The wii controler is the worst that has happended to gaming, period...

If Sony decides to do this, I'm fine with it. But don't expect me to care. If I wanted to waggle a remote-control looking thing in the air, I'd've bought Wii.

It might be nice to have a new gadget for the Ps3 but the thing is howmuch will it cost and are there going to be more lawsuits with this controller. But I honestly think Sony should have had this controller prior to launch of the Ps3 or wait till the release of the PS3 before they braught out this new controller.

Is this the 3rd party motion controller similar to the one that is being done for the 360 or is this actually a Sony product?

It sounds just like what was rumored from MS last year that never was announced thankfully.

If I wanted motion games I would/will buy a Wii. That is not what I bought a 360 or PS3 for. However, like someone said above if they can continue to deliver AAA blockbusters that push gaming and they want to have the ability to make fun little motion games like Wii Sports than I don't have a problem with that.

I can guarantee neither Sony or MS will replicate Nintendo's success with the buying public with motion controls. It's too late for that.

...I told them to do that, but to put it on the PS2 for direct competition for the Wii.

Plus, it would give the Wii some new life, seeing that Wii developers will be working with consoles with roughly the same power.

Sony need to stop copying nintendo if you ask me the ps3 controller with motion sensing is better and I like the ps2 controller look.

Resident Evil 5 should work great with a WiiMote like control. RE4 was perfect with the WiiMote but it was too easy too.

Many of u are arguing that this device should have been released with the launch of the system. But do u think over the price? These wii-buyers would have never purchased ps3 with 599 dollar price tag attached to it. I would bet that when if Sony announce this thing at the E3, they will slash it down to 299$. Maybe with a slime ps3?

If they release a decent motion control device and support it in the right way, without cutting any development time or money from the real games then it can only be good.

If it helps bring the large casual gaming market over to the PS3 (people who want a Blu-ray player and fun party games all in one) then that can only help Sony shift units and have a much bigger install base.
Then hopefully the real games will gain from this as sony will be in a position to use the money gained from the casual gamers to invest in making a better all round service.... assuming they stick to the way they are going at the moment and adding as much usability to the PS3 as possible.

I play my PS3 all the time, but I never play my Wii as I find it boring. After playing Wii Sports I couldn't wait for some decent Golf games to come out. But after playing Tiger Woods and taking it back and getting a refund I realised that the Wii's motion control is only good for simple party games (which I assume is why nintendo are bringing out motion plus or whatever its called).
If the PS3 can do it right then being able to play all the normal games with the normal controller, but also being able to get certain games like tiger woods with motion control is just a good thing.

The only potential problem with it I see would be if they try to give motion control functionality to games that it doesn't suit.
Basically if I can play COD/ect ect as normal, but also have access to golf, tennis, boxing, party games with the motion control then I will be happy with that.
If done right its no different than having some extra games with different controllers like guitar hero for example; just cos they released a game that used a little plastic guitar controller it didn't affect the other side of gaming.

although hopefully they'll put out some REAL motion controlled games that are actually fun and groundbreaking instead of 6 IR lights that make you think the wii can sense what you're doing when it's really just guessing. why do a good job when you can make people pay for a peripheral (motion plus) that will ACTUALLY do what the wii was supposed to do years ago?

If it is as good as if not better than the Wiimote with motion plus, I would definitely buy games like Tiger Woods on the PS3 instead of the Wii going forward. It would be the best of both worlds..

If this is real, I wonder if we will see PS3 versions of third party games initially designed for the wiimote (casual games, but also titles like Madworld). Obviously, developers will have to pay much more to make these games on the PS3 as most gamers would not accept poor graphics on this system.

DanSolo is right. As long as Sony doesn't allocate to much of their time and resources to silly party games this could be cool. If casual gamers pick up a PS3, maybe they'll see the light and start buying some real games.

This could be their gateway drug. For example, after not gaming at all for about four years I picked up a DS and Brain Age. I was bored of that in under a week – two months later I was playing GTA4 and CoD4.

hmmm even if it's gonna basically be wii games with better graphics, the whole waving my arms around just doesn't impress me. unless the motion sensing is bang on, so it replicates exact movements, i'm really not interested. if i was i'd have just bought a wii

sony's been on a roll with 1st party games. i hope they continue to take risks. i'd hate to see them ruin it with with a bunch of "wii motion" mee too type games.

Sony and MS will have to now have 1:1 motion. If not it is a fail.
Wii now has 1:1 motion and games to back it up. Sony will have to do that and have a killer app to make consumers buy it.

Oh, and Motion is the future get used to it.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
