Free overshadows any feature XBL can bring out. Sad part is, the PSN does more at the same time of being free. PSN FTW.

PSN wins. Since where it says bang for your buck, that means features per dollar. So if live has 50 features for 50 dollars, that is 1 feature per dollar. If psn has 40 features per dollar, that is 40 divided by zero which is infinity!!! Or undefined but lets say infinity.

PS3 owners always say that xbox users cant afford a PS3 for 399 USD.
But they also say that PSN is ONLY better because its free!? lol
SO if SOny would take some money from you, you would sell your PS3 on ebay right??

I'll say it again:

Xbox live and PSN - actual online PLAY, both are equal in stability. Sure each have their own strengths - but i wouldn't put one over the other in that part.

But for things like, integration, depth of service and overall features Live is better - it is hard to deny that.

Sure PSN keeps getting these updates which are great, i love them - but almost all the new features that come feel like they have just been stuck on, unlike Live where everything has been there from the start so everything works with everything else really well.

I always think that will be microsofts selling feature on all their consoles, sony will make lots of improvements on their consoles in terms of online - they will improve and will catch up to microsoft, but i always think microsoft will have that edge.

Sony has the great first and second party games (For me, not saying they have the best games hands down, just the ones i prefer) and microsoft has the great online service.

as far as i can tell, all your getting extra out of paying for XBL is more advanced communication features... that's weak, also considering the PS3 has more impressive software to play online (like Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and the upcoming MAG), better servers and other features like a web browser, Home and LWP

and considering Sony is constantly adding new features to the PSN with FW updates, it just seems stupid paying for XBL... i dunno, i know i won't when i get a 360

Xbox's advantage is, its uniformity, all games work the same across the board when it comes to features....

That is seemless makes me feel comfortable and its just feels like they have the infrastructure down better

wow this comparison is just rubbish i have all platforms and the PSN is a glorified text massaging service with home which is useless. i don't want buy a console to launch a service just to buy crap and talk to some that will get me band for saying hello

if ms relase an online only game like wahawk, people who cant pay for gold cant use it,

the servers and stuff there using cost nowhere near the amount there charging.
if 20 million people have a gold account at say 5 dollars a month thats 100 million a month, 1.2billion a year, and about 8billion over the life of the console, do you really think maintance and servers them selves cost anywhere near that amount

Lame. The PSN has less demos and lacks seemless chat. I'm a PS3 fan and I freely admit that right now XBL is better. If we were going to do PSN Games vs. XBLA games then PSN would be the win hands down.

It really doesn't seem justified to charge for live anymore, they get enough from advertisers, plus if it was free they'd make more money because you'd have more ppl to buy movies, buy online add ons(map packs etc) There $50 "Gold" membership is a bad deal all around, there's 17 million outta 30 that have it so that's 13 million ppl who AREN'T buying the extra's. Would those ppl spend more than $4 a month on movies add ons etc? prob they'd make more money if it were free, they are blinded by greed

They both are great. If your playing a XBOX 360 use Live. If your using a PS3 then use PSN.

if that 2.70 update turns out to be true then psn will truly be better than xbox live. psn is almost better all it needs is cross game chatting which that new update brings

you have to have something worth the price and PSN doesn't have much of that worthiness at all. If they would just get those PS2 and PSOne games on the network, it would be a HELL of a lot better by a long shot.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
