360 had an almost simultaneous worldwide launch, Sony delayed.....and released with plenty of units unlike M$ and Wii....Sony had ample consoles available....Good job Sony. -I would be more concerned how they do over the next 6 months....if it turns out like Japan and the U.S. because so far the Wii has proven to have the higher demand.

Yes the 360 is not accepted in Japan, Japanese favor their homegrown videogame consoles, nothing new there, as for the U.S. the video fails to mention 360 has outsold it head to head in the U.S. since the PS3 was released(competed) with the 360 up until now. -Yet the same arguement about Japan isn't true since American's brought more PS1 and PS2's than any country including Japan, where as the original xbox failed there miserably.

The vid say's that people are saying it doesn't have games, which is somewhat misleading because I think the criticism is talking about launch games and games with a "near future" release date, then it goes on to show MGS4, Lair, Little Big Planet, etc. which really aren't out yet or coming in the next couple of months as far as I know, especially the big (system seller MGS4) game which could likely end up early 2008 and possibly on 360but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part, (either way I will play it) then it goes on to list some "exclusives" that are clearly not exclusive like Merc 2, DMC4, Army of Two, Assassins Creed and I won't even mention that NG: Sigma, although looks great is basicly a remake, but at any rate I'm sure alot of PS3 only fans will like it, NG: Black was awesome.

Achievements are a nice added value to games, and credit card fraud??? Blu-ray over HD DVD, for movies looks like Blu-ray is definitely outselling and they should with all the PS3's out there, hell I'm surprise its not more...but of course those who brough HD DVD players brought them specifically for movies, as for videogames, well Blu-ray isn't a neccessity, sure I never argue with more space, thats great, but so far DVD's look like they are more than holding their own for games....hell I think "great games" are already taking 2-3+ years in development, so if these blu-ray games are going to "expand" the content and length significantly then hell how long will it take a dev and which also makes the dev think about costs...I doubt blu-ray will show its "can't be done on DVD" potential this gen, or it will be very late in the ball game "IF" it does,= NOT a neccessity.

I agree no consumer should have to go through the hassle of having his product break withing an unreasonable timeframe(warranty) but it happens, all a company can do its try to fix it and satisfy the customer, I think thats what M$ has tried to do by fixing its manufacturing problems mostly coming from launch 360's and by extending the warranty....however don't forget that Sony had problems with its PS2 drives and were sued, they fixed the problem and went on to be very successful, hmmmmm, maybe just maybe M$ can recover?

Even at that.. taken the massive fanboy sway of this video is it not the point that in the Xbox's second Generation its going toe to toe with Sony? How bout the fact that the PS2 has sold WELL over 100 million systems and the Xbox 1 may have gotten close to 30 million. Thats a massive gap, so to say that the PS3 outsold the 360 1.06 mil to 1.02 mil in the first 4 months... how is that a win for the Sony brand? Also keep in mind that it was impossible to find a 360 on the shelves during its first 4 months (MS's fault) but since January 1 I have been able to find PS3 systems.

I think the biggest story is the one most people are missing... the 360 is going toe to toe with Sony in its second gen. Something most experts would have laughed at back in 2001 when the xbox 1 launched.

To me that was a legitimate video and in no way did it downsize the competitors unlike the "how you killed your brand video" that praised nothing but the 360 and tried to downplay everything that the ps3 had to offer. Both systems have great potential and This video was level headed and on point. I didn't see any type of rabid fanboyism, and if you did, then its a crying shame.

But my question is how many PS3 fans are willing to buy a 360? I've noticed allot of 360 fans saying they would buy a PS3 for this reason or that reason. But how many PS3 fans are man enough to say why they hate the 360 or what will make them buy one.

The issue I see is that there is no real reason why you would not buy buy one. It has some of the best games in history coming out this year. Mass effect, Halo 3, Too Human, and Forsa are awesome games that it is almost a gaming sin to miss. I just want to know why there is so much hate over the 360.

really what is there to make it so great and superior to the xbox. I know launches can be rough but at least the xbox line up had some decent games. Ex call of duty 2 , kameo , pdz , condemned , quake 4 , pgr , there are a few others. The ps3 had resistance. Only decent game at launch not counting sport games. Ok so now virtual fighter and motor storm are out and there good games. But really its not to immpressive. Compared to the 360 games out now. FF13 is a probably ganna be a great rpg but what would u rather have blue dragon , lost oddysee , mass effect , fable 2 , eternal sonata, or just ff13 because thats the only decent rpg coming out for the ps3. Dont get me wrong heavenly sword , Lair , mgs4 , are all ganna prabobly be great games however i dont think it has a strong enough line up. Fanboys can justify that by giving me a list of 20 exclusive games but it just doesnt blow me away like some of the xbox games.

first off Xbox live don't cost 69 $ and almost all the games they showed are not even out yet lol. and there exclusive games list is a joke.

