Microsoft Raises Price for Lode Runner

Earlier this morning, Lode Runner, the newest XBLA game, could have been bought for 800 Microsoft Points. At around 10:30 AM PST, Microsoft raised the price to 1200 Microsoft Points and ended up angering many potential buyers.

Always looking for a way to nickel and dime gamers.

GiantEnemyCrab6231d ago (Edited 6231d ago )

Sometimes I wonder how MS thinks. They seem so disconnected from the customer. They already have a horrible reputation for being nickel and diming masters but they do things like this and it's like them saying "Yeah your right live with it! We screwed up and you pay for it!"

I really think those short term nickels and dimes are even more important to MS than their reputation.

EDIT: LOL, I see Major Nelson has turned off his comments he was getting so much hate mail. Just like MS, when your customers start calling you out lock the door and hide. Egg meet face!

Sucks for potential buyers but it seems obvious that they PROBABLY put it up on their store for the wrong price, realized their mistake and changed it.

I bet someone's gonna get fired over that mistake....

It was meant to be 1200 MS points, so why all the uproar? You're pretty cheap if you can't spend $15 on a game and complain over a $5 difference, but are willing to spend that $5 on coffee that last for about 15 minutes.

price wasnt raised it was incorrectly priced at 800 points.

sum of us got lucky before they found out...

People got a deal. They got it for 800. It has been advertised for 1200 for weeks. They did not raise the price. The examiner is garbage.

JasonXE6231d ago (Edited 6231d ago )

Making a story out of nothing if you ask me. The Headline should read "MS mistakes gives deal to consumers". If it was schedule to be 1200 points but was priced at 800 for awhile then it was a deal.

edhe6231d ago

Plus it's the publisher that sets the price, not MS.

the fact is arcade games shouldnt cost more then 800 pts, im over buying a 1500 pt card only to be able to buy one game.

the price of a 1500 pt card here in new zealand has gone up buy $5.00 NZD just reciently, and most arcade game prices seem to be getting higher and higher, so i feel really ripped off.

i was going to buy banjo tooie, but im over being charged so much for old games so probably wont.

I remember playing this on the VIC-20. Fun game but I never did finish it though.

A great game. There was a cool remake by Sierra in 1994 for Windows and Macs (also released on PS1 and Saturn) which had nicely detailed animation and environmental sounds. I remember being sucked into that one for hours as a kid, creating fiendish levels my friends didn't want to play.

Review: Lode Runner (Wii U eShop / NES) - NLife

NLife:
"Broderbund's Lode Runner is a challenging puzzler that, unfortunately, hasn't aged particularly gracefully. Originally released in 1983 on computers like the Apple II and the Commodore 64, Lode Runner feels dated, even for an NES game. It's easy to see the reason Lode Runner was released on so many different platforms over the years — there's a wealth of gameplay with clever level design and a level editor — but there's nothing here that offers anything that today's gamers haven't seen before. Games like Spelunky have expanded greatly on Lode Runner's gameplay; as such, this is only recommended for gamers who want to take a trip back in time to see what we've learned from the classics."
