GamingBolt: Alan Wake Preview

'Terrifying' enemies will be on-hand to liven up the combat side of things, while there will be far more characters to interact with and learn from than most action titles. Indeed, these hints of RPG aren't the only elements of the genre represented. There will also be puzzles to overcome, multiple outcomes and various relationships to forge and break. Alan Wake must use a variety of weapons to survive, including his most powerful ally against the creatures of darkness - light itself."

Something we already knew about, but it's good to read it once again.

They want to create a cinematic experience.. I like that kind of games, but i think alan wake will be not better as Uncharted 2..

One more day to wait and somebody digs up info months and even years old, throws it together and calls it a preview?

I think the point of the preview was

"Let's hope that time and the increasing quality of the competition doesn't serve to diminish the potency of Alan Wake's gameplay-mix"

Never hear this when certain other games take years to develop.

Isn't this more or less a Playstation blog?

This game intrigues me. Hopefully the games story will be as mysterious as its unveiling. People are inevitably compare this to Heavy Rain, or as I like to call it a series of cutscenes full of quicktime events adventure! The people in Alan Wake dont look like that lady from Ripleys Believe it or Not that can pop her eyes out. But we as gamers dont know the gameplay of Alan Wake, so it could be the same damn thing. Hopfully this game and Heavy Rain become more or less adventure games rather than movies in which I have to randomly press buttons instead of being able to eat popcorn.

wake than heavy rain. will wake will end up slapping heavy rain? i am ready for both games but i am leaning towards wake.

slpknt6sic66179d ago (Edited 6179d ago )

they both sound really good i have a feeling wake will be epic. but i also think the 360 version will be a huge downgrade from the pc version.

i just hope heavy rains is more than QTE, if not then story better be amazing. i think it will be epic as well but only time will tell.

edit: i don't own a great pc so I'm hoping the 360 version is sick as hell:)

ChampIDC6179d ago

I'd say we still don't know enough about Alan Wake to make that decision yet.

tiamat56179d ago

This sound like Alone in the Dark to me.Also games that take forever to develop usually don't do very well.Look at Duke Nukem Forever. I mean seriously does anyone even care anymore about this game?

dantheman15156179d ago

Microsoft doesnt need another Too Human fiasco. I mean it wasnt a terrible game, but it was doomed from the start. PS3 fanboys had a field day with that game. IMO it wasnt as bad as Haze though, it was the only game I have ever regreted playing at a friends house. I ignored that friend for a week because of the pain and boredom he put me through, while for 4 hours trying to convert me to the Playstation.

"Also games that take forever to develop usually don't do very well."

That's some very odd logic considering most games take time to develop. I want developers to start taking there time making games like they did with Oblivion, and even Half Life 2 which were great games.

"I mean seriously does anyone even care anymore about this game?"

I certainly do care about this one as I'm sure many care about Duke. What I don't get is why you don't question games like GT5 or even GOW3 which we all know has been in development for a while. Heck KZ2 took forever and Trico might be years off but yet and still it's a problem only when a 360 game takes a bit. This is why I like how MS has stopped hyping games years in advance.

"Microsoft doesn't need another Too Human fiasco."

Speaking of Too Human I'm willing to bet that they announce the second part of the trilogy tomorrow and release it's numbers for the 1st time. If the too Human team can create or has created there very own engine for part 2 I do think the game will look better and possibly redeem itself it they fix the controls.

ChampIDC6179d ago

You're totally right. Too Human has a lot of untapped potential. We all know Silicon Knights can make good games, as they made Eternal Darkness. Let's hope they've learned their lesson and make a strong comeback in the second game.

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8745d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg158d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto745d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia746d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger745d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie745d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos745d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie745d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh745d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
