pointing fingers and screaming "fanboys!!", but as a gamer who owns a 360, a PS3, and a gaming grade PC I have to say the PC has the best graphics out of all 3. A gaming grade PC can play games generally in higher resolution than most games on either console these days. Most games on the consoles play in 720p, which is far from bad, but considering that I can play EVERY game in 1080p on my PC AND have a constant 60FPS in every game, my PC edges out both consoles when it comes to graphics. Now, I admit to being far more of a console gamer, and I spend about a good 65-80% of my gaming time on my consoles, but it's nice having a computer that can play games like Bioshock in 1080p and run at a constant 60FPS. I love having the best of everything.

I'm not seeing all those PS3/PC owners anywhere... Shouldn't there be PC discussions about Alan Wake and Mass Effect going on?

Loving the exclusive disagrees.

unlike you guys who are at every article because you have nothing to discuss.

I'm thinking about StarCraft II and Diablo III. As far as I know, those gems are NOT on Xbox 360 or PS3.

And Sony fanboys need to stop trolling Blizzard forums and harassing Blizzard for PS3 ports of StarCraft and Diablo. Those games are fine on PC as they are; they are best played with a keyboard and a mouse -- on a PC. And it's not Blizzard's job to help sell keyboards and mice on the PS3.

If you want to play StarCraft and Diablo, get a PC -- and stop whining about the PS3. That's just how it is.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing32d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9232d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit32d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing32d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9232d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
