Are More PS3 Exclusives Imminent?

PSXE writes: We are all quite aware of the recurring theme of this new generation: third-party exclusives are nearly a thing of the past, despite the fact that Microsoft has managed to secure a few timed exclusives. Essentially, all we're left with is first and second-party productions, like Resistance (Insomniac) and Uncharted (Naughty Dog). However, now that we've seen clear examples of the PlayStation 3's potential and hardware superiority, will third-party developers begin to consider working on PS3 exclusives?

DeforMAKulizer6286d ago

Quantic dreams is an independent developer, but teamed up with Sony to realize their hopes for Heavy Rain...
They have another game in the works Omikron 2 with platforms TBA according the wiki page:

The third party exclusive support is coming, slowly but surely. Tecmo's new Team Ninja head Yousuke Hayashi, the director of Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a major proponent of the PS3. Since Tomonobu Itagaki's love of the 360 left with him, Tecmo seems to be focusing more on the PS3. Yousuke Hayashi has already said that the Sigma version of Ninja Gaiden is the future of the series, likely meaning that PS3 games are coming. Keisuke Kikuchi is also heading up the development of the PS3 exclusive Quantum Theory. This is only the story of one company, and I have a feeling that more are coming. I might be wrong, and I'll be happy to admit if I am, but Tecmo's big turnaround is one indication of a Japanese developer shifting it's console focus. Also with the recent news that Tecmo will reveal it's new game at the upcoming game only at the Sony Show, they might be revealing their new focus.

No they (developers) don't care about how strong PS3 really is. They want sales, numbers. Console power is a consumer/customer thing.

Shinro6286d ago

Developers became developers because they want to make good games. It's not just for the money.

That's like saying a chef who became a chef because they want money. Chefs became chefs because they like to cook. Or like artists; Painters don't just paint to earn money, they do it mainly because they love painting.

Game developers went into the game industry because they like video games and be a part of it.

It's not always about money.

ftwps36286d ago

"Developers became developers because they want to make good games. It's not just for the money. "

No...No one above the Indie level cares about "quality", over "sales"(except valve maybe)

If your foolish enough to think that Multi-million dollar gaming corporations exist for any other reason then to make money, then your in for a rude awakening. A dev cares only about quality, if quality sells. The existence of the wii is a very affront to the "DEVs like making good games argument", because its a last generation console with low, bad quality games, and yet devs still flock to it.

No one cares about the consumers opinion beyond giving their business money.

FPShooter6286d ago

how do you think they get sales. from making quality games, no one buys a game for the sales they buy it for the quality

Arnon6285d ago

You guys are complete morons, rofl.

1. Sales reflect upon the game. If it does not sell well, why on EARTH do you think they would waste more development time & money for a exclusive game on the console that could not even get their FIRST game off the ground?

2. A developing team (multimillion dollar) is there for money. Period. They're not going to waste millions of dollars making a game that they think will not sell, but instead "have sentimental value".

FPShooter6285d ago (Edited 6285d ago )

@3.4

"the sales reflect upon the game" you know that works both ways. developers make high quality games so they can sale well.

no one is gonna buy a suckass game. these developers have their reputation to think about, thus high quality games

Consoldtobots6285d ago

just like microsoft, its fanboys have no long term vision. Just because you see corporations doing business that way now, DOESN'T MEAN this will guarantee their success in the long run. Lets see who's still around in 20 years. My money is on Sony.

Arnon6285d ago

"no one is gonna buy a suckass game"

Killzone 1 sold over 2 million copies because of it's hype. It was a pretty mediocre game. What do you think of it's sales reflecting onto Killzone 2?

FPShooter6285d ago (Edited 6285d ago )

First of all KILLZONE happeneds to be my favorite shooter. its true KZ2 was a really hyped game

But there where a million videos online showing off the groundbreaking graphics and MP. The more videos the more hype. Thats why its saling well.

But if you genuinely don't like it your entitle your on opinion. Thats what I mean when I say people buy games for quality not for sales numbers.

Quality sales games, and hype helps, but SONY didn't push KZ2 as nearly as hard as they should have so honestly I think its saling good because of word of mouth. Because outside of N4G KZ2 wasn't all that hyped

The Fake Deal6286d ago

Well let's see, SR2 has over GTA IV

-More weapons, very cool weapons (minigun, shockpaddles, modern future weapons)

-Killer vehicles ( tanks, attack chopper, WWII plane)

-TONS of customization (you character appearance, clothing, cribs, vehicles)

-Better online

-ONLINE STORY CO-OP

-IMO Better aiming and driving

All I think GTAIV has over SR2 is graphics and story(by far). SR2 will be a lot more fun gameplay wise.

GTAIV story missions were pretty boring, except for a few, took me 23 hours to beat. There also weren't military in the game anymore Way less cheats than previous games (No riot mode, WTF!). Less weapons

ftwps36286d ago
