"What elements push a PC game beyond mere goodness and into greatness?
For this author, games are best when they deliver a transcendent gaming experience that is possible only with the aid of a personal computer. They don't simulate board or card games, reproduce real-world sports or try to approximate movies. They are an art form unto themselves.
I surveyed dozens of PC game developers, asking them to share their picks for the 10 greatest PC games ever. In addition to weighing their opinions, I took into account factors such as influence, innovation, design and replay value.
To be considered, a game must have achieved most of its prominence on a PC platform. (This explains why Tetris, for example, didn't make the cut: it was clearly the Nintendo Game Boy's killer app. I defined a PC as any consumer computer that has a keyboard the user can program with arbitrary code, not just a PC of the IBM variety."

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

Spiders: "We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.
We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
If you have any questions or run into issues with your games, please contact Nacon directly as we'll no longer be able to reply."
Good list. I remember playing MULE with friends back in the 80's and it was a blast. Wish I can play that again.
The list is good, but this top 10 list should be named "Top 10 most Influential PC Games".
Lots of the games listed were good, but not the best ever. Their creation influenced some of the greatest PC games, like Civ 1 was the seed the made Civ 4 which is a much better game. Doom 1 was great, but the games Doom 1 influenced like Halflife 2 are much better.
Never the less, PC gaming is still the best.
To each their own , but sounds more for a few , as a list of who brought some features first , than a real top pc games . At least to me .
Mine would be , in no particular order :
diablo 2
Starcraft
Baldur's gate
Baldur's gate 2
Quake 2
Quake 3 (i know 2 games and their prequels aleady , but each were quite different and brought a lot imo )
Everquest
Syndicate Wars
X-wing vs tie fighters
Counterstrike (though i can't stand it anymore for various reasons)
This list needs more Tex Murphy...
Nice list, never played MULE or Rogue so I'd put in Geoff Grammonds Grand Prix as that was the racing game that really hooked me and got me playing multiplayer over a null modem lead. I'd perhaps put Quake in the list for its 3D graphics and for being the game that really brought internet multiplayer to the FPS genre and like Agent X would add IL-2 Sturmovik to the list in place of Myst which I felt was overrated. IL-2 or perhaps European Air War though I've spent more time in IL-2 than I ever did EAW. Warbirds was another great air sim that hooked me and I remember evening making PPP/SLIP scripts in DOS to dial long distance to get into the servers.
