Top 10: Disappointing Sequels

Every time we get a brand new franchise that we love, we pray to the Gods of Gaming that they don't cock up the inevitable sequel. This isn't to say that the sequels are bad games, they just pale in comparison to what came before. Occasionally we'll get games that stand tall over their predecessors, like Street Fighter II or Soul Calibur 2. But more often than not we're given a game that will disappoint us from start to finish, simply because we can't help but compare it to the previous games in the series (like Halo 3). This is Gamer Limit's Top 10 Disappointing Sequels.

Wow. Fable II; talk about a terrible game. Also I agree that Halo 3, like the article said, wasn't a bad game at all; it just wasn't as fun as Halo 1 and 2 were.

StephanieBBB6273d ago

"It just wasn't as fun as Halo 1 and 2 where"

Halo 2 sucked IMHO. Halo 1 is the one and only!

Cajun Chicken6273d ago

I loved the original Halo. 3 was personally better than 2 though.

Dmitry Orlov6273d ago

i love the story of Halo 2. but it's so long - just like DMC4... or even longer.

PS3istheshit6272d ago

say what you want about halo but dont talk $h!t about super mario sunshine lol
seriously tho this list sucks
i was thinking they would diss bad games
you know some next gen games
but super mario sunshine was phenomenol
it was so unique and colorful that i couldnt stop playing it
i got my gamecube wen i was 8 years old and it was the best system i ever bought
cuz it had so many E rated games and mario was the best thing back then
now games are a little F - ed up cuz of all the graphics whores
i swear i dont really care about graphics anymore
b4 i was suprised but killzone 2 went way too far that it would be hard for any other game to compete
i wish they would focus on making games really long instead of really good graphics
you can only look at a game for so long
but gameplay is unforgettable
I will go crazy if another Jak and Daxter game is made
Hey Insomniac, do it, just do it, do it now

thats_just_prime6272d ago

wonder why no mgs 3 or 4. Also wheres kz2 ?

Marquis_de_Sade6272d ago

Thats just prime, probably because this guy, while clearly having a strange taste in games, isn't a raving loony fanboy.

Fable II wasn't THAT bad, it was a let down though. Wow; every Crash game past 2 was a disappointment! Great article. How about Killzone 2? LOL.

GWAVE6273d ago

Fable II was bad. It was full of glitches, boring quests, and a TERRIBLE ending. Plus, the whole promise of "industry-changing co-op" (according to Molyneux) ended up being complete BS.

With that said, the article does seem to be fishing for hits. Fable II, Halo 3, and Smash Bros Brawl were all mega-hyped games released in the last two years. Why was Brawl disappointing? I'm not a Brawl fan by any means, but I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Why was Halo 3 disappointing? Okay, I gave up on the storyline after Halo 2's crappy campaign, but Halo hasn't ever REALLY been about story. It's about multiplayer.

chrisjc6273d ago

Personally, I'd say Brawl was disappointing because it wasn't competitive. All the advanced techniques from Melee were taken out, and all of the characters were balanced.

Brawl tournaments are a joke/don't exist. 100% of the disappointment lies in the hardcore community. Melee tourneys still exist to this day because of how advanced that game was.

ZombieNinjaPanda6273d ago

GWAVE

Comparing Brawl to Melee, and the original Super Smash Bros, you can easily tell the difference

Brawl, it was like they added in characters just to fill in a roster, you couldn't do all these crazy moves people invented in Melee (fox shine technique?) and the game had a weight to it that just made it impossible to play efficiently.

The_Zeitgeist6273d ago

Metal Gear 2? That is just begging for hits

chrisjc6273d ago

How so? The author said it wasn't a bad game at all, it was just a huge disappointment from Solid Snake fans. Think about it - how shocked were you when you found out Snake had been replaced by a whiny, white haired emo kid?

GWAVE6273d ago

"how shocked were you when you found out Snake had been replaced by a whiny, white haired emo kid?"

Eh, that's a good question. I felt about the same amount of shock when my cool Final Fantasy protagonist was replaced by a whiny, white-haired emo kid named "Cloud Strife", yet everyone seems to praise that game...

Max Power6273d ago

cloud has blond hair not white...duh!

hay6273d ago

Dunno, I liked Raiden in MGS2. Well, it's my fav MGS from series, although not the best.

WengYong6272d ago

But anything after the original would be a very hard act to follow unfortunately. The original Solid Snake was a bad ass, MGS 1 was revolutionary, you couldn't just shoot your way through it. IMO MGS 1 is the greatest game ever made, just my opinion. And MGS 2 was a major disappointment for me. Raiden was not a good replacement for Snake, and unfortunately it really made me miss some of the good points of MGS 2 like the (at the time) cleve AI, and the awesome boss battles,

Good list, cant comment on Halo though. Never played it so I wouldnt know.

Haha, so many good games on this list. What the heck? :D

Andrew Wiggin6273d ago

Yeah this is mostly just wrong. A few correct titles, but mostly wrong.
