Killzone 2 exceeds 1 million copies sold

On retail shelves for just about 2 weeks, the PS3 exclusive has now sold over 1 million copies. On the opening weekend, Killzone 2 went on to sell about 700,000 copies in North America and Europe. Over the course of the next week, it went on to sell another 300,000 copies, which represents a drop off of about 50% - a pretty decent showing considering the title was launched in a non-holiday period. In total, the game has sold about 1.05 million copies thus far.

Vgchartz? lol never mind.KZ2 maybe only sold 500,000 or 2 million.I can never tell with Vgchartz bogus numbers

Perception16282d ago

And where are their sources coming from?

Mr_Bun6282d ago (Edited 6282d ago )

I don't know how many copies were sold...but I do know that it is an extremely addicting game that has taken all of my free time since Feb 27th!

Perception16282d ago

Lol we'll see how they ACTUALLY did today, in the U.S anyway. It's NPD today right?

mugoldeneagle036282d ago

"teh PS3 is where console exclusives go to die!"

Good news. This is one of the few times I've actually been excited to check out NPD's. Anyone know when they'll hit?

Killzone 2 - FTMFW

whoelse6282d ago

About 2 weeks before release, SCEE announced that 1.1 million pre-orders had been taken in Europe.

joydestroy6282d ago (Edited 6282d ago )

c'mon, give 'em credit, seriously.
we all know it has sold at least 1mil copies.

EDIT: does it really matter if it's VGChartz or NPD for this story if we know this is factual information anyway? this is just plain common sense. it's like saying school buses are yellow. i don't think a real source is needed since there is no exact amount of copies sold being discussed.

DixieNormS6282d ago

just in the UK posts. Bullshot.

soxfan20056282d ago (Edited 6282d ago )

So, if NPD reports roughly the same numbers as VGChartz, that will end the talk about VGChartz being unreliable and making up numbers, right? Somehow, I doubt it.

Funny how this article was approved, very quickly I might add, using VGChartz numbers, while there an article on the "pending" page titled "America's sales for week ending March 7", which also uses VGChartz numbers. That article has been reported as "spam" and "unreliable" by numerous PS3 fanboys, and has yet to be approved. Take a look at the list. I guess VGChartz is reliable when they report something pro-Sony, and "fake" at all other times.

BTW - I don't doubt that Killzone 2 has sold over a million copies. But we either quote VGChartz or we don't - the double standard and hypocrisy on this site is staggering.

EDIT @ Perception - It wasn't aimed at you - just a general observation.

Perception16282d ago

I am giving them credit, I actually think they did more than that. If that comment was directed at me anyway.

6282d ago
Aquanox6282d ago (Edited 6282d ago )

NPD numbers have been pushed back to March 19th.

We'll have to wait a little longer for NPD KZ2 Edition.

As for these numbers, I'd be disappointed if they were true. It would mean that Killzone 2 is selling at half the pace Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gears of War 2 did. Good for virtually any other title, but not for one of the most hyped of this generation.

jrsenkbe6282d ago

Killzone came out on the 27th in the US and there are only 28 days in February. The sales numbers for Killzone this month will really only represent day 1 sales. We will need to wait until March to see the overall sales of the game and how many units it moved.

Great game, almost lost my PS3 and HDTV to a flood, damn water!! Be up and running again tonight.

Doppy6282d ago

This is a shame 1 million is really good, but this game should have sold a lot more. Killzone 2 is a amazing game, and yet it's sharing the fate of all other PS3 exclusives. Go out and buy the game, and stop sitting there waiting until it gets a price drop.

Perception16282d ago

It does matter, I actually think it might have sold more, and I want real info which comes tonight, not guesses and estimates.

table6282d ago

there was nothing official about that 1.1m pre-order in europe, it was just a rumour. I dunno why people around here hate VGC despite the fact they are usually pretty close with their figures. The game deserves to be selling MGS4 numbers though.

Ryo-Hazuki6282d ago

NPD is only going to show Killzone 2's sales for the first 2 days....so dont be surprised when you see 300,000 or something along those lines

Real Gambler6282d ago

It's a great game! If you like shooters, it's a must in your library.

