Everything looks great except for the gun model. Low-poly and awkward-looking compared to the gun models on CryEngine 2 on PC.

trancefreak6244d ago

great comments below loved your points.

JokesOnYou6244d ago

I can't wait to see the first game running this engine on a console.

brandonk1296244d ago

xbox 360 is going to explode it cant handle cryengine just like elpresador said, killzone 2 all day

Kurylo3d6243d ago

@Brandon

I hate to tell you this, but... ps3 version has lag issues so far. It is still an early build, but they have 4 programmers working on the ps3 version and 1 working on the 360 version. 360 version doesnt have the loss of frame rate issues. I know this because I work for a company that is partners with crytek. We use the cry engine 2. It was also displayed at GDC to have those issues. But this is what the guys at crytek told us.

crazy-eyez-killah6243d ago

These are not new! Heck most arnt even of Cryengine 3......one of them is and its from the trailer so isn't exactly 'new'.

Why do people keep posting cryengine 2 PC shots and saying they are from Cryengine 3? Shot 2 is about 2 years old, shots 3 and 4 are from a cryengine 2 mod, 5 and 8 are from PC I think and 7 is old.

Some screens are great and very realistic.

Mindboggle6244d ago

Definetley gives Killzone 2 a run for its money for graphics in console games.

LinuxGuru6244d ago

Sorry, there's no way in hell what we've seen so far can be said to fully compete with Guerrilla's proprietary engine.

The city environments in Killzone 2 absolutely smack Cry Engine 3's present cityscape showing into the next county.

Now what Cry Engine IS really good at rendering is forest and natural-type landscapes. They look absolutely amazing, with all the great sunshafts and HDR lighting, as well as all the procedurally-rendered foliage.

So far, Killzone 2 still has the edge on animation, lighting, and some effects.

Textures, character models, and some effects as well as some lighting techniques are on pretty much equal terms between CryEngine 3 and Killzone 2.

If a fully dynamic lighting engine (with shadows produced not only by flashlights but by muzzle flashes as well) is introduced into C.E. 3 and the animation is blended more, then you'll see a game engine that is just about on par with Guerrilla's proprietary efforts.

creatchee6244d ago

Well, there's two things with your comment:

1. Guerrilla's proprietary engine. Keyword here is proprietary. You're not going to see flight simulators or sports games or close-combat games or... well... ANY other games using the Killzone engine because it is specifically designed for Killzone where CryEngine is designed as a multipurpose engine to be used with a variety of games. Comparing the two in terms of implementation isn't really fair.

2. Killzone 2 has some crappy textures of its own. Go close to any object that's not attached to a character. Gets a bit grainy, doesn't it? In fact, when you're not engaged in fights or moving around, the graphics lose a bit of their mystique. I'm not saying that KZ2 graphics aren't great - they are. Just saying that they have their own problems.

sack_boi6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

Surpassing Killzone 2 in graphics is a actually a good thing. So why do you sound butthurt?

FantasyStar6244d ago

Exactly, what's wrong with progress? We should want games to keep one-up'ing each other cause it's the gamers who win in the end.

II Necroplasm II6244d ago

So LinuxGuru, if 4 years from now Killzone 2 was the best looking game you would be happy?

LinuxGuru6244d ago

I know it's a good thing, I'm just being realistic. I made a comparison of textures between console CryEngine 3 and Killzone, which so far seem about equal. Meaning...not so good on some things yet awesome on others.

I'm not butthurt, I'm just being realistic. A lot of work went into the Killzone engine, and it's going to take a lot of work for anyone to fully top it. That's the reality of the situation, sorry if that seems defensive of it or anything, but that's just how it is.

Uncharted 2, CryEngine 3 game, and whatever else is coming in the future is going to have to do a lot, very well, to completely top KZ2's graphical prowess.

We'll see. I'm excited for the graphical and interactive (physics and such) future of videogames.

Now physics, on the other hand....Red Faction Guerilla totally owns that category right now. Walking through a building with a 30-foot tall construction mech ala 'i, Robot' is absolutely amazing...nothing will top that for a long time, in my opinion.

CaseyRyback_CPO6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

The same way Naughty dogs streaming algorithm found itself in Killzone2. It wont find its way to any multiplatform games. But the advancements in deferred rendering have found themselves in titles like GT Prologue, and Motorstorm2, which boasts vector blur as well. I forget the name of the procedure to do normal maps on the ground, but they also share that with kz2. the devs have even stated "dont be surprised if you see our technology in other thing s like racing games." Which can be found in the behind the scenes interviews.

kz2's texture issues are minimal compared to the entire picture painted frame by frame. If you find a low poly rock in Crysis, it means the same thing. Nothing at all, because the entire frame is doing something thats impossible on other consoles at the moment -- And are ages beyond anything multiplatform engines can currently produce. Its a bit of a non issue, especially for the 1.0 version of the engine.

as far as the story:

These screens are old, and some are from pc mods for crysis. The story is bubkiss.

