It's 2.5 years after release and Sony still hasn't caught up to the #1 thing we have screamed for since day 1---Cross game voice chat.

I love my PS3 but my 360 stays on simply for party chat during my gameplay sessions. It's about time Sony stop BSing around after 2.5 years and gave the players what we've wanted for so long. After that nail in coffin for Xbox live feature if you ask me since Sony would have caught up and passed it by being free.

cross game chat and cross game invites are the top features that sony should bring to the ps3. silly features like having a persons profile load faster is unnecessary . psn's main feature like being lag free already makes it the best.

I bet they add something old, last update they added morse code aka text chat. lol

ill take the chat stuff, and that would be enough for me. but if they want to give me more i'll take the ability to mute people that would be nice. invites would be good. party would be nice but not necessary.

I know everyone wants cross-game chat (I do too), but I don't know why everyone is talking about it like it's going to happen. Honestly, the updates have been piss poor since 2.40. The photo app? Text chat (censored and limited to 16 chars)?

if there is no Voice chat then its just another fail for Sony's updates that are pretty much worthless until that is added.

Duh, there is always a new firmware with E3.

..some of these features:

- A video store that can be accessed outside of the USA (so the other 5.5bn people can use it)
- Some decent PS1 downloads
- An IM service like Skype, Digsby etc
- MKV support
- a decent Podcast capturing facility
- a deal with Hulu
- A region free PS2 emulator (It's way overdue)
- A decent browser, ditch the current crap and use Firefox / Chrome
- Life With PlayStation that allows zooming on content
- Region free DVD playback
- Text chat that works(No censoring, character limit)
- Unified PlayStation Home (there are game spaces that are US only, EU only etc, BS).

This will be like the 5th FW update this year.

Im not suprised at all sony even saied their gonna be releaseing a free music video service soon.So hopefully that will be in it but that also is a hint that we will be geting a new firmware update soon. Also think for a second you gotta pay for music videos on the xbox 360 hahaha.

this up date should be huge from music videos to in game video chat all the way to voice messages a home update of E3 and the GOD of WAR demo so be waiting

Since they did the movie store last year, Might be a music store this year, or the special music program thing that was rumored about.
Since they can't have unified custom soundtrack support (Thanks to an MS Patent), they should give an option to play music over the top or instead of sound from the game you're playing.

The best things that are desired in a FW update was already written by posts above this one.
So what I would like to add is a way to turn off the "special"sound effects of Themes for the PS3.

The coolest themes I have seem , most of then have those annoying sound effects...too much noise.... can't send a text, when not playing a game,
without huge noises.

The $1.99 bioshock or the also cool looking R2(qore theme) theme for exemple is one of the coolest and the best themes for the PS3, adding great high quality photos without making it hard to read text in the XMB but have the huge downside of the noises.

I'd like to see sony and apple work together to allow itunes to broadcast to the ps3.

i dont even have a mic so thats useless for me. what i really want is.... dun duh duh dun! PS2 BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY! i would cream my pants if that happened. and i would even spend money for it, say they were to let you download the emulator for $20 or something, i bet it would be a huge hit.

Hopefully whatever it is turns out to be something useful. There's lots of options on the XMB, but I never use many of them.

every time theres mention of firmware ppl get excited, and every time ppl get let down cus they expect too much. I'm guessing the same will happen here

The makers of God Of War have said that they want more then 50GBs on the Bluray and Sony has been working on a 400GB, so I see that be one of the things they need to update and who knows their might be other games using more then 50GB.

Cross game chat could be useful but I want other features like sending music to friends, you can send pics why not music

Skype will be soo good to have on the PS3. I would love to have that feature on my PS3.

The new firmware will release the hardware lock on the PS3's PPE and GPU; similar to the PSP unlock when it went from 222 Mhz to 333 MHz.

Basically, this will put the PS3 in Super-Saiyan mode lol.

How about the ability to set a start,pause,resume time for each download, + a shutdown option upon completion.

I mean, I've read a lot of comments from people who have said that Sony could release an update to the PS3 so that it could read quad layer BD discs. Is that possible? Because I think they should do that. Hideo Kojima managed to max out 50 GBs on his first try and he said he even needed more than that. And another thing. Do developers compress the game data when they put it on a BD disc or do they just put it in uncompressed? Cuz I think for Xbox 360 almost every game is compressed.
