Ninja Blade Propels From Software Forward

Andrew Weymes of The Nightly Gamer writes: "Although From Software has been around for more than two decades, they've never really been a household name like other third party developers such as Capcom, SEGA or Square Enix. The reason for this is because they've stuck to niche' genres for the most part. From Software already has a couple of well known series such as Armored Core and Tenchu but the recent demo of Ninja Blade on Xbox LIVE suggests that their popularity is going to continue to rise."

i love the demo the game look awesome

MrWeymes6254d ago

I expected very little from the demo but came away quite pleased. It has also built my anticipation for Demon's Souls as well which is also by From Software.

zoneofenders6254d ago

well the best game from From Software this gen is Demon's soul.
King's field reborn FTW

MrWeymes6254d ago (Edited 6254d ago )

I'm still waiting for my japanese copy of Demon's Souls to arrive. Have you imported it as well? How is it?

DelbertGrady6254d ago (Edited 6254d ago )

He's probably just trolling. I don't think he's played any of From Software's games. The article mentions Tenchu Z but leaves out Otogi 1&2. From softwares best releases imo. The Tenchu games were only good when Aquire handled them.

I've played Ninja Blade at a friends who's got a modded 360 and I liked it alot. It borrows from both God of War and Ninja Gaiden but does it really well, while it also adds what I would call a blockbuster feel. Everything is over the top and when you thought you had seen it all the game just keeps surprising you.

For me the game got alot better once I had levelled up my weapons and ninjutsu skills a little. It unlocks new moves and magics that are awesome. And you can replay earlier stages just to get more xp, which is nice if you get stuck later on in the game. I only got to the third stage but was very impessed with what the game presented. Well worth my moneys.

Hiruma Youchi6254d ago

Demon SOul ? How do you know that? Wasnt demon soul that game that Scored 70/100 in RpgGamer? and 72/100 in famitsu? Most reviews I saw of Ninja blade at this date were Higher than 75%. So eff you mean with your BEST GAME THIS GEN? eff outta here

get at me

zoneofenders6254d ago

you havnt got your japanese version yet? if you are not good at japanese there is a Asia Version with english subs.
i preordered it from YesAsia. It took 25 day for the game to arrive. Demon's soul sure is a niche game. but it is a niche game with very high quality. challenging battle system instead of mindless button mash, dark and mysterious background. The online mode is also very refreshing and interesting.

however, the difficulty is very high so i would recommend choosing the Noble for the first playthrough.

MrWeymes6254d ago

@Soda

I didn't mention Otogi because I didn't mention many games from last generation although I agree that they were fine games. Also, I talked about Tenchu Z negatively.

@Zone

I have no knowledge of the japanese language but the asian version was just shipped to me a few days ago with english dubs.

Marceles6254d ago

No, Enchanted Arms is the best

/sarcastic comment of the year

IdleLeeSiuLung6254d ago

I tried the demo today in the US Xbox Live, but the controls weren't as good as I hoped. Game is decent though and probably worth a buy once it hits below $30.

MrWeymes6254d ago

lol, Enchanted Arms was a decent distraction when there weren't any RPGs available for either consoles.

DelbertGrady6254d ago

My bad, should have read the whole article before I commented. I was in a bit of a hurry when I wrote it.

SixTwoTwo6254d ago

I got the english version last week and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised at how fun and addictive the game is. Especially the coop. The game is very focused and specific in terms of what your supposed to do. I find this VERY refreshing after going through other RPG's like Oblivion and Fallout 3 where its very easy to get lost and lose focus. You hunt and kill demons. Its simple while at the same time extremely challenging. Explore dungeon, kill demons, collect souls, buy/upgrade gear, rinse and repeat. I love the game but at the same time I find it depressing because Sony's low expectations for its success makes the thought of a sequel wishful thinking. =(

Haters be damned =(

Simon_Brezhnev6254d ago

I can't believe anyone having troble with the controls, I'm 58 years old and didn't have any problems adjusting to the controls in a few minutes! I guess some people just can't play video games!

MicroSony4Life6254d ago

Cause I hated Ninja Gaidens controls and the camera was off allot of times.

mrnjl6254d ago

Its ninja gaiden but with those annoying push this button now or die sequences

I cant stand games that have too much of "push button A now! (i dodge an axe blow)....game continues... push button B now! oops didn't get it in time now Im dead" Poor lazy game design in my opinion

I want to decide how to kill the enemies or how to dodge a guy coming at me on a motorbike and experiment in different ways, not the game telling me what button to hit and when. I also prefer to sit back and enjoy the cut scene not have to look at one part of the screen waiting for a button prompt to come up or Im dead. God of War on PSP especially annoyed me. I actually stopped playing it after 3-4 levels because these sequences were in the boss fights! For me it ruined what seemed to be a fun game and looks like Ninja Blade is also plagued with this rubbish ...what a shame.

MrWeymes6254d ago

Most of the time I would agree that QTE's ruin a good cutscene, but in the case of Ninja Blade, the cool actions don't happen until you've made the button press. I didn't mind the QTE's in the demo of Ninja Blade and I'm looking forward to the full game. I was going to import it, but I have so many games to play that I may as well wait until it comes out in North America.

Sekiro Is Not From Software’s Best Ninja Video Game

Ninja Blade is From Software’s best ninja game of all time, including Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. At least it’s the best version of a specific type of ninja game.

Well aren't you cool? Taking a game that was pretty much universally acclaimed and then saying that one that received mediocre to bad reviews across the board is better... There's always one "hipster" out there with a contrarian opinion.

I don’t remember much of it but wasn’t it a QTE heavy game like Asura’s Wrath and GOW3?

NecrumOddBoy2572d ago (Edited 2572d ago )

It was like the Xbox Ninja Gaiden with an insane amount of QTEs. Not bad but not innovative.

SamPao2572d ago

Asura's Wrath and GOW3s QTE usage are planets apart though :D

Youngindy212572d ago

Both of those games were good so....

5 Games You Didn't Know Were Made by the People Behind Dark Souls

FromSoftware is a game developer that has found popularity in the gaming industry thanks to their widely popular and best-selling series, Dark Souls. The Adventures of Cookie and Cream (Or Kuri Kuri Mix as is known in PAL territories) is actually a pretty good game, and gets damn hard in the latter stages.

I'd love to see FromSoft make King's Field 5, or maybe another Armoured Core. I love the Souls games, but I don't want to see it milked for all its worth.

Duke193664d ago

Didn't they also make the 3D Dot Game Heroes (or something like that).

I actually enjoyed that a lot on PS3

eyoung253664d ago

They actually only handled publishing in Japan. It was developed by Silicon Studio.

eyoung253664d ago

I wanted to keep the entries to their own respective genres. Chromehounds and Armored Core are both mecha. I almost included it though.

DarXyde3664d ago

I came here to learn something new and left disappointed.

DarXyde3664d ago

...I'm saying I knew FromSoft had a hand in all of these games. I would know, I own/ed most of them.

WhyWai883663d ago

Armored Core series producer left From Software.
My guess is the company shifted all focus to Souls series... :(
RIP Armored Core....

eyoung253663d ago

I would love to see them come out with a new IP in the mecha genre. Armored Core was cool, but I think they have expanded their skills to make a more unique game.
