LotRO: Book 7 Patch 2 Out Next Week

Turbine has announced that the next patch for its MMO, Lord of the Rings Online, is scheduled for release sometime next week.

The exact date of the patch will be announced "as soon as the schedule is firm". The relatively small update, Book 7 Patch 2, features the new Quest Guide system, which is now finally out of beta. Players will find the system is turned on by default, but it can be toggled off in the options panel in UI settings.

It's quite interesting that they call their patches and version numbers pages and books!

What happened to the traditional software version system? ;)

Maticus6241d ago

Turbine have some good ideas, it shows in the success of the game.

Cogo6241d ago

The book system fits better with the whole "Tolkienesque" feeling of the game...

How many people still play LotRO btw?

I'm very positive to the game, it's not an insult or anything =P

AndyA6241d ago

It's still pretty popular afaik.

Malfurion6241d ago

I heard LOTRO was the 2nd most popular MMO out there at the moment, looks like it's doing well ^ ^

Leord6241d ago

It's fantasy, and families can play it... Same as WoW.

Cogo6241d ago

Speaking of family entertainment: I think it would be a terrible shame if Conan failed...

It's not looking good. I tried the free trial last week though and I enjoyed it - but not enough to sign up for another subscription besides my WoW one.

If I'd ever play another MMO alongside WoW it would have to be a free to play one like Runes of Magic or something.

I love LOTRO!!!

I hope the rumours end being true that Turbine is working on a console version of LOTRO!!!

Maticus6241d ago

I think they are finding it a lot harder than they thought originally. The only MMO that I know of who has pulled that off is FFXI.

Fyzzu6241d ago

Doesn't seem like that major a patch. Still, I daresay the LotRO players will love it.

Now this makes me feel old! I remember playing the beta while I worked at Gamestop. I honestly didn't even know this game was still online! A quick search showed that it's even F2P now, so I may check it out for nostalgia's sake.

I only subbed at launch for 1-2 months bc I was already caught up in WoW at the time. I love the LotR universe though and would like to see how it's being handled these days.

Middle-earth Enterprises sends cease-and-desist letter to LOTRO rogue server project

From MMORPG: "Some Lord of the Rings Online players may have been aware of an unofficial rogue server project that was set to release this month called Echoes of Angmar. Aiming to create a true vanilla version of LOTRO, trait lines and map-less Old Forest and all, the server ran the real risk of drawing legal ire down on its head because of the unlicensed use of a very much still-operating and still-in-development MMO.

PLAY LOTRO FOR FREEAnd in fact, the Echoes of Angmar’s team received a cease-and-desist letter from Middle-earth Enterprises today demanding the cessation of all work and operation: “It is thus with a heavy heart that we must ask that you immediately cease all of your unauthorized use of Echoes of Angmar, and all other Tolkien-related IP on all platforms.”