Mindboggle6282d ago (Edited 6282d ago )

Look here http://www.guardian.co.uk/t... this is official and shows the Killzone 2 was over 1.1 million pre-orders just in europe, so we still have in shop sales to count. This means that we already know its over 1 million, and this article doesnt mention pre-orders and is just america street sales.

I think if we add some numbers together I think the total number sold should be around 2-2.5 million. If not i will be very suprised. Lets not forget this game is still selling well, its still in the top 3 on amazon and play so its going to sell loads.

Karum6282d ago

There were never any "1 million prerorders in the UK alone" posts.

There were posts saying there were 1.1m in Europe but people assumed it was only Europe because SCEE said it. Personally I think they meant worldwide.

TheExecutive6281d ago

ok well, NPD will only show 2 days worth of data for KZ2. I cant wait for the fanboys to call it a failure ignoring the fact that it was only out for 2 days in Feb.

Everyone will have to wait until April 15th to see how KZ2 is really doing in N.A.

Oh and VGCharts is always wrong; 360,ps3,wii. It really doesnt matter. I bet these numbers are lower than the actual figures but we will never really know and to be honest who gives a sh*t? The game is great fun, its going to be plenty successful, and tell you the truth thats all that matters.

BISHOP-BRASIL6281d ago

NPD is just america.

And PR, as much as they can manipulate the truth, they can't outright lie their numbers, so if SCEE told 1.1 million pre-orders, they better be talking the truth or some stockholders can go mad... Not good when they go mad, people can sue for anything nowadays.

Danja6281d ago

pretty good figures .. im sure Sony and GG are happy with these numbers , the servers are full 24/7 ....

pixelsword6281d ago

I'm never clear about that.

edgeofblade6281d ago

You know, this game is good, but for those who, no matter what it sells, think it should be selling more, be happy with these sales. Ultimately, the game will get the credit it deserves.

shadowfox6282d ago

surprised 2nd week sales are so high... wonder how long it will manage to chart for? good job guerilla and sony!

KingME6282d ago

It should have sold over a million on the release day. IMO

Johnny Rotten6282d ago (Edited 6282d ago )

According to the leaderboards they have 600,000 people who played online so far.
http://www.killzone.com/kz/...

solidsnakus6282d ago

its already sold over a mil then m you always have to add on like 40% for all the offliners

Aquanox6282d ago

I think the duplicated accounts factor could be inflating these numbers a bit.

Lich1206282d ago

Well Im one person who has beaten the single player and hasn't taken it online yet. So if I haven't yet Im sure theres a decent amount who haven't yet.

DaKid6282d ago

if you add on 40% like you say that means there are 600000*1.40= 840000, and I am sure there are more then that. I am just giveing you a hard time.

I am sure this game has sold great, I love the game. It truely deservse to do well.

Mindboggle6282d ago

Use your common sense dude, why would 1 person play online with different accounts ? It doesnt make any sense, you will lose stats, trophys etc

Storm236282d ago

I have no idea what Killzone 2 sold. I hope a lot. I am in love with the game.

But SolidSnakus is right. He saying it sold 1 mil copies at least because...

60% of the people who bought it went online= 600,000

400,000 didn't because 40% of 1 mil = 400,000.

You are putting 40% to the 600,000 people online, not the total sold. Get it? Anyway, no problem.

Ju6282d ago

@Johnny. Haven't looked at that website yet, but man, they track everything there! You can even replay each match! That's crazy.

PirateThom6282d ago

While I don't trust VGChartz numbers,I'd like to think it did at the very least a million.

It's a very fun, addictive game and I hope as many people as possible check it out.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX578d ago (Edited 578d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne577d ago (Edited 577d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro578d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken577d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown578d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72578d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken577d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya577d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast578d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood578d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro807d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72807d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_807d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga806d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos806d ago (Edited 806d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23806d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000807d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin807d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole807d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix807d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989807d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor807d ago (Edited 807d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

807d ago
Michiel1989807d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor1111d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1111d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg1110d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz1491110d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381111d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1111d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1111d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381111d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1111d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761111d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware7301111d ago (Edited 1111d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1110d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1111d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy1111d ago (Edited 1111d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain1111d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright1111d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
