PS3 Getting In-game Video Chat?

and for the XMB to be able to control it thru motion and voice using the PSeye.........yeah. Plus if you like it or not EyePet which is a amazing Idea, JP will be ALL OVER THAT. I imagine some of this will come to light at E3. If you don`t have a PSeye buy one, it only like $30 or something like that.

And the reason I bought it wasnt for games. My Mother, father, and two sisters are pretty far from me. Amazingly they all have ps3s and a Pseye. It is nice every Friday to log on and video chat with everyone scattered around the U.S.

For my money, even cross-game audio chat would be welcome. Why should I have to stop everything and go into a chatroom to do that?

For that matter, why is text chat such a chore? I have to pause the game, hit the center button, scroll over to my fiends list (oops, 'friends' sorry) and open the text room, hit enter a couple of times before I can even start texting, write, hit enter again, press the circle button to get out of text mode, and hit the center button to go back to my game. Why in the name of weeping, creeping Jesus should I have to go through all that, when a simple pop-up would suffice? Take a hint from Facebook, Sony. Geeze. >_<

This isn't the supported videochat which works regardless of game. That is the one that would be very useful. Not even so much video as audio.

You are not streaming video and playing a game online, sorry not happening this generation.

MAYBE a coop game but doubtful. My guess is they just improved the video chat.

There is also going to be video chat in Zen Pinball (coming to PSN tomorrow). They had a trailer which showed a few people video chatting while playing the game.

That list in legit but that specific video chat is just an in-game feature similar to High Stakes Poker. HipHopLamer says that it gonna be a permanent OS firmware feature, that just makes their site look even dumber.

I'm with you - it's always been available to devs in-game.
High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition patched in 6-way video chat, allowing both PSeye and the old EyeToy camera.

Hey but at least its something that the ps3 can do. I remember when there were only certain games that could do in game music on the ps3, but then it was only a couple of months till Sony actually allowed Devs to use the OS to implement it.

I agree that LIVE has a few features that PSN doesn't have, but most of the main stuff is the same between them.

Also, LIVE costs money while PSN is free. For some people those few features aren't really worth the extra cost.

Personally, I like them both. But I do have to admit that I don't always have LIVE because sometimes I don't have the money to afford it.

That might be because any USB camera works on the PS3 and Thats why we havent heard anything from eyepet.

This is game specific and has been known for a while, it won't be universal.

It's such a situational type item for mostly casual games that it's unlikely it will ever be a part of the OS/firmware of the 360 or the PS3, but tied directly to software (including Home and similar apps that may appear on the 360).

I think the main thing people are looking for the the PS3 OS is in-game chat and cross-game chatting capability on the OS level.

I think the issue is that it would most likely be turned off most of the time if implemented so that people don't have their gaming disrupted by suddenly having a portion of their screen pop-up with a friend's face on it. They have other things to implement that would likely be more widely used on a larger level, so they'll work on those. Perhaps at some point they'll implement it, but not before many other things.

sony hasnt released cross game video chat via firmware update. I mean I appreciate that theyre helping secure all these amazing games for us to play, but the community has shouted out for this feature for so long, why wouldn't they implement it? Maybe theres hope for this E3, remember the fw update that was rumoured at E3 a few days ago?

It's obviously game-specific, as many have mentioned already, but why would anyone want video chat in-game anyway? Are you paying attention to your gaming or are you looking at the video chat? Now, private audio chat and a party system are another story..

And I laughed when they said something about taking HHG a little more seriously, at the end of the article. Be for real.

...the ability to record msg clips and send them to friends... It'd be a great tool in HOME- say as an answering machine (<there's already a PHONE a friend option, why not leave a voice msg option?)

I wouldn't use in-game voice chat, I don't want any distractions from the REAL game... txt chat is good enough for now!

Video chat would be awesome bugt I would be happy enough if I could play the game I want and keep voice chating with a friend or two at the same time.
I still play a lot or old PC games and with friends via skype voice chat.
IT IS MUCH MORE FUN TO PLAY AND TALK WITH FRIENDS USING A HIGH QUAITY PROGRAM LIKE SKYPE !

I got a PS3 but I doubt that the console is powerful enough to keep a high quality voice in-game chat and so I doubt this video chat will be good enough to be worth using.

anyways as a Sony fanboy that I am it is always fun to get surprised.

The PSeye already have a super cool mic attached to it.
I preffer the sound quality of the PSeye over the Ps3 official headset.
only problem is that there is no mute button on the camera.

Give us cross chat for petes sake already. Its really not fun setting up a team based game like Bad company with no pre-room party chat. Is quite a head-f#@k just doing it with 2 people in RE5. Party chat on 360 is the sh!t and as soon as PS3 has it the sooner ill start buying multiplayer bias games for it.
Many-a-noob dont understand the importance of the cross-chat features for online. The many that do are frustrated im sure
