I own +-45-50 360 games and 10 PS3 games,so in all fairness,I would have more crashes on my 360 than ps3.but,I must admit,GTA4,DOA4 and a few other games use to freeze or crash my 360,but after the NXE update,its never happend.I had a few crashes with Oblivion on PS3,but from what Ive read,thats more a software problem.but,what was annoying,was when my Ps3 freezes when I try copying some family holiday pics from my pc through the ps3 via cable.It just says copying. . . . . . . ,and stays there.annoying.any of you know whats up with that?lol if its me causing it by not copying the right way or something.

i too also experience a lot of software issues while playing games on xbox 360. i experienced lag, slowdowns and glitches in perfect dark 0. i experienced a lot of freezing issues in oblivion e.s 4. gears of war had a lot of slowdowns, glitches and lag. gears of war 2 came out and have a lot of lag, slowdowns and glitches . even after 3 patches for gears of war 2, it still suffers from a lot of lag, slowdowns and glitches. mass effect had glitches and slowdowns, forza 2 suffered from lag, and slowdowns. s.o.4 suffers from a lot of freezing issues and ive been talking about that since day one.

i myself have always wondered why a lot of xbox 360 games are plagued with problem . gears 2 is my fav game on the xbox 360 and its online is broken because of the excessive lagging and glitching issue. i play killzone 2, resistance 2 , socom confrontation, gt 5 prologue, motorstorm 2 a lot and none of those games have any sort of issues . the software on the ps3 is definitely more stable than that of the xbox 360 .

I've played every game he mentions, with Star Ocean being the only exception (it has not been released here) and I've never experienced the problems he's complaining about. Lost Odyssey had some slow texture streaming, but that's typical of all Unreal Engine games (360 or PS3, doesn't seem to matter). I got my 360 at the end of summer 2007 as well (it was September IIRC).

I've also not had a single issue with any of my PS3 games, either, but I have heard reports of both consoles crashing on occasion. I don't think it's the console itself, I think it's just typical bugs in the games, bugs that would be the same on either system.

That is BS. Failure rate of the RROD is higher than 50%. Probably close to 90%. Almost everyone I know with a 360 suffered through the RROD.

BluRay dying after 3 weeks?

The first system update I had around november 2008 ended in a PS3 freezing? I had to hardboot it 10 times before it got to life again. Untill the BluRay diode died.

So software or hardware the PS3 isn't doing too good either. Have never seen a console dying that fast.

lol tbh the only problems ive ever got with my PS3 is crashing and sometimes the in game XMB goes slow and stuff, other then that i havent had any problems, oh and ive had my ps3 since UK launch.

my 360 on the other hand crashed atleast once every hour lol and i always got that Game DVD error :( dunno if MS ever fixed those problems coz ive sold my 360

but both consoles have software problems lol just gotta deal with it.

if this were a which console has the best hardware then this would be all one sided, the about of 360s that have RROD compared to the ps3s which have YLOD is amazing.

my ps3 broke after a year i rang sony got a FREE replacement 2 days later free of charge do MS do that NOOOOO you have to wait months before you get another back thats why 360's are dirt cheap

it makes we laugh when an ignorant person like you doesnt want to admit the truth about their console of choice . its a flipping console that is made of plastic. dont be hurt because you cant afford something or because your console of choice have a failure rate of 33%. it uses dvd 9 discs. ff13 will be on more than 5 discs on the xbox 360 . you have to pay for xbl service which is laggy. gears 1 is laggy , and glitchy. gears 2 is laggy and glitchy. mass effect is glitchy . s.o 4 slowsdown a lot and freezes a lot. the xbl party system is sort of broken because it drops people from the party every 10-20 minutes. xbox 360 doesnt have a game that looks better than a 2007 ps3 exclusive game called uncharted. xbox 360 lacks a wifi connection adapter, blu ray drive, web browser, hdmi 1.3, 3d social network, free online, which all comes standard when you buy a ps3.i spoke about facts there, not opinions. you can disagree all you want with other people but you know you are dying inside because its all true. go cry yourself to sleep.lol.

Well, I'm very happy with my PS3.

It has games I'm interested in and the hardware is reliable. The only minor problems I had with my PS3 is when Uncharted froze on me once and my PS3 overheated when I was playing Godhand so it shut down. Other than that, it works well enough for me. :)

Congratulations Sony, people would rather deal with the hardware problems of the 360 than deal with the disappointment of owning a PS3 instead of a 360. It really is a testament of two things.

