PlayStation Gamer UK Writes: "Theres no two way's about it, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been quite possibly the biggest FPS shooter of this generation so far and even today years after its release most of us are still playing it and activision will be re-releasing the title again in the near future."

I'm confused why it will be launched at full RRP with COD4:MW2 just around the corner

jammy_706188d ago

but i feel the COD series is rushed and cud b so muchbetter, well in the campaign department, WAW campaign was like 3 hours long...

Mikerra176187d ago

2 years later the price is still like $60 I would buy it again if they brought it down to $30

FF7numbaone6187d ago

yes cod MW: 2 is on its way but not every1 knows thats. cod4 is pretty good, its more interesting than waw. Plus Infinity ward imo is the star dev and treyach are bench players.

egres6187d ago

patch some trophy support for the PS3...

I would personally love to have that ^_^

y0haN6187d ago

I just simply love that game (multiplayer). Hours and hours and hours of fun. See ya' online! Come get some..!

resistance1006188d ago

I found i couldn't get into COD:WAW like i did COD4:MW

DK_Kithuni_716188d ago

Had decent fun with Modern Warfare but have not spend as much time with it as World at War. Did not finish the single player in any of them. Kind of odd. I finished Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 several times in single player. Surely had a great time with Killzone 2 in single player too.

World at War really shines in multiplayer. Somehow the old weapons just feel better to me. Furthermore I prefer the dogs in World at War over the helicopters in Modern Warfare. And who can say no to a flamethrower? Besides World at War has co-op and zombies, which Modern Warefare doesn’t.

It’s all a matter of opinion i guess. Both are superb (!) games and should be in any decent First Person Shooter collection.

rockleex6187d ago

Were perfect for Search and Destroy.

I play COD4 only because I love its Search and Destroy. But I hate its lag... -_-"

Anyways, I loved COD:WAW for its Zombie Mode! >:D

Hopefully COD4:MW2 does something unique like that. ^_^

FF7numbaone6187d ago

wow if i had to play a ww2 game. I'd rather play cod 2 than waw. After MW I already made up my mind that I like playing with modern weopans. So when waw came out and saw treyach doing it, I was like naw.

jeseth6187d ago

I like W@W, but in my mind it pales in comparison to COD4. The weapons and maps were all perfect on COD4; W@W all the maps feel too circular and most of the weapons feel the same as long as you stay in that weapon class.

The spawning in W@W is also flawed compared to COD4 in my opinion. COD4 spawned you behind your team very well. W@W spawns you the way games like Unreal Tournament spawn...ANYWHERE. Often right in the middle of a firefight (so you immediately die) or right in front of where the opposing team is spawning (so you immediately die).

I don't mean to sound like I dislike W@W but I don't think it is in the same atmosphere as COD4.

For example:

COD4 : Over 16hrs. online and Level 55 Gold Cross. And I haven't played it since W@W came out.

W@W : Only 6 days online since launch and I'm bored with it. Even when I play with my clan buddies.

No Way6187d ago

There was an article on here a few months ago saying that MW2 would have a game mode similar to that of WaW's zombie mode.

Mikerra176187d ago

come on man there is no way WaW is better

Activision sure knows how to milk a franchise.

Sarcasm6188d ago

Leave it to them to ignore the pleas for a Trophy and Rumble patch.

Leogamer6187d ago

And so is Nintendo, Sony, and MS. Is the bottom line. Money makes the world go round.

irishxdrunk6188d ago

At least WAW wasn't as bad as COD3, definetly not as good as 4 though.

PirateThom6188d ago (Edited 6188d ago )

I'm guessing the price of this will go down. It'll esentually turn out to be Call of Duty 4 as it was originally released, without the code for the map packs, a "classics" or "platinum" release, if you will.

This is a great reminder of how game sales have become more concentrated in a smaller number of games/series over time. In the PS1/PS2 era a game was a success if it sold a million or a few million copies. The GTA games (3/Vice City/San Andreas) were pretty big outliers in selling as much as they did during the PS2 era. So in the minds of a lot of gamers something like FF VII feels like it was as big of a PS1 game as God of War 2018 was for PS4, but in reality far fewer people bought it (though it has obviously reached additional people through remasters, etc.).

StoneTitan167d ago

this was alwalys the case and will always be the case. with everything

Zerobalance167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

What this says to me is, not many people are buying a PS to play PS exclusives. Like so many false narratives, like Xbox gamers don't buy games! It seems Playstation as a default system is a vanilla system to play call of duty, Minecraft, GTA games and a sports games.

badz149167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

if you look back into the PS history, it has always been the 3rd parties who sells the most games. it was just that the PS1 and PS2 were so dominant that many of those 3rd party games were exclusives. so, back during the PS1 and PS2 days, the strategy was "to sell as many consoles as possible in order to sell more 1st party exclusives" to ride on that wave. The strategy to push many 1st party exclusives to sell consoles only started with the PS3 when many of those prior 3rd party exclusives went multiplat but more accurately, it started with the PSP.

Sony saw with the PSP, which was being trounced in sales by the DS, that 3rd party exclusives are hard to come by if you're not dominating the market. So they started building more 1st party games and when the PS3 were facing difficulties in sales, they knew they had to rely on their own to differentiate the PS3 from the 360. So the strategy back then changed to "release more 1st party exclusives in order to sell more consoles".

the only manufacturer that is still consistently selling their hardware to play 1st party exclusives, is Nintendo, and that was because they gave up the armrace for power thus they can't rely on 3rd parties anymore as all multiplats play better on competing consoles. AND that's also why they are the most ominous in going after emulators and also patent trolling!

so, you're not wrong there, but not an "aha!" moment or anything. it has been this way since the last, at least, 15 years for Playstation.

@zerobalance

So... what this tells you is that Call of duty, being the absolute check writer that it is, has been outsold by Last of us, God of war, 2 Spider man games..... Saying Playstation exclusives doesn't sell is like saying call of duty doesn't sell because they have outsold some of iterations. Does that make sense to you?

Will be interesting to see what sort of numbers GP users draw in come tomorrow. It is believed that this is one many have been waiting for.

thesoftware730581d ago

Darth,

That is not accurate; this game is old, and most people who want it have already bought it. You might get a small number of subs, but we will mostly see a good influx of players(not new subs) from people with Game Pass who will try it, which is what happened with D4.

CoD: BO 6 will be the test for actual sub numbers.

darthv72581d ago

That's fair... seeing as many have been saying they want CoD in GP. My comment was more of , now that its here... what can it do. Im sure there will be other titles in the franchise that will either entice or turn off different users.

Bathyj581d ago

No one's buying a console and signing up for a monthly bill just to get this game to avoid buying it. That's ridiculous. Besides everyone bagged the crap out of this on release for the 4 hour campaign.

andy85581d ago

Sweet. Never got round to it on release. I'll give the campaign a go

chicken_in_the_corn581d ago

Severly underrated game. Big improvement over 2.

Why MW 2019 is still the best looking Call of Duty to date

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
