Capcon is arguing that it is okay to have versus mode as an additonal cost in DLC because RE games never had it before???? by that logic, every single sequel to every game has to be exactly like the first one, with no new gaming innovations, since those innovations cost more to "develop"....give me a break. if you are a game developer trying to make a better product than your previous one, then you do it without "adding on" costs to the consumer. if you are a developer looking to only make more money than you previously did, then you do what capcon is doing.

there are tons of games out there that didn't have multiplayer, but their sequels did and they do not charge extra for this feature. there are tons of games that during development, the game devs suddenly issue a statement about how the game may be delayed because they decided to add in online mulitplayer at the end, and those developers do not all of a sudden jack up the price of their game when it is finally released....but for some reason when capcon says "well, we never had this feature in previous RE games, so we will charge extra for it now", that is supposed to be acceptable??

the very fact that people are actually siding with capcon on this is signaling the downward spiral that DLC is going to turn into once all developers realize they can charge extra for not finishing their own game and consumers being ok with paying for it

Edit: there's a good way and a bad way to do DLC. GTA4 and FallOut 3 do it the right way (actually offering great value for money while NOT skimping on the initial release), and sadly, there are tons of examples of what's 'the wrong way' to do DLC.

It's really ruining gaming, and it will be the cause of players losing their loyalty and sympathy towards the developers.

Every game today has multiplayer versus mode in-the-box. I don't give a f*ck for your f*cking excuses about your f*cking crappy broken game. Respect your customers, respect the game community or else go f*ck yourself!

If they wanted and online mode then sales of the game would go up because this feature is offered but the DLC argument is that its already on dis, just like Streetfighter 4 and Namcos unlocks. Why on earth would anybody want to pay for costumes that should be given free if they shipped on the disc. Sounds to me that Capcom are indeed Capitalists and their artists do not share a love for their creations enough for them to have the costumes and multiplayer modes given for free. If Capcom add the multiplayer free, they get people playing RE5 for longer, shifting more units. DLC is a further slap to the face, I am having none of it. Has Nintendo gone down this path, not yet and I hope they don't as its rubbish and shouldn't be allowed by MS or Sony on the live/PSN systems.

Greed is what has the world in this recession, Capcom is a contributor along with many others. Its ill informed 'Sheep' that are lead to the Corporate wolf and the underdog is the consumer. If they were trying to get piracy funds back I would understand but thats not the case as both systems have secure online abilties. Its just wrong, its on the disc, finished and purposely placed there for 'Keys' to download them, they didn't charge for costumes on Dead Rising, why all of a sudden are they doing it for 'Normally' included features now!?! Let's look at CoD4. The map pack is free on PC but cost $10 on consoles. Hmmmm, what's this? Free on PC, price on console? I don't remember what game but I remember there was a game where the company wanted the maps to be free but Microsoft made them charge consumers. I think it was GeoW. Let's look at Namco Bandai, Yoda and Darth Vader cost $5 but they are already on the disc. EA was going to charge us for weapons in BF:BC but enough protest stopped them. Tomb Raider's DLC is cut off from the original game for extra cash.

The excuse that it has never been done before is ridiculous. Loads of games could claim that. Would I want to be charged for Resistance 2 online because it was Insomniacs first 60 player game?

I had a great day of gaming yesterday. Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3 split screen. It was a free patch. Added loads.
Capcom did the same with SFIV and it's ridiculous. They'll make a profit on the game and if they don't, the developers will still get paid. Charging extra for something so soon after release just shows they're after extra money and it's not the price to stop people buying it, but the principle.
Console gamers have got ripped off this generation, and developers need to know it's not acceptable to do. Unfortunately there's always enough idiots buying the products to make developers think it is acceptable behaviour.

Consumer confidence will be lowered if ignored, if everyone rented the game now money would be made to create more, but gouging for game content already on the disk and unsubstantiated pricing for 'Keys' is just plain wrong. We all know Right and Wrong, some DLC is expansive and worthwhile, whilst other DLC that is normally from franchises loved by gamers is milked, so much so that I am sure it will damage peoples choice to purchase follow up games.

I think this would be a great time for Gamers and fanboys alike to JOIN forces and tell all companies that overpricing and charging for DLC that is not substantiated is WRONG and will affect their sales.

MS and Sony can easily stop this by introducing policies designed to protect their users and consumers. They need to be a target of this too.