1.When the 360 is working it is an incredible machine with a phenomenal software library

2.Working or not the PS3 is mediocre.

Sorry, but the facts are the facts. Its not like Sony is some startup company in the console business. Not only are they not new, but they have nearly a 6 or 7 year headstart on MS in the industry, because the 360 is only MS's second console, and the PS3 is Sony's 3rd. Oh and did I mention Sony dominated the industry with those previous two consoles?

Sorry, but with that type of brand recognition something is drastically wrong with Sony or drastically right with the competition or what is probably most likely a combination of both.

I'm mixed, I don't recall having these issues on my consoles very often but from that site like that...like Torrence Davis always says "A name like that will only get you so far".

PS3 fans would not admit if you did have problems. Those of you who do are stand up individuals, because I know for a fact that PS3 is not as perfect as some of you tools would have everyone to believe.

Like I said b4, for the most part MS is better with the software side of things, while sony is better with hardware. Some of the problems we see with PS3 however are hard to tell if they are hardware or software.

PS3 does overall have more glitches, mostly software and small but still annoying glitches.
While 360 has fewer glitches, but the hardware issues it does have are huge inconveniences.

Nintendo Wii is by far the best put together system.

i thought we were discussing reliability here.. as a wii fanboy, i can brag that the wii is kicking the crapbox ass in terms of sales. and, this year, in terms of software too.. wii fit beat gaylo 3.. LOL

the ps3 hardware is state of the art, 1% failure rate, and blu-ray drive is amazing. my wii can't even play dvd. xbots have hddvd but it's dead and the dvd drive is loud and obsolete.

us with GREAT/AWESOME games!!!! both systems have really bad @$$ exclusives and both provide very solid multiplatform releases, obviously!

But I must say Im on my 6th 360, because of multiple problems. After my 4th, I got tired of waiting for my system returns through MS (even though I've never had problems with their service, unlike stories I've heard/some expierences I've heard my friends had). So my 5th I bought new at Best Buy (core to put my 20gig HD on) and got a 2 year warranty on it so I could do in-store exchanges and it's not that far from my house. Well my 5th was a Jasper, a week in... CRAP'd out!!! I was infuriated as I heard it was going to be the end of all the RROD problems. Im now on number 6 (not a Jasper) and it's running funky since the latest update. Not letting me do parties, group chats, play co-op, etc.. I bet it'll die soon too. But Im covered until April of next year. So until then I will deal with this s#!t, but after... Im just staying PS3 and Wii.

Now my 60 gig PS3 which I didn't get right at launch, I got it at the $100 price drop. I've recently been having troubles with it. I cannot connect a bluetooth headset at all. It won't sync up for the life of it, it's really making me mad. I never played team deathmatches in any game or whatever. But with KZ2 I need it cause you HAVE TO play in team units (I don't like it, but if that's the only way I can play it so be it). I have my headset left from when I owned Warhawk (traded it in cause it wasn't my cup of tea)... and that's the one that won't connect. The headset is becoming a deal breaker for any game released now pretty much. I keep getting ejected from games cause Im headset-less. It's really ruining my enjoyment of online. If that would be fixed, I'd be set with my PS3!!!

I bought MLB 09 The Show yesterday... and my god Im in love. Im not a huge sports fan. But the 2 sports games I've come to love are Fight Night Round 3 and 09 The Show. They both are truely amazing.

But I looked through the handbook for The Show and found it ironic that it promotes pretty much to HAVE the 60 gig model... to transfer data into the game perhaps?... anyone without a 60 gig possibly find this to kinda be giving them the shaft if they don't have a 60 gig model?. Im not stirring crap or anything, Im just curious if anyone caught that in the book!

Video game consoles are becoming like cellphones. The more we are making them do, the less reliable they are becoming. Thus why cellphone upgrade plans come so quick through carriers and console life spans are now going to vastly becoming shorter (Im personally think). Nintendos systems out last damn near any, because they aren't pushed to do too much, but in the end don't provide the expierence that us diehards are dying to have!

P.S. = They really need to release a patch for The Show. Friends and I were getting p!ssed last night with the base stealing in the game, they need to patch that up ASAP!!!!

Glitches and freezing will happen occasionally no matter what console you're playing. I've had the 360 almost since launch, and glitches and freezing have been minimal.

I will tip my hat to Sony and say that Sony has made a very well built machine in the PS3. I'm guessing they put it through the ringer to make sure it was reliable before they released it. Let's hope that MS learns from them and their own billion-dollar mistake of releasing a console before it's ready.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
