Star Fox Creator Not Interested in Developing Star Fox Wii

After interviewing Q Games President Dylan Cuthbert about PixelJunk Eden, G4tv.com hit him up on some questions with a franchise he helped create for Nintendo – Star Fox. As most Star Fox fans would agree, there were few Star Fox titles worth playing: Star Fox, Star Fox 64, and Star Fox Command. Not surprisingly, Cuthbert was involved in the creation of all three.

Since the release of Star Fox Command on the Nintendo DS, there hasn't been a Star Fox title for quite a while. Considering the fact that there hasn't been a Star Fox title released on the Wii so far, most would believe that this year will be the year where Fox McCloud will climb into his Arwing for his first Wii Star Fox voyage.

So will Cuthbert and Q Games be at the helm? Not likely….

infamous_276247d ago

Thats strange. The series seems like it was built in mind for some sort of motion control...

Smacktard6247d ago

Yeah, it'd definitely have the best control yet, by far. It'd make the viewpoint a lot easier to take advantage of. I'm sure in comparison, the N64 version would feel awkward.

qface646247d ago

gosh darn these diva developers they need to take their asses to work like their payed for i want me star fox :[

phosphor1126247d ago

That would be perfect. Flower had the best flight-motion controls I have played. Oh yeah, Warhawk was also awesome. I think he's right though, Miyamoto making Fox get out of the tank is a bad idea. Don't fix it if its broken.

phosphor1126247d ago

I said tank..I meant Jet..as in the Arwing (I also spelled it as "R Wing" when I was a youngin xD)

gaffyh6246d ago

I'm guessing Q Games has had so much success with PSN titles that they don't want to risk a venture on to the Wii. Although I'm guessing that if they did make Star Fox Wii they may actually be one of the few 3rd party companies that sells A LOT of games.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a very avid Star Fox fan.

Come on, can't he just use the Classic Controller or GameCube Controller!!

Just imagine online modes in the game! 32 players!!

If they announce a new one, they BETTER not do another walk and shoot game. Those controls were terrible, expecially for the Gatling Gun.

hatchimatchi6247d ago

32 player online for a nintendo game.

i don't think that will ever happen.

look at punch out, 13 characters, only one is new.

Nintendo doesn't like to rattle the cage too much with their IP's

SinnedNogara6247d ago

It's not impossible. Medal of Honor, even though a EA game, proved that it is possible. However, I do see your point. And Punch-Out is kind of disappointing, not just the characters, but the fact there is NO ONLINE FUNCTIONALITY! WTF NINTENDO!!

Maybe at least 12 players! And Q Games doesn't have to make it, Nintendo can take it over at any time and have a good shooter developer like HVS or Konami (Gradius, Life Force, etc.)

Marquis_de_Sade6245d ago

I'm not surprised, the last Star Fox game on Gamecube was technically very good, I guess they didn't want to develop a game on such dated hardware again.

Kushan6247d ago

I haven't played a decent starfox game since the N64 days.

New 'classic style' Star Fox game to launch this summer claim multiple sources

Nintendo is planning to revive Star Fox with a new game this summer according to an insider, alongside Pikmin 4: Switch 2 Edition and Splatoon Raiders.

MayorPauline44d ago

Nate the Hate dropping bombs. He shot his recent video this past Wednesday and Nintendo teases Star Fox in Galaxy soon after. At this point hes the source of the leaks. He's an Nintendo employee working psy ops for them. 😆

Cacabunga42d ago

The last good Star Fox was the one on gamecube

Redgrave42d ago

There were two, of which I assume yoi refer to Assault and not Adventures.

DarXyde42d ago

I liked both of them. Starfox Adventures was a fun game, just not a particularly good Starfox game. On its own, if it stayed Dinosaur Planet, I think it would be much better received. Assault was awesome. Loved multiplayer on that game.

Starfox Adventures had a really special OST in some spots, too. Thorntail Hollow was such a phenomenal score. It was like this beautiful mix of African and Celtic sounds. Like Zulu vocals over something Enya was working on.

MrCrimson42d ago

I must've missed a good star fox game on the gamecube - the last good one I remember is Star Fox 64- which - imo holds up well to this day..

darthv7242d ago

I honestly did not mind Zero... it deserves a second chance on the NS like many other Wii-U titles received.

All I ask for is plenty of content/stages and a good challenge, if it's a cakewalk I would be disappointed.

repsahj43d ago

I really want a sequel to Star Fox Adventures, but a classic-style Star Fox is also welcome.

Elda43d ago

Hopefully it's a classic Star Fox like the original but of course with better graphics & a bigger game.

Star Fox, a Thirty Year Reunion

WTMG's Leo Faria: "I respect the hell out of Star Fox for what it was setting out to do in 1993. You gotta love how feisty Nintendo was being, proving the naysayers wrong with their whole “bit wars” schtick. That doesn’t mean I have to like this game… as a game. It’s just not very good. It was a proof of concept, a big fat tech demo. If anything, we ended up getting Star Fox 64, one of the best games of all time (don’t at me) four years later, so that alone is enough to validate the original Star Fox‘s existence. It also marked the beginning of arguably Nintendo’s most neglected and disrespected franchise alongside F-Zero. One I sure hope won’t die with that disgraceful Wii U title as its swan song, its last hoorah. Happy anniversary, you weird, ugly, barely polygonal monstrosity. At the end of the day, we still love you."

I would love it if Nintendo finally did a Chorus type Star Fox game at this point. I think with their characters and their "Nintendo Appeal" - whatever that is - they could bring back Star Fox as a main franchise.

The Chorus game design, or even a Crimson Skies style to a lesser extent, would make for a great template to get Star Fox up and running again and get the franchise out of the rut it's suffering from.

Sure, they can go back to the SNES/N64 era gameplay but...really? Meh. Maybe they can use that corridor gameplay style for a smaller game, released between the big releases, or as Boss Levels at the end of each free roaming chapter for that added "Cinematic Flair".

Star Fox certainly deserves better.

Godmars2901141d ago

Don't you mean a No Man Sky, only not really. Bit more scripted with an open world after game just in the Lylat system.

SimpleSlave1141d ago

No. The game Chorus is the perfect way to bring Star Fox out of the old ways and into the new while still retaining the charm of the series. No need to bloat the game design with a No Man Sky type of open world. That would be counterproductive and just too much of a departure for the series. We'll have another Dinosaur Planet/Star Fox Adventure in our hands and tank the series once again. No thanks.
.
Go watch a walkthrough of Chorus. That's a design Nintendo could excel at with this franchise while keeping the charm and concept close to the series origins but also moving it forward enough that it can flourish in a bigger scale. It's perfect.

"It’s just not very good."

You wash that filthy mouth!

--It really was something you had to be there for and experience during the early 90's, I understand haha
