BioWare Conquers Elevator Problem For 'Mass Effect 2'

Tracey John from MTV Multiplayer writes:

When I spoke to BioWare's Ray Muzyka about the things they're fixing in Mass Effect 2, he had said that the developers were "reducing the elevator speed times." We think he meant reducing load times; those elevator rides in Mass Effect couldn't get any longer.

To clarify, we followed up with BioWare, and Casey Hudson, executive director of Mass Effect 2 said this to MTV Multiplayer:

"We have a completely new system to handle transitions between areas that speeds the load times and turns the loads themselves into part of the game experience. It's one of many points of feedback we've heard and directly responded to in enhancing the gameplay in 'Mass Effect 2.'"

edit: lighten up disagreers it was a joke lol. I personally purchased a 360 just for Mass Effect and Crackdown.

KingKionic 6259d ago

well those problems will be fixed when game comes out.

CaseyRyback_CPO6259d ago

Unreal Engine for you. Cutting edge technology.

Tony P6259d ago

Good news. It kind of defeats the point if the elevator rides travel long enough to break immersion.

PtRoLLFacE6259d ago

ummm that number fits perfect on gears of war 2 but not on mass effect lol but am glad they fixing it

NewZealander6259d ago

i agree.

i was going to buy mass effect but after a friend of mine got his copy early and bought it over to show me i changed my mind.

it could be the best game ever but the elevators, shocking framerate, screen tear and other issues the game had made me forget about buying it, its the most buggy game ive ever seen.

Lord Vader6258d ago

All games have to load a map from time to time, especially RPGs.

And Mass Effect is the best RPG this Gen hands down.

BIOWARE RULEZ.

No Way6258d ago

Well, than, sir, you are missing out on an excellent game..
The game itself will make you forget about those "problems."

But, anyway..
The elevator rides didn't bother me, to much, especially when there was a news broadcast playing during the ride.
However, when the news broadcasts weren't playin, they did get a bit tedious.

April Fool's!! The elevator is 3x as long!

JK- I never had a problem with the elevator, but thats good news to hear.

No Way6258d ago

Same here, the elevator rides weren't really a problem to me..

Except, while in the Citadel, that long ass ride that takes you to your ship (whats the ship called, again??), I'd get lost and take that elevator up and then hafta take it back down, again. Geez! Lol.

ChampIDC6259d ago

The elevators never particularly bothered me, but any improvements are welcome.

No Way6258d ago

Any improvement is always welcome. :)

My elevator problem was that my game saves got corrupted, and when I load either of my saves I start in an elevator and it just freezes. The auto save took over at the same time as my manual one, so both are screwed. I had put so many hours into the game and now can't do anything. At this point there is no way that I want to start all over again. This is extremely frustrating because I really enjoyed the game. All in all, I'd say that I would buy the new one still though.

No Way6258d ago

I'd start over. ;)

I've started over and played a new game, a few times now.
And, still loved it just as much as the first time. :D

Matt026258d ago

I'm sure you're right, and that I'd enjoy it again, but it's a game that takes so much time and I really don't have it. It was just annoying to have been fairly close to the end, and now not be able to move on at all. I'm sure that I'll start over at some point, I guess it would only make sense to finish it before the new one comes out. Good to hear that it was still enjoyable again for you. Thanks for the input.

Fade_Walker6259d ago

The elevators never really bothered me too much…at least they had elevator music…

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast528d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine528d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast528d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman528d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast527d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave776d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan776d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
