PSP2 coming before Christmas - confirmed

Pocket Gamer has got the scoop first-hand from an insider source that the PSP2 is in development and will be with us before Christmas 2009 - and it's new feature list (including a sliding touchscreen and dual analogue sticks) is set to give the iPhone a serious challenge.

Well in this crazy world where no one thought that the psp would be around to celebrate it's 2nd birthday it's possible, but for sony's own sake I hope they keep thier mouths shut, the cost down, and the games coming.

Hobgoblin6258d ago (Edited 6258d ago )

Amen to that, ba-rother. Couldn't have said it better.

"Although this hasn't been confirmed, our speculation is that Sony's initial plans for a small upgrade to a PSP 4000 model have since been accelerated by the success of the iPhone and arrival of Nintendo DSi."

title is wrong please amend it. psp4000 is not even confirmed - even the article says it has not been confirmed.

Hobgoblin6258d ago

It's not been confirmed that the PSP4000 development was stepped up, is what that paragraph is saying. That's what's believed to have happened. The source confirms the PSP2, though.

anh_duong6258d ago (Edited 6258d ago )

an inside source is not confirmation. an inside source is still classified as a rumor. even the article doesn't say confirmed (goodness sake the article even says "not confirmed") so how can you add confirmation. how can they release a new psp early when they can't even confirmed that development has been stepped up? this is just plain wrong. sorry to be pedantic but i think this title is misleading.

INehalemEXI6258d ago (Edited 6258d ago )

It looks like a rumor to me, those pics they are using are old too. They are mock ups from some dude that does not even work for sony, saw them over a year ago.

The only two advancements that "may come" tot he PSP will be a camera and a touch screen. The second being very doubtful, but probable. I also say they will get rid of the UMD slot and go all Digital Downloads. Can't say it will look any different though. All these rumors make me wonder though, why would they put out another PSP if the current one is selling well.

Face Palm6258d ago

I'm so sick of theses TINY little upgrades. Just release the fvcking PSP2!

I still have my original PSP and I refuse to pay $180 for a SLIGHTLY better screen or SLIGHTLY slimmer design.

STK0266258d ago

Right now, I can't see Sony dropping some kind of physical media for the PSP, may it be the PSP2 or the PSP-4000. Sony is still struggling at getting one PSOne classic a month on the PS Store, the UMD legacy is also coming very slow. Also, they still have the PS2/3 on the shelves, and making a new handhelds which would not use game retailers for most of it's games is like asking for your products to be put in the backstore.

Oh, and by the way Sony, if you're really going with a huge touchscreen, ask Apple on how to make a screen, the PSP's current one is easy to scratch, way too easy compared to the one of my iTouch, and I don't think buying a protective screen should be mandatory in this day and age.

this suppose to be a phone...

GCNSeanFoster6257d ago

Why do people on here approve stories with these misleading titles?

SaiyanFury6257d ago (Edited 6257d ago )

Agreed, with all. Enough with the damned rehashed models, just release a new console already and get it over with. I love my 1001 model PSPs, but I'm always open for a new console, not some dumb update that forces me to shell out another 200 dollars. And for the love of God, please don't try to hype it yourselves. We've seen how that always ends up...

fenix13006257d ago

I thought that this might be that ps cloud that was in the news a while back, but then I remembered that you would need an internet connection at all times so that wouldn't work. still it would be nice to see them utilizing Digital distribution for this.

AriesFury6257d ago

Well we all know, Sony can't do that. It's going to be pricey and don't expect to get what that mock PSP2 image that's been out for awhile will look like.

whoelse6257d ago (Edited 6257d ago )

If the new PSP has a slide touch screen with dual analogues, then Santa, this is my Christmas present sorted!

Hopefully Sony don't price it too high.

Kojima just set the graphic bar higher.

TheRealSpy6257d ago

will it work as a phone?

I mean don't get me wrong, i'm sure it'll be an improvement over the last psp update. but if it's not a phone, how are they in direct competition with one another?

bviperz6257d ago

Keep the games coming. And drop the price to $50 a game.
