Space Invaders Extreme is entering a pretty crowded virtual shelf, with amazing retro updates and influences like Pac-Man Championship Edition and Geometry Wars, two games IGN personally feels are far superior throwbacks than Space Invaders Extreme is, at least on the Xbox 360. The Xbox Live Arcade version of Taito's 2008 handheld game might have all the same elements that made an incredible shooter on the PSP and Nintendo DS, but as a console experience it's dialed down to simply "good."

Now, a decade later and with Space Invaders hitting its 40th anniversary, Space Invaders Extreme has been revived on PC. It’s roughly based on the Xbox 360 version but with a some major tweaks and quality-of-life enhancements.
