Making the Easy Button a Wee Bit Easier to Push

Casual Gamers need an "Easy" button. Much like the beginning levels of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, in which gamers got to use the big, bad, Darth Vader before getting to play the womanly Apprentice, there should be the option to run amuck in god mode throughout the entirety of the game. It's an injustice to no one if people decide that they want to play Mass Effect 2 by starting out with a tricked out Commander Shepherd from the start, or going into Bioshock 2 with every plasmid unlocked from the start. What do you think?

Developers shouldn't assume that people have any skill in gaming. They should allow for new gamers to have just as an enjoyable experience

Statix6260d ago (Edited 6260d ago )

The problem is when developers start focusing too much on finetuning a game for a mass unskilled audience, and don't pay the same amount of attention balancing a game's harder settings for the more hardcore gamers who want and enjoy an extreme amount of challenge. Over the years, I've noticed an inverse correlation between the growth of the popularity in videogames as an entertainment medium and the overall challenge of action games, even on the hardest difficulty settings. Or maybe it's just in my mind, as my experience playing games has grown and I've become more adept at best tackling these games that all play somewhat similarly.

Hmmm Learing to get good is part of the fun tho, and not everyone realises that.

Maybe the argument should be a more detailed description of exsactly what easy, medium and hard entails? Difficulty standardization anyone?

More easy-automatic modes need to be implemented if you die too much, like Devil May Cry.

Menchi6260d ago

I don't think automatic difficulty adjustments should be included, or at least, I wouldn't like them.

There's times I've struggled with a section of a game, and really had to try very very hard to get past it, and times like that, it can be frustrating as hell dying over and over again.

However, I would probably end up starting a new file if I ever automatically got knocked down to an easier mode, as I really like working through the tough bits myself, and not have it eventually handed to me

If it were optional, and you could refuse the lowered difficulty, then yea, but automatic would just annoy me.