I bought an xbox because I enjoyed the titles released on it, I bought the gamecube because the titles released on it, I bought a ps2 and wasted the 200 bucks because I own a total of 5 games for it, none of which impressed me(this included the new FF's), while my cube and xbox have a nice collenction of over 20 each, some i still play today.

ps. for those that use vgcharts as a resource, they have 870k sold in pal territories, even though the current numbers released are pegged at ~600k, america has also been ~250k over the current ndp reports since those were released. It's no more accurate than nexgenwars.

i don't hate the 360.there's nothing wrong with the games that are on the system.

my problem is microsoft's cover up of the fact that the system is unreliable.it breaks faster than any system released since the start of gaming.there's no excuse for systems breaking that fast.

ps2 had problems mostly from people dropping it,smoking around it,standing it up(all systems have been horizontal),playing it on the carpet,and letting extreme amounts of dust get into the system.i had to deal with this every day as a game manager.they would say that their system doesn't work.that it didn't load.my employees would clean it and it would work flawlessly.we would pop open new games,put in old games.and it would work.all some were trying to do was get a new system under warrranty just because.not because it was broke.some even had rocks and ants in the system.

the second reason is the nickle and diming on everything.add-ons that cost more than they should.they are milking the hardcore dry of all their money saying it's about choice but knowing you are going to go out and buy it.and they are exspecting you to go out and buy the elite after already having a 360.they want to offer online play for a price when it was free for everybody.i can understand unifying the network,but pushing for pay when it can be sponsored is bad.that type of thinking will spread over to the other consoles where we don't want to pay.

third:games.it has a lot of games.but it's a pc like list.if a gamer grew up on console and japanese games,then a company offers games that you don't like or should i say,didn't grow up on that were more pc like,but don't offer styles you like,then you won't want the system.it's filled with shooters.but i like action games like god of war,dmc,castlevania,rygar,genj i1,onimusha,way of the samurai,etc.if i don't get these type of games,and there's no future list of games like these,then i don't want it.

i bought xbox for bloodrayne2,spiderman2,otogi1 and 2,ninja gaiden,and the best versions of visual concept (nfl 2k5) and codemasters(colin,toca).i don't care that much for shooters.i can have fun in multiplayer,but i love singleplayer action games.it's why xbox live is not necessary for me.why achievements are not necessary.why i don't want to pay for it.because i won't use it that much.i'd do a lan party over online play any day.

and last,the dirty tactics microsoft uses to discredit sony.

not saying i won't get a 360.mass effect looks killer.but it's not enough. i could get gears too,but then the systems breaking(even after updates) and gamers being on their second or third just doesn't sit well with me when all my systems all the way back to my pong and atari system work.fix the defects and i would get it tommorrow.

We are in the beginning of the lifespan of the PS3 it will will sell it's fastest at this point in time. There will not be another surge to equal this buying frenzy until Christmas or a price cut. Sales should be very brisk right now what I want to see is what sales will be like when all the early adopters have gotten there PS3's . How will it sell in July and August. Competition in sales is always a marathon never a sprint. With and install base of over 100 million there are a lot of PS2 customers who will be looking at the PS3. But what will they do in 2 years when the 360 is $200 and the PS3 is $400? Most people (not us PS3 and 360 people) buy video game consoles when they can afford them as a reasonable purchase, they don't have our need to play the best thing out. So let's table this stuff until 2008. Maybe then we will all be playing too much to care. I doubt it but it worth hoping.

For these reasons.
1. I can leave it on folding for at least 16hrs. and not be worried.
(scared of 3 lights on 360)
2. Does much more than played games.
I am i gamer but do have a life and have 1000+ songs and a full season of Full Metal Alchemist and all the classic DBZ show with 30 gigs left. i hardly use the internet browser but when i do porn in HD is awesome.
3.Much more continued.
A lot easier pictures from digi cam and transfer data to and from PSP via memory card slots.
(much more of a hassle to do on 360 disconnect internet connect to comp etc..etc...)
5.Free online
Dont feel like i have to play single player is good enough somtimes i dont wanna play.
(Feels like im wasting money if i dont use XBL)

I have more on PS3 and any games that goes multi i will get on

...But remember that in certain countries their still charging us more for a PS3 and still waiting for Sony to release some of those bloody games you'ved shown in the video. I want to buy a PS3, but really Sony has to sort of make a compromise with the price of their console + quickly release more titles now... or they'll be swamped again by MS once it releases the new XBox 360 black, because it will make us think twice again, especially that this new console will still be far more cheaper than a PS3, and for a the average mom's and dad's ( price ) is everything.

