Oh nice, a Microsoft exec just started another flame war with PS3 folks

Crunchgear: I swear to God, sometimes I think Microsoft and Sony allow their executives to be interviewed simply to catalyze message board flame wars (and subsequent CrunchGear posts). Take this latest salvo from Microsoft, which says that the Sony brand (presumably PS3, PS2 and PSP) is "hemorrhaging" at retail. Evidence? Xbox 360 sales just showed a 53 percent year-over-year growth; PS2 sales are down 62 percent from last year (but doesn't everyone on planet Earth already have a PS2?); and consumers see Xbox 360 as a better value, what with the Arcade SKU starting at $199.

I can't imagine too many people arguing that the PS3 has had an amazing run thus far, but it's not as if you'll have buyer's remorse the minute you crack open the box. You've got some of the same great games as the Xbox 360 does-Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5 being two recently released examples-and a handful of decent exclusives like Killzone 2 (even if it's a bit simple, as some would argue). Look, some covert, secret police could round up All Video Game Systems Ever and I wouldn't bat an eyelid, but these silly "my system is better than yours" is tremendously pointless. Be smarter than that, readers.

Crunchgear has great articles and speaks truth.

commodore646273d ago

well, no.

I struggle to find the point the author is trying to make.
It just seems he's pissed at MS for harping its own success.

Wtf is MS supposed to do?
Talk itself down?
Would that keep him happy?

I am sick of these pointless blogs by disgruntled fanboys-in-disguise.
It's just waffle.

lord_of_balrogs6274d ago

Good article. Both parties are guilty. They should talk about why the consumer should choose them, not trash the competition.

Aaron Greenterd6273d ago

The only person who has been talking trash is me.

Sony learned from the early days of the ps3 that they cannot come off arrogant and c0cky, because nothing is guaranteed.

Meanwhile, I take every opportunity to set a bad example for my followers on how to act, how to speak, how to spin, manipulate facts, and use every dirty tactic to point out that we are better than Sony, even though Sony is working very hard to please the gamer this gen.

Our mission is to make Sony drop the price of the ps3, so we can drop the price of the 360 to $149 and compete with the ps3 and the ps2.

Otherwise, we don't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning this thing.

table6273d ago

its funnier when you make the humour less obvious than that. Keep the comments coming though some of them really crack me up :)

eagle216273d ago

this author called Killzone 2 "decent" when Gamespot gave halo wars a 6.5 and Killzone 2 a 9. The crap that 360 executives and their fans talk is a representation of the 360: Loud and faulty. :)

John Hendry Eden6273d ago

Xbox 360 is the better console anyway.

Genesis56273d ago (Edited 6273d ago )

Aaron's right. When you act as arrogant as he has been lately it really turns most people off. Being gracious is something he should really learn to do.

Edit:
At above. What exactly is it better at? Quieter? More reliable? More versatile? Better exclusives? Can you answer any of these?

cayal6273d ago

"Xbox 360 is the better console anyway."

Thank you for providing your child, immature, moronic comments as proof that fanboys will never learn or be smart.

Now **** off to your cave, troll.

Does anyone remember the PS3 exclusive Folklore? I popped it in last night, and sat back amazed at how good it looked, and how deep it was. I reserve my opinion that Keats the supporting protagonist looks like Octagon from MGS fame, but this game is amazing.

It does a great job of transporting you across the globe to a mysterious island, and then assaults your senses with surreal effects, and unforgettable mythical locales and creatures like half-lifes, and Folk, all based in Irish mythology. Its a fairly long affair, and starts out simply to conclude extravagantly deep and complicated, yet it's a story that anyone can follow, if you like a good story that is. Oh, and lets not forget the ability to use the ids of fallen folk by acquiring them through a jerk of the sixaxis when they are winded from battle. Strange how a game this long-winded and qualified, escaped the notice of the media for so long. I liked it so much that I took advantage of the DLC quests, and wow, am I amazed at how they add, and improve upon the formula with variation and rewards. This is a game that every PS3 owner should possess.

I walked away thinking of this title as an innovative, and fun experience, with great graphics, and story to support it. From the moment I started, it became evident through cg cutscenes, in-game monologue, to graphic novel style narratvie delivery, that great emphasis was placed on the story. In fact, I noticed that unlike quite a few games, there is no drop off in detail between all the levels and locales, trust me I looked, and throughout it appears that the developers placed equally amazing effort into everything. Please do yourself a solid and try this one out.