Well for a start I somehow doubt that Resident Evil 5 is as demanding as MGS4 but I may be wrong. Also, I don't care...Look at Lost Planet. 5GB install. My Fallout 3 install is less than that. So I don't care about Team Kojima, i'm talking about Capcom...and they are lazy.

They wouldn't have a business without this consumer base and will lose it because of bad marketing decisions.

I reckon Microsoft and Sony should do the same for allowing it in the first place. We both their consoles and they are allowing this when it is very easy for them to create policies such as mandatory Trophies/Achievements etc.

I heard that the level is only going to be 3 minutes long and the final boss is really lame and dies with one pistol shot.

And then before the end sequence plays a paypal prompt pops up and you have to make a final $2 payment to watch the end sequence and credits.

i totally believe that they excluded the feature from the game just to charge us more, look at street fighter 4 it has online play which came standard with it. they didnt charge extra for it, so why resident evil 5. they claim thats the first time they are doing this. utter nonsense look at resident evil outbreak they didnt charge extra for online so why now. they have no explanation to justify their actions and i believe we should let them know that we do not appreciate this trend by not purchasing their dlc since it we do it will give them an incentive to continue the trend. they need to release this as a free mod to the game. please feel free to comment if u disagree.

All you people who are defending this must really like getting shafted by these companies, my guess is that you are MS fans. How would have felt it Insomniac charged extra for the excellent coop mode? I mean come on, I bet this is already in the game and the $5 is just for an unlock! I'm not defending Capcom, but this is the future. A company is beholden to its board and/or its shareholders. A company is like a shark, it must continually make a profit or it is considered sick, if it consistently takes loses then it is dying. That is the nature of the beast. Companies are always looking to expand there markets, like empires of old would continually look for new lands to colonize. This is not about the game or gamers, its about finding new avenues of revenue. If people continue to purchase any form of post game content, then these companies will see that their venture was a success and continue to sell things in that manner. There is no morality here, the only god here is the bottom line. If no one purchased the dlc, and more over if sales of RE5 suffered because of it, then Capcom might think twice about doing this in the future. People will buy the dlc. We will see more of this in the future. Why? The gaming companies are Pavlov, and we are the dog salivating when they ring their bells. Not just gaming companies but any company that you as an individual find yourself routinely purchasing from. I prefer Adidas to Nike, cant explain really why but I always buy their sh-t. I prefer BK over McDonalds, etc. Again no moral judgment here this is just the nature of our consumer culture. we are not as independent and free from coercion as we would like to think we are. I suspect many of us complaining about this will be playing the VS, just so we can complain about the mode itself. Why? Funny thing is a few of us saw that kind of things coming the very first day consoles dlc appeared . The moment people massively supported stuff like Oblivion horsepaint it was game over .

It has spiraled down as expected , and keep getting worse as expected , to the point of some people actually disappointed when a game got no extra dlc to buy . And also to people clinging to the "it's a choice" excuse or defending incriminated devs with "costs" .

I find appealing to see people defending dlc costs issues for a game that already sold 400 000 copies in the sole country of Japan already , hence covering already a major portion of the game's budget in a single week . Of course they gotta pay whoever even do a costume dlc , but that's already covered and easy to alievate without even selling the dlc .

That pathological consumerist behaviour has simply transformed cost covered freebies into paid contents with a huge profit for the devs .

Unlike what many believes , freebies werent just a PC thing via patchs , consoles always had plenty of them . Xenogears and Zone of the Enders didnt need to offer you a VS mode , especially when it's mediocre and just a mini game bonus . Tekken didnt need to include bowling , volleyball or a the tekken force beat them all , nor did mortal kombat with chess and lots of stuff .
Fighting games always had extra costumes ... and if console users had held their ground when online massively arrived int their lives , they would have gotten the same kind of free patched content the pc enjoyed .

Used to be that Blizzard released lots free classes , maps , games modes in Starcraft and Warcraft 3 ... but in the current and future context would they and will they ? Not really , and why should they with everyone giving their approval ? Instead they will most likely break those freebies into numerous little patchs and sell them , while giving a occasional bone like a free tank paint to shut up most people . And of course a few morons will defend them invoking cost issues for one of the most profitable developer ever .

The magic world of everything DLC is also already beautiful things like EA asphyxiating concurrents by buying exclusive sports rights so they could UP their fifa and madden price , then selling subscriptions for automatic stats and roster updates . A magic that makes you pay the licensing rights twice basically .
Of course free will and choice will still be invoked ... yeah right of course a 6 fifa owner and soccer fanatic wont be forced and tempted to update his players list when it's the Mercato season right ?

