Tough times ahead for Nvidia?

TechRadar says: Is graphics specialist Nvidia in mortal danger? That's a question we've been increasingly pondering in recent months.

The case for the prosecution goes something like this. Pretty much every part of Nvidia's business is either under immense pressure or at risk of evaporating altogether. Take the company's PC chipsets. With Core i7 Intel has started to shift towards producing processors with more and more features integrated into the CPU itself.

Here's why Nvidia could be battling for its very survival...

I always preferred ATi. What about you guys? I have an NVidia card on my laptop but my gaming PC carries ATi.

Montrealien6281d ago

I have always went both ways. I would get an Ati card, then an Nvidia card, then an ATI, ect. Atm I have a BFG 9800gtx+ which I replaced my old ati 1650pro with. Mind you, my first ever gpu was a Voodoo.

I always preferred Nvidia. My uncle works at Nvidia and he mentioned the CUDA project is starting to take off and has great potential....

I like them both equally. Competition is always good for the consumer. I currently have an ati4850 in my pc and an nvidia 8400 in my laptop.

But I hope Nvidia's GP-GPU goes some where, my GTX 280 is a monster when it comes to General Processing. It encodes videos 100x faster then my 3.9GHZ E8400.

Highatus6281d ago

Hmmm, Could just be me but i always see Nvidia with Intel and Ati with AMD. If the story is correct though i could see a buyout or merger with the two (nvidia + intel) Also, The Geforce Mobos are pretty good too.

Because they have the best drivers, ALL games run best on nVidia cards, and every year they present something new like CUDA, hardware physx, 3d gaming etc. and so my money is on them.

And with my 3-way SLI (3x285GTX) i ate both Crysis games for breakfast something you can't do with ati.

nnotdead6281d ago

i have a computer with Athlon 64 x2 6000+, hd4850, and 4GB of ram. i can run Crysis Warhead on max with 30-40 fps. im using my HD tv so its running at 720p. my whole rig cost about as much as two of your GPUs.

SpartanGR6281d ago (Edited 6281d ago )

Nice rig you have there but i finished both Crysis with everything max at 1920x1200, 4xAA, 16AF, sync/on, 60-steady/min-frames.

My only problem remains the fact, that i can't find any other game to challenge my rig.

Empire:Total War eh? hmm yes but from what i've read so far ETW is a bugfest.
War in Conflict (dx10) is another contender though.

TheIneffableBob6281d ago

World in Conflict is actually a really solid game now. It's had like 8 patches so far.

Empire: Total War is getting a patch soon which should fix a lot of bugs.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing35d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9235d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit35d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing35d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9235d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
