if this is true, i will be upset if they have no plans to make up to the ones that have already purchaced a wii, i mean what is the point of buying a system if they are just gonna release a better one right after the first release, when i found out about the new 360 i was mad cause i just spent $400 on getting the first one, i use a vga cable for my 360 so im not too worried about the HDMI port but i really could use the HardDrive, i find my self always having to delete things just to watch the new episodes off live etc. I feel if they are pulling stuff like this they should offer some sort of deal for the gamers that already have the first release. all it comes down to is that who ever got the launch systems got shafted for supporting the system. how is that fair.

I think Microsoft has begun a new era of gaming. (NOT a good one in my opinion, the newer console versions)

If Nintendo and Sony are to follow, we can all expect new versions of the same systems maybe 2-3 different versions. This trend could also even go into the next gen after this.

I hope nobody does what Microsoft has done because I personally would not like the console gaming experience to head in this direction.

I would like to point out that I think this is totally bogus. But if everyone did start doing what Microsoft has done, the console industry would likley turn to sh*t. No one would buy launch kit for fear of a remodel a year down the line, the consumer and devs would turn to PC because they realise that upgrading a computer is cheaper and possible, so the consoles wouldn't sell. Unless consoles start becoming more liek PC's so you can crack 'em open and change the parts, then this can onyl be a bad thing

The 160Gig HDD will be useful for game downloads (Gamecube??), videos, music, etc. With such an improvement i think something big is planning over us :o

We are the gamers, and these companies are nothing without us. That's why MS needs to wake up and realize that you don't bite that hand that feeds you. And i agree with LostProphet that actions like the Elite 360 are going to ruin console gaming for the fact of that the millions of people that forked over $400 for the normal 360 and now we are suppost to do it again? I feel MS should bite the bullet, and let us trade in the old system for the new one. Out of every friend i know including myself have had to ship in the broke down 360 for a refurb. I think MS should make a slogan: Tired of shipping in your 360 for repairs, then spend another $400 to get one a little better.

the wii is all about easy to pick up and use. Throwing in feature that the big boys have or will soon have will just cause the average consumer to buy a big boy toy.

Seeing as tommorrow is April 1st, I'm gonna say April fools.
But one never knows this might be a way for Nintendo to gauge the reaction of the consumer and make these feature availible for their next console release.

You know that all the extras will be released as addons for the original consoles. I understand the whole ripped off feel, and I totally agree with the fact that if this kind of thing keeps up that launch consoles will fail. I also remember that the PS1 and 2 both had remakes, one of which killed the HD ability of the ps2 (correct me if Im wrong).

Millions of people were told about a media center work in progress that will be above all others over a year before the PS3 even launched. The leader clearly is not Sony thats for sure only a fool would believe such nonsense. To say HDMI is High-def and only way to have high-def, is moronic at best. I mean talk about leaders my Universal remote for my 360 has Phone Digits on it you know phone keys symbols next to the numbers the 360 is so far ahead in the future of multi media the 360 will be used as a phone if they choose to work on it, go ahead if you have the remote look at it( one day you'll be able put your head set on and point the remote at the 360 and video phone you buddies.

What if Nintendo decided to support that other small HD format - HD VMD The start-up that uses existing DVD technology but holds enough to hold 40 gigs. Now we would have 3 competing formats to chose from. Now why would that be significant. It wouldn't except for the Wii isn't that expensive and could actually change the market by giving consumers a recordable disc console while the others (Sony, Microsoft) don't have that ability. This could cut the cost of the HDD because all you would use the HDD for is cache to speed up game times, copying from movie to disc. It would be a sweet thorn in Sony's Side and Microsoft could actually move that way to if they wanted by offering a player based on it same format. Wonder how many blu-ray supporters would support that as a second format over HD-DVD and I wonder if any HD-DVD supporters would adopt the format as second as well. It would be Irony I would love to see play out but know the reality is that that nothing in this article or in my comments is truth.

C'mon think of how big the wii will be with a 180GB HDD and a new dvd drive!!

well saying the wii dident realy take allot of cash to mass produce as it came off the back of the gamecube the control was the only development that nintendo realy had to undertake i dont see why this wouldent be possible because the wii has paid for itself 10 times over already.

First Nintendo is releasing a new Wii later this yr.
Our Nintendo sales rep. says it will be black and will support DVD playback.
The price is said to be abit more then the current Wii. So probably around $279-299 with a new game bundle(Quite possibly WiiSports II).

Rumor has it the current 512MB of stoarge will increase to 1-2GB due to VC and game content DL's.

This will be the X'mas Wii which will be followed by atleast 1-2 more colors down the road.

HD Wii?

The 160GB HDD is currently impossible with the current Wii's design. It would not fit and even if it did you would then have cooling issues.
Nintendo recently killed rumors that it was developing an external HDD for the Wii to connect via the USB in the rear of the Wii. I believe this could be our 160GB HDD as it would make sense as more games (late 07-08) are going to have downloadable game content, more Wii Channels in the pipeline, and with NEO GEO games coming later to VC this year. Nintendo can not afford not to have space because without space you can not DL VC games to your Wii unless it's to an SD card which in it's current state is un-playable until you transfer it into your 512MB of storage.

1080i?
Well it's been longed rumored that the current ATI (based off a PC counterpart with a 720p res) in the Wii could push at least 720p, but Nintendo hindered it to only 480p to play it safe. Not quite 1080i ,but maybe it could with some prodding or Nintendo will just update the ATI in the uber Wii and add an HDMI connector.
So who knows....

HD playback?
If Nintendo chooses the HD VMD (red laser instead of blue) format they would have to get the hollywood studios to back them as well or it would just fail. Which makes me think if Nintendo were to choose an HD format tomorrow I would say they would go with the MS HD Format std due to costs over blu-ray.
This would mean a uber Wii would cost most around the $400 range approx.

I believe Nintendo is going to wait atleast 1 yr before deciding on which format to back.
