Worms finally makes its PS3 debut

Gamer Limit writes: "Worms has finally crawled its way onto PSN, bringing along some significant improvements over the original Xbox 360 version.

If "additional retro-styled landscapes, a wide array of team voices, additional graphic features & effects, a much more responsive physics engine, 1080p support and four additional weapons including the much loved Holy Hand Grenade, Super Sheep and Concrete Donkey" seem to take your fancy, it might be time to log on to the store."

Yep grats to PS3 for that, now Xbox needs Lemmings.

syvergy6229d ago

This will be heaps of fun to play on PSN.

"Worms has finally crawled its way onto PSN, bringing along some significant improvements over the original Xbox 360 version.

^How many times have we heard the second part of that sentence?

Seems like anything released for the PS3 after the 360 gets "significant improvements".

Godmars2906229d ago (Edited 6229d ago )

Some improvements have to be made. Also as I understand it the 360 version was effected by the 360's DL limit cap. Like SF wold have if it wasn't high profile.

GameOn6229d ago (Edited 6229d ago )

The next installment of worms is coming to the arcade soon though.

You could be right in that this version comes to PSN later with added features but the feature set already sounds mighty impressive.

You are right...but that can't have anything to do with the fact that it missed the first launch by more than a year. I look at the improvements as the only justification for consumers to buy a game that has been on the market for quite sometime.

I wouldn't be proud about the fact that the PS3 gets games late, even if they do toss in a few extra options.

Pennywise6229d ago

jaidek, I didnt say I was proud. I dont care when it came out on the 360. My statement was, when games DO come to the ps3 that it is the definitive version.

Dont be proud to be a beta tester either, jaidek.

dragunrising6229d ago (Edited 6229d ago )

Beta tester? I think not. When did it matter "who" got the definitive version. Who exactly is going to buy a port of a game with zero enhancements? If you already purchased Worms from XBLA, there isn't much more to see. You can have fun playing your delayed Worms while 360 owners play Worms 2: Armageddon. If being a beta tester involves getting games on time/earlier, I don't mind.

With that said, I recently purchased Worms for the first time. I didn't understand what the big deal was until I got "hooked" so to speak. I was thinking about getting it for PS3 at first however a friend got it on 360 so I was compelled to get it on that platform. The new game on PSN is $12 for nearly the same experience as the XBLA version for $5. Price and friends trump extra bells and whistles. Can't get it all I guess.

@ InfectedDK- "better on PS3"- quite a general statement. When the PSN game is released a whole year after' it BETTER be better. Also, the point I was trying to make is that the price of entry for Worms on 360 is much cheaper for a similar experience. Sometimes it matters getting the superior version if the changes are major. This isn't the case however and multiplayer is still active on the XBLA version despite being a year old.

InfectedDK6229d ago

"Better on PS3" - I'm getting used to that.
The game is really addicting! Great game.
I already have 100% in trophies because I've played it a lot.

"XgameX has finally crawled its way onto PSN"

how many times do we see this after about a year on the 360?

From everything I seen people say on the forums it sounds like the multiplayer is full of problems mainly being the disconnects and you can only talk to one other person.

Unicron6229d ago

Indeed, i LOVE this game, but only two people per game can talk at a time. If 4 people have voicechat, it randomly swaps between 2 players at any given time. Very annoying, when a push to talk feature would have been fine. Disappointing to say the least, because I love this game and purchased it immediately.

Kal11386229d ago

The 360 is getting another Worms soon and it'll have even more features than this PSN version.

Sheddi6229d ago

And then what? Do u win anything?

Cenobia6229d ago

Well, that seemed overly defensive.

It's just worms dude. Take a deep breath and relax.

Kal11386229d ago (Edited 6229d ago )

I was just saying. It IS just worms. That's why I added the "So?". I also have both a 360 and a PS3 (Gamertag and PSN id are the same as my name here) so, like I said, I didn't mean it that way.

Looking Back to 1995 and the unkillable genius of Worms

Dave writes: "Being a bit of an old-timer, I remember the launch of Worms. As an owner of an Atari ST, I’d read all of the Amiga magazines simply because games would hit the Amiga first, and our team would get them in due course. There’d be a tinge of envy as I’d make a wishlist of the games to get when they arrived on the ST, and I remember Worms being one of them."

Team 17’s “Worms Collection 1” is coming to the Evercade console in May 2021

"Team 17 and Evercade are today very proud and excited to announce that the "Worms Collection 1” pack (which includes "Worms", "Worms Armageddon", and "Worms Blast") is coming to the Evercade console in May 2021" - Jonas Ek, TGG.

TGG_overlord1985d ago

Nice =) I hope that you will enjoy the collection once you get it ;)

ScootaKuH1985d ago

It looks great although it does have one fundamental flaw - the Evercade is a single player machine and the Worms games are best played in multiplayer.

Having said that, I guess as players tend it in turns you'd just pass the machine around each player

I'm surprised Ratchet & Clank wasn't on the list. Late Saint's Row games, with more imaginative weapons like the Shark gun and the armchair with guns would fit on a part two list as well

NomadsReviews2029d ago

I'm not familiar with Ratchet and Clank (not my sort of game) but I'll add it to the list for part two along with Saint's Row. Thanks for the suggestions :-)

phoenixwing2028d ago

look up resistance fall of man from insomniac as well. there were some interesting weapons for that too

P_Bomb2028d ago (Edited 2028d ago )

@phoenix
Resistance series 100%. Especially the secondary fires. Auger shields, Bullseye tags, Magnum detonator, Rossmore incindiary, then throw a Hedgehog for good measure. By the time I got to R3 they were onto Atomizers and Mutators. Armory speaks for itself.

FreeckyCake2028d ago

Does the unicorn weapon from Red Faction: Armageddon counts?

danglyparts2028d ago

Cerebral Bore from Turok 2. Farsight from Perfect Dark.

NomadsReviews2028d ago

Thank you to everyone for your excellent suggestions. They have all been added to the list for part two which should be published by the end of the month :-)
