RazorTv: Alan Wake Game Preview

"Alan Wake is a game over 5 years in the making. The Windows and XBOX 360 exclusive will hit shelves in 2010 but developer Remedy has yet to widely release any gameplay footage of the title. Has it been over-hyped, or could this be the defining next-gen video game? Check out what we know so far of this modern psychological thriller."

George Sears6236d ago

I don't know why I am really anticipating this game as much as I am since Remedy has really shown pretty much nothing at all about this game but if this game is what I expect it to be (an awesome open world horror game) then I might buy a 360 just for it.

nightelfmohawk6236d ago

Why would you do that when the game is going to be superior on PC?

GWAVE6236d ago

Looks pretty dang good.

Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen. The overused excuse of "Well....the only reason Killzone 2 looks so good because it's been in development for 4 years" will be put to the test.

And here's Alan Wake, developed for 5 years. Let's see if that argument will hold up when it finally releases on 360. I'm definitely looking forward to playing this game.

bardler6236d ago

The reason this game has been in development for so long is because Remedy is a small developer. They only have 30-35 people working on the game compared to Guerilla Games 140 in house employees who worked on KZ2. Less people on the game equals more development time obviously.
If remedy tripled or quadrupled their team size then they could easily get the game done sooner but quality is the most important thing to them, and a smaller team allows for easier quality control.

pain777pas6236d ago

Best summary on the game I've seen. I'm not that hyped though I definitely want to know more and see more of course.

" Why would you do that when the game is going to be superior on PC? "

Because he can and want.

Hey dumb ignorant if "George Sears" wants to buy an Xbox 360 and Alan Wake its none of your damn business. So go back to your PS3 cave with your PR brainwashed brain and Shut up!

What its your next move PS3 fans? Start kidnapping everyone who wanna buy an Xbox360?

Yeah place your bet but i am 100% sure that them without using a damn blu-ray disc and with 5 years in the making to be stored on DVD disc or discs they are going to give us great quality in graphics and a better Campaign and Story than the so over hyped KZ2. I prefer a game to take 4-6 years in making because on the overall design its not just graphics its also about characters and Story.

pippoppow6236d ago

1st poster stated he may have to buy a 360 for the game and in case he didn't know another poster stated that a superior version will be available on the PC. Why so defensive especially about a multi-platform game. It is true a superior version will be available for the PC, $10 cheaper, free online play and mod support most likely. Very nice that it will be available on the PC for those that don't have a 360. Upsetting isn't it fanboys.

George Sears6236d ago (Edited 6236d ago )

The reason that I would prefer getting this game on the 360 rather than on the PC is because I personally dislike playing on a PC and they are a couple of great games on the 360 that I would also like to enjoy. (Mainly RPG's like Star Ocean 4, Lost Odyssey and the likes)

Not only that but my PC is very old and I just use it just for logging on the internet and doing college work.

thereapersson6235d ago

Don't forget that GG basically had to write an entirely new engine and rendering system for Killzone 2, which is now being used in certain ways in other upcoming games. I think that God of War III will use the lightning techniques that KZ2 currently employs, for example.

pixelsword6235d ago (Edited 6235d ago )

It looks like it will turn out to be a great game, whether you get it on the 360 or PC, so if you have either, get it without worries. Remedy made AW to be played on the 360, so it's not like it's a port in the sense that bringing it to the 360 was an afterthought.

Off topic, I would like to also see Heavy Rain and Alan Wake at E3 so we can make a proper comparison; since the two seem to be around the same type of game. It reminds me of how both Prototype and InFAMOUS are similar.

The Lazy One6235d ago

I'm pretty sure they made a new engine for Alan Wake too dude.

@Gwave

like the guy above said. One developer had ~150 people working 5 years. One has 30 people 5 years. Either way, just based off what remedy has shown, the game looks great.

The only thing I'm worried about with the game is how well it will translate to gameplay.

odisho686235d ago

graphics-wise from what has been shown alan wake can't compete with heavy rain...but gameplay is what matters and we will not know that until we see some reviews and play both games which are still a ways off from coming out

The Lazy One6235d ago

There hasn't been any gameplay footage of alan wake shown just screens, and there's only been like 1 trailer of heavy rain shown.

There's really no way to make a graphics comparison between the two and it be in any way legitimate.

SarcasticPS3fan6235d ago

As a huge fan of Twin Peaks and David Lynch work this i a must have for me. I might have to get an 360 because of this game.

Great preview.It was very good.

Apart from the little info on Alan Wake,it continues to have a certain intriguing aspect on the story.I'll be sure to pick it up for PC as soon as a release date is down.

andron6236d ago

And this preview is a great summary of whats know about the game so far...

Spike476236d ago

But......When is it coming out? LOL

I did not murder him6236d ago

Do you have XP, Vista or 7 installed which is better to run this game? I think my PC can run this game but what OS will I need.

bviperz6236d ago

XP is still the king. Windows 7 shows promise. But at $300+ not enough promise.

360 man6235d ago

did u just say at gaming xp is still king.

u obviously must not do alot of pc gaming.

this game is said to be a DX 10 game only

DX 10 games nowadays not only look better but actually perform better.

if this game supprts DX 10.1 then thats just the icing on the cake

basically providing u have 2 or more gigs of ram then get vista or wait till window 7 price comes down

phosphor1126235d ago

So I can play this game along with others like crysis. I might as well. Honestly, I wouldn't by a 360 just for that game, even if it has other games, I don't want to dish out 50 a year when I play PC and PS3 a lot already. So 300, I can get more RAM, and a better video card..which is all i need.

I really want to play this game though.

excellent preview, I hope Alan Wake doesn't suffer the same fate as Too Human

strotee6236d ago

What fate is that? A game loved and cherished by critics and gamers everywhere that set the new heights for graphics and story-telling?

A Late Look: Alan Wake

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "All in all, it’s not hard to see why Alan Wake has received a bit of a cult following (there’s that famous foreshadowing again). It’s a title that blends themes and gameplay, while pushing the limits of storytelling by putting stories within stories and letting you read those stories before you get to that part in… the story. It has flaws, to be sure - the gameplay side can’t quite keep up with the rest of its ambitions - but overall it’s a great game that stands out among its peers and is undeniably… one for the books."

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran8760d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

jznrpg172d ago

People sometimes call Wal-Mart Wally World including myself

Tacoboto759d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia760d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger759d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie759d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

759d ago
Profchaos759d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie759d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh759d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.