I work for a major retailer and I can tell you that the ps3 is selling on an average ok not great nor bad. I have to tell you from what I see and hear customers are really excited about the ps3,but the price is the killer not games.Everyone I talk to say it's well worth it but they just dont have the money right now , but the do try to get me to hold one for them but we can not do that so I tell them that they should be here later and they do come within two weeks and pick one up. Don't get me wrong I love what m$ has done with the 360 live market but you can't escape the fact that we get atleast 2 or 3 360's returned every week saying that the hard drive stoped working or that they got that dreadful red ring of death I've witnessed it myself with our demo 360 but that goes without saying the ps3 does freeze up from time to time but not like the 360. as for the wii I think it's a great fad but come on seriously it's a family console it's not a 1 person console maybe zelda,but my friends always wanna see how it is and works, by then they wanna play, but I tell them that I don't have but one controller, and if you can find more controls good luck they're harder to find than the console itself. to me it's like playing a gamecube game but with a new control system. sorry but this is a war between 360 and ps3 but to tell you the truth I think after halo 3 is out, ps3 wil drop it's price to $499 plus include spiderman 3 blue-ray for christmas and then my friends it will be a race for ultimate supremecy for console dominance...

Yet another 360 kiosk died at a Gamestop I just visited. That makes 5 permanently Ring-of-Death'd 360 consoles I've seen at stores so far. (3 gamestops, and 2 circuit cities) After seeing the motherboard comparisons, the issue seems to be pretty obvious. When expensive pieces of hardware encased in well-circulated, fully protective environments are dying left and right, that puts up a red flag to consumers. I kinda wish I knew whether it was a hardware problem or a software one (most likely a software problem). True, the 360 motherboard isn't the prettiest thing out there, but all the evidence seems to be pointing to software issues (maybe damage to the firmware?). My Xbox 1 is still doing fine, so I doubt it's a Flextronics issue.

but good points still. i love what MS has done with the 360 i think its a decent console, but to me, there's no denying the ps3.

i understand that the price is steep, but besides that i can't see a reason not to get one. the playstation brand speaks for itself and by far have more proven, well received, more diverse franchises. BY FAR. MS is trying to compete, but after sony drops the price this year, they'll take the lead in this "war" and that will be it. though MS will have a bigger share of the market than last round.

MS will be in a better position to take over in the next round i think, because they're really trying to put up a fight. i enjoy their approach to sway the loyal sony crowd. its like watching the PC vs Mac commercials, very interesting. i love the competition because since i have both, it only means things will get cheaper for me on both ends.

i think the thing that hurt MS the most was the malfunctioning units. its so wide spread, it can't be ignored. if this problem was a small issue it would be over looked, but everybody knows the 360 has these issues. even the xbots whether they admit it or not. i think if MS took their time and really concentrated on making a stable product it would be already over. but a broken console is a way bigger concern than any of sony's lies, issues, or whatever you wanna call them. i'd rather deal with sony lying about the rumble than to have my console overheat or the disk tray freezing all the time, time after time.

in the end i like both. disagree if you like but like someone said earlier, you can't consider yourself a hardcore gamer, and not have both systems. you'd really be missing too much.

Yeah, the PS3 is failing all around the world! Nobody wants it and soon every person in America will convert to Xbox360s. Not to mention that digital distribution will become commonplace around the world as companies decide to end dvd manufacturing in favor of downloaded movies.

The xbox elite thing for $479 vs PS3 20 gig for $499 is not correct you would have to up the price of the PS3 20 gig whatever the cost of an internal sata 2.5" drive would cost. as well as add $10 for an HDMI cable. But wait to make it even we would also have to add the $140 HD-DVD drive to the xbox 360 elite. So lets get cracking to see what the final cost will be.

This puts it really close. I would say that Hardware wise PS3 has and advantage because it uses standard Sata drives For just a few bucks more I could have increased the PS3's drive to 160gb but I was trying to keep the systems as close as possible feature wise. As time goes on drives get bigger cheaper or both and PS3 owner will be able to immediately take advantage of market swings in HDD prices instead of waiting for the next SKU.

Just for curiosity, I wanted to add the WiFi adapter to my above Xbox 360 Elite.