Today refusing dlcs means that playing cod4 without accepting to be ripped of 10$ for maps ...you wont be able to join your friends in parties , mean that you wont get all weapons and advantages in other games .. means that suddenly while playing a fighting game (like Soul Calibur) , you get owned by some DLC character you never wanted to buy or meet , and dont have access to etc etc .

Stop making love with MS and then not being able to wack stuff on the disc.

I am all for DLC done right, this however is just poor show from Capcom, nothing more than a money making scheme which is insulting if you payed full price for the game in stores.

DLC should be something you can live without, however its a nice extra if you choose to purchase it.

E.G. Just because I like LittleBigPlanet, I don't need to buy every released costume, if I choose to pick and choose then that's my choice, leaving out a core part of the game then charging for it is just bad.

That will be a key to unlock versus mode that's already on the disk. It's a shame really. Same thing happend to Street Fighter 4. All those costume packs and such are all on the disk all you buy is a 100KB download that unlocks it. Shame. For that reason alone I won't buy it. Capcom doesn't deserve extra money at all. Why didn't they just made it available from the get go and actually put their asses to work like Criterion is doing with Burnout Paradise.

Yes CAPCOM, there are countries where there is no XBL aviable and cannot even play on X360 online unless faking account at their own risk. There are countries without Playstation Store, which they are unable to fake account to buy DLC due to REGION.

For PS Store, you can make fake accounts, but try buy a Region 2 DLC or anything from European Playstation Store. When you put your credit card information it tells you invalid, due to the country. American PS Store allows you to buy, but the DLC does not work with Region 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. They only work with Region 1 Games, which in those countries there are no Region 1 games because they are other regions.

I am saying this because of the Versus Mode in RE5. Not only it -should- be included with the game as standard like all other games, but should be free, not charging money for just an unlock code for data that are already in the game. People can live without SFIV costumes, they do not change gameplay or add any other gameplay, just skins for looks. BUT, a whole online mode that probably cannot have RE5 without it? Now fans in the same sea as me, cannot enjoy any RE5 online at all, due to your greed.

You now screw me with one of my favourite fanchise, but disallowing me to play Versus due to your greed. Not only an online mode is standard and free in all games, you charge for it, data that is already on the disc, and some people cannot buy it. This is a whole game mode, you cannot let it go.

And finally, I am one who enjoyed RE5 Demo that I played it all the time until KZ2 came online, and loved the controls too.

But what i don't get is a VS. Mode in a traditionally single player experience especially in a Survival Horror Game.

The problem with this game is not the pricing its that they took out everything that made Resident Evil was taken out and replaced with Typical Action Adventure Game B.

Also I wonder if there are any skills involved in the versus mode. You can't move while you are shooting so you are pretty much a sitting target while attacking.

I am passing up resident evil 5 for this exact reason. Great games these days have multiplayer thrown in with the cost of the single player and you dont have to pay extra for multiplayer. Capcom is seriously harming their "customer frendly" stance they have. Last month it was the crummy idea of putting crimson viper as the figurine in the collectors edition of street fighter 4 and now this.

I am simply choosing not to purchase this game. I believe that what they are doing is wrong, and that they will eventually offer the functionality for free.

As consumers, we have the power to make a statement by not buying. Gaming demands have changed, and developers need to react in tandem with those changes.

Besides, Online Co-Op is the shizznit when it comes to this game... screw paying for Versus. This should be free DLC, or if they really want to make a decent sell out of it, include a handful of some nice exclusive weapons UNLOCKED for the DLC purchasers.

See the problem with DLC is that they don't know what the fu*k they are doing when they try to sell it. If weapons were unlocked for use by purchasing the DLC it would've done 3 things.

1) Give you the versus option with additional cool different weapons.
2) Add significant replay value in Single mode by using these unlocked weapons
3) Make Co-op online more enjoyable by using exclusive DLC weapons that people without the DLC could not use unless they bought the DLC.

For instance, non-DLC users could not ask for these weapons from someone who had them, or they would appear in the inventory with a lock on them (until the DLC was purchased).

The problem is not with DLC, it is with fu*kers who do not know how to make it translate into an OVERALL more grand experience throughout the game. They won't get my $5 for EXTRACTING an optional play mode out of the original game and resell it to me, my $60 paid for that, but they can keep Versus!!!
