One of the most welcome announcements at Capcom's recent press event was the news that the publisher will release Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game was originally released in arcades in 2000 and was quickly followed by a release on the Sega Dreamcast console. The game later made its way to the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox in 2002 and 2003, respectively, but purists have always favored the DC version, since it was based on hardware that was similar to the NAOMI system--the same system that the original arcade version was released on. Thankfully the DC/Naomi code is what is being used for the upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, which will appear as downloadable games this summer. Capcom had a playable version of the game running on the PlayStation 3 at the event, and Gamespot promptly tore right into it.

Everyone is trying the shared universe thing these days, but Marvel and Capcom were mashing up their most beloved characters decades ago. Perhaps their best crossover effort was Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, which was released on the PlayStation 2 & Xbox on Nov. 19, 2002, in North America. Previous releases took place in arcades and on Sega’s beloved but ill-fated Dreamcast console. Later releases came out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360’s digital storefronts.
Former employees of Backbone Entertainment have formed a new company called Digital Eclipse. On Twitter studio head Mike Mika confirmed they would love to help the fans. In addition to having ported MvC 2 before, the studio has worked with Disney on re-releases of the Disney Afternoon Collection, Aladdin and The Lion King. Legions of fans are waiting for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to take them for one more ride.

Arcade1Up reveals how the company was able to bring back the retro fighting game, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, with brand-new arcade cabinets.
The PlayStation Brahs:
"YouTube Maximilian Dood’s ‘#FREEMVC2’ campaign went big time viral as it spread like wildfire on social media. The goal? To get the attention of Disney and Capcom to bring back the greatness of Marvel vs Capcom 2 to modern consoles. Good news, as Capcom and Disney have had some discussions regarding the matter."
Please work it out. I have fond memories of this fighter game. Not to mention the sequels just aren't as balanced as this game was.
I really enjoyed the game on Dreamcast.
A lot less when it was later re-released on newer systems, because I believe all characters were already unlocked instead of you playing to unlock them. The SP experience on those re-releases was just ‘less’ than the Dreamcast version, which was a bit disappointing.
Would love a proper HD remake/remaster, if given the care & love it deserves (instead of a quick cash-grab with a mediocre port).
Would also love to see Capcom release a FullHD port/renaster/remake of Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (psp).
I want them to rerelease the entire Marvel vs Capcom series on modern platforms, from X:Men Children of the Atom to Marvel vs Capcom 2
I’d also love for the next Marvel vs Capcom title to live up to its series legacy rather than being a disappointment like Infinite
Is it me or do the characters appear smaller?! maybe because it got adjusted to widescreen?
