By this guys logic, it makes me wonder how many of the XX million X360 owners are actually owners and not counted as a sale due to a dead console and a re-buy.

i've had my ps3 since october08 and i already have 21 games and over 20 blu ray movies. The ps3 has plenty of games and everyone i know has at least 4 games in their collection. With games being $60 now and so many high quality games coming out so close to each other you cant expect everyone to buy every single game, especially with the way the economy is.

I think at least 17mil cause there is 17mil psn account. Why would they have psn acount if they only use it for blueray? none the less KZ2, mgs4, LBP sell more than 1mil.

Remember not everybody who own a PS3 its really a hardcore gamer. A lot of people bought a PS3 console for Blu Ray. A real good example of that its my older brother. He play just 1 game on his PS3 (KZ2 because i make him buy it) but most of the time he is renting movies and games but pass more time playing PC games. Me on the other hand i am a gamer and when i have the time i rent a PS3 game to play it on his console.

Nobody buys games for Ps3 because all the multiplats are better on 360 and all PS3 exclusives are overhyped games with broken controls, no personality and weak online play.

Tough to get an answer. The only exclusive to sell very very well has been MGS4.

How many really bought a PS3 for other duties than gaming? Go on over there to the AVSforums and you'll be surprised. I just hooked up my buddies to his Wifi and this guy does not game at all. Goes great with his Bravia apparently.

Sony split the market. Doesn't take a fool to realize. Depending on what the competition does, they can still recover but not because of how many exclusives they got. Today it's about what you can afford. The exclusives are not pushing that much hardware, so who are not buying games?

If anything I would say the attach rate of the ps3 is affected quite a bit by the ammount of people who originally bought ps3's simply for blu-ray and/or media hubs, and not games. So theoretically the ammount of ps3 gamers could be less than the amount of ps3 owners. It would definitly explain some of the attach rate numbers.

I'm not gonna lie, I've actually had similar thoughts before about how many PS3 owners actually use their console for gaming... at the beginning, the PS3 wasn't always pushed as a Gaming Console, but as a Blu-ray Player in a lot of cases and a Gaming Console second.

Pretty much everyone that bought a Xbox 360 mainly bought it for gaming alone, but there's been plenty of people that have bought a PS3 solely for Blu-ray and a media hub.

However, I can't help but think that Sony knew that if the PS3 was going to be pushed as a Blu-ray player, everyone that got a PS3 wouldn't be using it for gaming, so it's not like Sony didn't see it coming.

Whatever the case, I think that PS3 software sales are pretty good right now considering the installbase. Various PS3 exclusives like Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Little Big Planet may not have sold as much as some may have expected, but you can't forget those games came out during the holiday rush.

.... And then there's people that have both the 360 and PS3, but only buy Exclusives for their PS3, because most people that have both the PS3 and 360 buy the majority of their multiplatform games only on the 360, and that can play a big part in PS3 software sales as well.... but that's a whole different story, lol.

And yes, I do realize there is some people who own both consoles and buy the majority of their games on the PS3, but for the most part, I'd say most people who own both consoles get the 360 version of a multiplat. game.

according to EA, UBISOFT, and some other companys, the ps3 has a better attach rate to their games than nintendo and 360

I own 16 at the moment. Some I play once a month or so, some, a few times a week. Re5 is taking all the time now.

cuz ive got 18 games and i bought my PS3 at midnight june 12th 08.
its not news that sony needs to advertise their first party games more. the one thing i do applaud in the 360 camp is that they buy games. i mean i would NEVER buy turok or blacksite area 51 or games of poor caliber but somehow those sold decently enough and many times more than on PS3. ill admit that even I havent bought killzone (gotta pay the bills you know) but come next payday itll still be tough deciding between SF4 Killzone and Res Evil.

I think a Price Drop is comming real soon because Sony is in a Bad Position right now.A price drop would be the best thing they could do because we are in a depression and they need to get that Install base up to par with everyone else.BTW Star Ocean should have been Mult Plat . Square lost alot of money on this one.

Why the hell do people even care about most multiplats? Sure there are the very good ones like Call of duty 4, Call of Duty 5,...Battlefield bad company....but its too bad the actual good multiplats look almost identical on both systems, one might have a different shade on a cardboard box,BU BU BU it affects the gameplay!!! , Xbox 360 exclusives are a joke, PS3 is where its at, a system that is actually furthering the evolution of videogames, not some piece of crap unreliable plastic box that can barely match up to the ps3's greatness. 1) price.I got a PS1,2 on launch.I got a ps3 last December.They couldnt drop the price sooner. 2) when I got my PS3.they was only GT prologue and KZ2 (for this feb) that I wanted. why? Because prior to buying a ps3,I bought all the cool multiplats for my 360,I own +35 xbox360 games,just 7 ps3 games.and the ps3 games I own,some look better on 360(Army Of Two,EndWAR,Top Spin 3 etc) I bought purely cuz I had to wait till February for Killzone 2 and I felt bad not having a variety of games and my ps3 sat to the left of my tv gathering dust.It just didnt feel right. And i honestly don't think it ever was or will be.

But i would'nt exactly call that a problem.

Yes they spent some money with killzone 2, but i wouldn't guess or be told how much unless it came from sony or gg.

PS1 & PS2 were the same way with regards to how games sold, different strokes for different folks.

And that's the way i like it.

You get a much more diverse library that way. and most importantly more interesting.

But attach rates for some games on PS3 are high.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
