As sophisticated as the game engine and range of play modes are in Scrabble, there's simply no substitute for hanging out with friends and family playing face to face. But for travel and times when there's no opponent available, this reassuringly familiar and mentally challenging game will please any player (and parent).
It's also noteworthy that Scrabble is available on Face Book and at Pogo.com for free. Though these online games don't offer the variety of training and modes, they can satisfy the casual Scrabble player.
