Firefox May Already Be Dead

PC World:

"This is an exciting time for Web browsers. Google Chrome is now available in alpha for Linux, and I downloaded it for Ubuntu. Despite the fact that I was running it on my rather underpowered Dell Mini 9, it started in the blink of an eye. Additionally, any JavaScript-heavy sites like Gmail or Google Docs were so responsive that it's almost unbelievable."

Ground control to you...

Firefox destroys everything else.

It's the safest...AND the fastest. Some would argue that Chrome is faster. It's not if you open the pipeline!!!

Viper76258d ago

Dunno about safest but atleast for me Opera is still faster than firefox and lighter at that. But firefox is superrior on "heavier pages" which opera can barely show.

Ridrick6257d ago

Im using it for 11 years now. Its still the best.

ianp6226257d ago

I dunno about Firefox 3 being the best, but Shiretoko (Firefox 3.5 Beta) is definitely up there. It scores even higher than Chrome on the Acid3 test, plus you get Adblocker. The speed is also faster. The only downside is that it doesn't create a new process for each tab.

Mikerra176257d ago

has been creeping of the default IE for a long time

phosphor1126257d ago

While Google Chrome is fast, I would not trade my functionality for speed. And no Firefox isn't and won't be dead for a while...

Nightly builds of firefox are already faster than anything google could dream of.

Rikitatsu6257d ago

lol are you kidding? just try the latest version of FF3 with Chrome beta... Chrome is not only faster, but its lighter on the memory.

Chrome 2 is coming and everyone says its a LOT faster.

FireFox is dead.

FlameBaitGod6257d ago

If fire fox is dead then the 360 has a good line up of exclusives this year. Oh wait it doesn't, good journalism bro. I guess any 1 who has fingers to type on a computer thinks he can be a journalist.

IdleLeeSiuLung6257d ago

I would add Chrome to the list of browsers I use, but don't trust them due to privacy concerns. I already don't like Gmail....

Mozilla is good, but I still prefer IE. Everything works in IE....

Raz6257d ago

Why does this feel like those cheap articles that try to get hits with headlines like "The PS3 is dead" or "Is this the end of the 360?"

Because it IS one of those cheap articles.

indysurfn6257d ago

Firefox is the best. I like Chrome. But it does not work with too many sites. If I want to go to most any of my favorite tv channels I have to switch over to Firefox or IE. Firefox seems to work with everything plus is much faster than IE and does not lock up every time you look up. Firefox rarlely crashes, and if it does it does not take a long time to kill it.

dukajoe6257d ago

News Flash--
there is no no-script, privacy controls. Chrome reports every url you type into the address bar. Wait, excuse me, that is not true. Chrome reports every partial url you type into chrome into google. With chrome, google's motto of don't be evil is sort of a joke. I will never use chrome, NEVER NEVER NEVER

The community, tools, add ons... nothing comes close to Firefox. Did you know Google tracks your searches? Firefox has an add-on for that. Like a different theme, there's hundreds. I don't know, the customization to make every user experience unique is pretty amazing. Chrome might be fast, but that's all it is.

LeonSKennedy4Life6258d ago

Add-ons make it the best and most secure.

I have a Cubs theme on here...giving me play-by-play stats, local weather on the bottom-right, zoom features that put OSX to shame, mouse shortcuts that play like a mini-game, ghost browsing (move the pointer out of the window and it all disappears), and Cooliris...the BEST pic searching ever...especially in 3D!!! I love Firefox!

Arkham6257d ago

I agree with you about the community and add-on advantages.

It's my collection of now-indispensable add-ons that prevent me from going the Chrome route. I love speed and efficiency, but FF isn't exactly a turtle in the speed department. Sure, comparatively Chrome might best it in a lot of areas on that front, but until Chrome can match all my add-on needs--or better yet, support actual FF add-ons--I'm sticking with FF.

spvn6257d ago

There was actually an article awhile back somewhere on the net about Chrome's terms and conditions. If my memory serves me right, and something this important is hard to forget, Google apparently keeps track of your ENTIRE browsing history through Chrome. I know this sounds completely ridiculous, but that's what I recall.

Don't worry TOO much though, it doesn't record your username and passwords and stuff like that, just your browsing history (ie. the sites you visit). But still, it's the biggest reason why I don't bother with Chrome.

Oh, that AND the lack of plugins and addons. :)

Viper76258d ago

Guess I need to wait for more updates as my hardy heron doesnt manage to start the alpha version :( but well its still alpha hopefully it will be updated soon to version that supports my settings.

trgz6258d ago

What about all my lovely add-ins, where are they in Chrome?

Dogswithguns6258d ago

I hve tried everything else Chrome, Safari. Im always back to Firefox, nothing's seem to hold as good as Firefox in the end.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio9d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing8d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit8d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing8d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster928d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