Mindboggle6244d ago

Ive seen a trailer and these screenshots, and thats enough to tell me that these graphics are very very good and definetly rival Killzone 2...

And whats with the Disagrees. I cant wait till a game surpases Killzone 2 graphics, as I love to see technology advances in action. Do you honestly think Killzone 2 is going to be the best we see this gen ?? Better graphics is always a good thing...

SuperM6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

Please tell me, what game doesnt have crappy textures when you go really close to the wall? Crysis definately has its fair share of "crappy" textures. Though i fail to see the big deal since your not supposed to smear yourself all over the walls. Only reason people complain about textures in KZ2 is because its an FPS and it has the best graphics on consoles. Fact is that if Gears of War was an FPS you would instantly notice that alot of the textures look like crap when you look at them up close. Its just that you never do that in a third person shooter so you live under the illusion that the textures are better when they probably are significantly worse.

Also, id say the city images we have seen from Cryengine 3 doesnt stack up with what we've seen from KZ2. Im curious how lush green environments would look like on the KZ2 engine. I think it could rival Crysis for sure.

Arnon6244d ago

You do realize that the main feature of Killzone 2 was it's lighting, correct? Because textures were absolute sh*t in that game. And yes, I played through it like 3 times. The gun models were very nice too. But when I was roaming through Far Cry 2 just on my Xbox 360... I was blown away. Killzone 2's lighting is what set it.

I have no doubt in my mind that Cry Engine 3 is going to massacre Guerrilla Engine.

GarandShooter6244d ago

Lets see what it actually does 'in game' on a console before deciding one way or the other.

Why dis6244d ago

Yes KZ2 had bad looking textures in some cases the textures were blocks like on barrels and stuff the lighting hid the way the game really looks.

LinuxGuru6244d ago

The majority of these screens, save for a couple are from old CryEngine 2 PC builds and a mod of that engine as well.

So no...you can't base your argument off those screens.

Agent VX6244d ago

Wow, here we go again. Comments like Linux Guru are so far out to left field, it is amazing people write this type on garbage.

Cry 3 Engine is noticably better in virtually every aspect than the one used with Killzone 2, miles ahead, "No", but definitely better. LinuxGuru starts to spill his gibberish by saying that "I made comparison of textures between console CryEngine 3 and Killzone" Bahahahahaha!!!!! What a load of trash this is, he hasn't made any comparison what so ever because all he has is a few pictures on the internet of the Cry 3 Engine. I doubt he even has a HD monitor to play his PS3 on.

LinuxGuru sounds like a pathetic fanboy writing crap like this because not only will this be on the PS3, but also the 360. And he doesn't like that.

I am looking forward to this engine coming out soon, and we will start to see what the 360 and PS3 are really capable of.

Perkel6244d ago

Heavy Rain with GT give all games so far Run for their Money :)

DaTruth6243d ago

Killzone 2 is the best looking game! Get over it! These guys rent it and take it to a buddies house and stand close to walls and examine textures. I personally didn't notice any bad textures, I was busy enjoying it! The game is full of action, so I'm not sure when you get the chance to examine.

kewlkat0076243d ago

Well, I reckon nothing wrong with progress, as long as the Best Progress is always being displayed on a fanboy's console of choice, only then, could they sleep or be at ease. You know how it is.

Arnon6241d ago

"Killzone 2 is the best looking game! Get over it! These guys rent it and take it to a buddies house and stand close to walls and examine textures."

You don't have to stand close to a wall to notice the bad textures in Killzone 2... They kinda pop out at you.

Supercalifragili6244d ago

I want to see games using this engine.

Arsenic136244d ago

Finally something to get rid of that fugly Unreal Engine.

II Necroplasm II6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

Unreal Engine is great for games like Bioshock, Gears of War and Unreal Tounament of course but damn we need some more powerhouse engines on consoles, that's for sure.

Thank goodness CryEngine is coming to consoles.

Timesplitter146244d ago

Just reading "Unreal Engine" gives me a headache

edhe6244d ago

Whilst the anti-UE argument is old and worn thin [do you blame the canvas and paints for your efforts looking the same as someone else's efforts with canvas and paints] it's always good to see competition.

Unreal engine has brought us some great games, which is more important than having differently rendered NPCs.

DaTruth6243d ago (Edited 6243d ago )

The only thing here old and worn thin is the Unreal engine!!!

The argument is only like that cause of how long the Unreal engine has been old and worn thin!

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio38d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing37d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9237d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit37d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing37d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9237d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