Xbox 360 has 5 exclusives rated 90 or higher on Metacritic. PS3 has 4. I don't know why is is constantly stated on N4G that somehow Sony has "better" or "higher quality" exclusives - it's about as even as could be. There is no monopoly on exclusives.

EDIT @1.9 - So now the N4G fortune tellers and Nostradamus wannabes are going to try to predict the quality of upcoming games months in advance of their actual releases, and somehow try to pass it off as a matter of fact. Sony may have a great lineup on paper, but having a great paper lineup is NO guarantee of critical or commercial success.

Baseballkid, huh? You of all people should know this - look at the New York Yankees - they always have the best lineup on paper - where has it gotten them recently?

BaSeBaLlKiD7216273d ago

lol, its funny how the xbox fanboys try to spin the "5 xbox games that are rated 90+, 4 for PS3" meanwhile PS3 will easily pass 5 games by the end of 2009 while 360 will be still at 5 or maybe 6

and we all know that halo 3 doesnt even deserve a 94

"In terms of software? Possibly
Hardware? ....No "

In terms of software that's subjective, and it's up to your personal choice. Using metascores as a metric to determine which games are better is for retards that can't make their own mind, but if anyone wants to debate good games with scores, PS3 and 360 are more or less even in terms of amount of quality games, even though PS3 is a year younger. The most ironic thing is that PS3 has been getting plenty of exclusive game announcements this year, be it from 1st or 3rd parties, in spite of Greenterd's statements. Whether Microsoft can or can't counter that who knows, but PS3 gamers still have a lot to look forward to even if Sony is supposedly "hemorraging" at retail as Greentard would like us to believe.

Sony will take action when it's necessary and right now Sony is comfortable enough, and PS3 owners have a lot to look forward to. As for 360 owners? They probably can't wait for the next NPD results because that's the only place they can get their joy from in terms of gaming because it seems that there isn't much to look forward to other than multiplatform games.

Xbox fanboys, enjoy your sales while the rest of actual gamers enjoy their games.

It's nice in that one extra year of existence Microsoft could produce only one more 90+ exclusive, isn't it?

Why did you disagree, and not give your argument? I would love to understand your reasoning, but you arent really giving me a chance to. I think N4G should link the disagree button to the reply command, so that these phantom disagrees would at least decrease.

The Lazy One6273d ago

when people take a quote out of context, then people write an article taking an out of context quote out of context.

cmrbe6273d ago

I will try Folklore if you try VC. VC is one very very, very, very underated game.

Qdog6273d ago (Edited 6273d ago )

Valkyria Chronicles? I assume thats the one you mean, and yes I tried the demo. While it isnt my favorite style, it certainly was underrated based on the merit of artistic direction, and solid design. I liked how it took certain aspects from different genres, and made them work while still being able to tell a story. Kudos to you if thats what you meant by VC, but if you meant Variable Cannabis, or Venereal Complications, then I'll have to pass, and take your word for it.:p

aaronisbla6272d ago

That demo for VC kinda sucks compared to the actual game, its truly brilliant, give it a rent or buy, id suggest buy though.

They are here to make flame... PR work.. sony and ms are both responsible and wont stop

cayal6273d ago

Sorry but what exactly does 'make flame' do for the industry? It simply makes the companies look like childish fanboys. They won't sell consoles based on petty slights.

Pebz6273d ago

Take a look around, like on N4G for example, flame wars provide massive attention for games. The companies are very well aware of this, and they constantly throw a bit of fuel on the flame now and then, to make sure it keeps going.

I'm afraid the good old saying "There is not such thing as bad publicity" has yet to cease being true.

cayal6273d ago

It still isn't going to sell consoles or games.

Pebz6273d ago

Advertisement and publicity is aimed at the sub-concious, not the concious level. Sure, on a concious level, these guys are only trash talking each other and making themselves looking bad, but the sub-concious, which picks up everything, is getting constantly bombarded with repetition of whatever products these guys are promoting, no matter what the context is.

Ever noticed how billboard advertisement, if done properly, almost exclusively consists of two or more identical posters next to each other? Repetition is the key.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle25d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7734d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga34d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199233d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga33d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box34d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion33d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7234d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7533d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit33d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14934d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7734d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
