Why the hell do they even announce these minor updates?

I gotta give it up to Sony for communicating their upcoming plans. MS used to do this in the first couple years but has since turned back to the silent/faceless/unconnected company it was with the Xbox1.

One request I would love to see in a FW update is a game profile like the 360 has. So basically you set it once and then every game follows the profile you have set. So for me I like my Y-Axis inverted but with the PS3 I have to change it every game I play, especially annoying in demo's.

I hope I can sign in without server errors hell I might get the error never allowing me to even download the update to begin with.

Would like the ability to delete games in my trophy list with 0%.

They gotta' fix that damn battery meter over the clock. Seems like an easy fix.

Man why do people complain and whinge so much when an update doesn't contain something cool?

Yeah we all want cross game chat and invites, and all the other sh!t that would make the psn better. But Sony do have other less obvious things they have to do, and although these small updates might not give us anything new they serve a purpose in fixing problems or stabilising sh!t.
Sometimes they have to make changes in a small way in order to implement bigger changes down the line, its not just a case of waving a magic wand or asking ya mummy to do something for you and getting it done. Code has to be written, and checked, and tested, and checked again!

All i want for the firmware is cross game chat, and the ability to play my Ps2 library on my PS3. And as for the first guy to post a comment on here there is nothing wrong with the PS3 software

Downloads i don't have a 360 to compare to. Some are faster then others, but then again, depends when people download. Peak etc. after all it's still a network.

Online gaming.

I played for 2hours last night Motorstorm pacific rift. and not in any race did i notice lag. You get to choose, what part of the world you want to play in. I mainly go for europe as i'm from uk. It's as smooth as butter.

I don't have outrun, had it for pc long while for pc. It's old school. I much prefer newer racers and theres plenty of them.

Ridge Racer is similar, pure old arcade racer.

And the best old racer is super sprint, used to play it all the time, overhead view, 3 people at once, was awesome back in the day.

Supporting VidZone. All updates are good. Obviously we want features and changes, but sometimes there are other things to deal with.

Truth is SONY has a roadmap of PS3 firmware development. Our comments do affect that roadmap in SMALL ways. Small being the keyword. Obviously it is beneficial for them to get out a streaming music service (ad-supported) to get some returns on investments. To us gamers, we just want more gamer stuff for free. Hey it could be worse. We could be paying for it AND getting shafted with ads!! (cough)xbox(cough)

You buy the ps3 and by doing so your supporting the Playstation Brand and the same is true if you purchase a different console. You can make your voice known, but managers weighting financial benefits and turning profits takes precedence over more free (NON-CORE) gamer-centric features. Cross-chat and party are both Not a core feature. Nice yes, Would i like it Ofcourse! Core? no.

Dam, Still no cross chat. Im still using my 360 for chat while playing RE5 co-op on ps3. Yes, im aware that ps3 uses chat but it's only usable once all parties have loaded up the game. Its frustrating and time consuming trying to set up large games ie Bad company with no party chats.
Why didnt I buy RE5 on 360? I dont care what anyone has to say but I often compare same games on both platform. Lighting and Colour is always MUCH better on ps3. Try comparing the new 1942 (ill rest my case)and RE5. I have GTA4 on both platforms and despite it not running native 720p like 360, the lighting trumps and overall - its looks much better. Yet I must play 360 version so the crew can play together online.... I must say 360's chat features do promote greater use of online. Please Sony, give us the Cross Chat!!!!!

PS. I understand games such as Tekken, Streetfighter, FPS deathmatches and most car games dont really need chat at all. But team based games do. To try and organise an online game so all your mates can play needs cross chat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, heres whats going on and I want to know if anyone else thinks what is happening is total bull shhit. I updated my ps3 with the latest firmware update, it downloaded correctly but during install stops at 60% and gives me an 800 error code. Now Ive tried resting it doing everything possible to get it to install and still nothing crashes at 60%. I call Sony saying hey this is your problem i put your software onto your hardware and now nothing works when it was perfectly fine before i attempted this update. They are telling me to give them 150 bucks to fix it and they will not accept responsibility for whats happening and fix it for free...Bull shhit.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