Interesting enough the Xbox 360 wins here but not by much. Sure I've seen the Xbox 360 wifi adapter for $79 here and there but a five dollar difference is not advantage especially since here or there PS3 users can find Hard Drive Deals that drop as much as $20 or for the same price increase their Hard Drive Space (I believe I found a Western Digital 160 GB for $100 plus $6 shipping).

Basically The sytems are tied. Xbox 360 fans claim freedom to choose to adopt New HD Disc technology to keep price down yet Microsoft has lock them out of freedom to choose Storage Capacity - which is important to the modern gamer. PS3 fans are locked into Blu-ray regardless of the outcome but they do have quite a choice in Hard drive configurations and prices.

I think Sony could have pushed competition and pricing by offering Retailers (not consumers) a PS3 with no hard drive attachment. Then retailers could battle to get Cheaper Hard Drives or up Bigger Hard Drives for same price as Sony's basic model and offer their own custom Hardware configurations for the PS3. Of course Sony would have to make it clear that Retailers are not allowed to sell PS3 without a Hard Drive ( O.K. I know some hard core would want it but Software Developers like to see consistency in Hardware Specs knowing that every customer will have a hard drive makes it easier to support the feature)as both Xbox 360 fans and PS3 fans can see choice can be advantageous for both. I like to see the next xbox and PS4 to expand perhaps allowing consumers to upgrade the disc medium to a faster speed like a 4x Blu-ray for PS3 and xbox 360 owners could have Hard drive choice. Maybe they could adopt some newer external connection technologies like eSata (external Sata) or support the new PCI-e external standard - heck, even hot swappable drives so I can buy the smaller cheaper gigs as I need them and just swap out the drive for another rather buy Huge mega drives that I won't fill right away. I would like to see more memory support and the ability for us to add memory if we choose. After all, in 5 years all this stuff should be common place (maybe even out-dated) but cheap enough for console use.

I love my Xbox 360 but I no fool to think that Microsoft is any cheaper or offers more choice than Sony does for the PS3.

I believe this is a pretty fair comparison because only an xbox fan who wants to use their xbox as an entertainment device rather than stricly gaming won't look at the standard premium $399 price and would like to know if Microsoft is supporting them as well (they are and for a decent price). Only concerns that some of us xbox fans who thought the Premium was the King and want to use the entertainment features we know the xbox 360 is capable of but know that it is limited (as did Microsoft thus the Xbox 360 Elite was born). Question I am face with is do I want to spend $479 dollars on another Xbox that doesn't change my gaming situation at all but just adds a few features? Why not spend a hundred more on a PS3 that will also give me entertainment features BUT also "Contributes" to my gaming experience as well by allowing me to experience the goodness of Playstation Exclusives (I have my eye on Heavenly Sword)?

We could get anal about it and say what about included Headset for xbox 360 fans that will up PS3 another $20 - $30 dollars but then PS3 fans counter that they don't have to pay for full use of the Playstation network. Walmart sells xbox live 12 months $49.82. So again a difference of about $10 in favor of the PS3.

Basically if a console is $10 to $20 more expensive is not in my opinion something to get overly work up for.

Stop your quibbling and just buy the system that has the games you like and stop trying to tell people that the other is more expensive - they are not. Gamers stop quibbling over whether the PS3 is a game machine or not. IT IS but it is also more. Also stop assuming ALL Xbox fans only use their Xbox 360 for gaming. Sony fans stop trying to make the PS3 a bargain when it's not it is about the same price for the whole package as an xbox 360/360 elite with a similar hardware configuration. Remember, Sony is in the entertainment industry not Gaming Industry. Since games are entertainment its only natural to build an entertainment machine that can play games. Since Sony is into High Def they need a machine powerful enough to push it and the PS3 delivers. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all have Decent Exclusives and it just sucks now that its more expensive for us consumers to own more than one console.

However that is not Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo's concern. They are concerned about each other 1uping the other so they need to stay competitive and thus competition can raise the costs as we have seen.

Still $400 to $600 dollars is damn cheap for 1080p 60 fps no matter what console achieves it (it has been done - Ninja Gaiden on the PS3). My 2 year old PC with 512mb ram (same as 360 and PS3) can not do 1080p at 60fps and it cost me $1200.

what a bunch of bull crap. if it wasn't for blu ray ps3 would be slow selling, if it wasn't for ps3, blu ray would be dead. WOW! the hype is what kept it alive at the beginning. i bet you half of those people that bought a ps3 were for blu ray. i mean thats not their fault their are no games. There's more blu ray movies out there than their are ps3 games. Now their losing rights to games, thats not good. why do you think sony is so focussed on their ps3 sells, because of blu ray. sell more ps3 consoles=more blu ray players=win format war. This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
