Which is the best development studio this current generation?

I`ll be the first to admit that the Wii is a rebranded Gamecube with next gen controls and that just for the controles alone it deserves to to be counted as current gen imho. And I am also a true believer that its not how many coloring crayons you have, but what you draw with them that matter.

ei. Shadow of the colosus on the PS2 vs Halo on the original, and more powerful Xbox. Both great games btw, just an example of my crayon analogy, there are many more.

with that said I have a few picks of my own, love em or hate em...

As of now I think the best are 2K boston, media molecule, kojima productions and Bioware. This year I think the best will be Naughty Dog, Quantic Dream, Capcom, Polyphony digital and the devs behind Alan Wake.

I agree with you accept for Insomniac dropping the ball with Resistance 2.

The amount of hate that game gets around these parts...just... geez. The majority of critics, according to Metacritic, scored the game 90% or higher. I loved the game and I fail to undrestand the hyper-criticism it gets. Oh, and there's room for it to coexist next to Killzone 2: the two games are very, very different.

Agreed. Capcom have released so many high quality games this gen. Epic have released 3 and IW have released 2 (soon to be 3). Nintendo also with Metroid, Mario, Zelda and Smash Brothers.

Many of the other studios people mention have also released great games, but most of them have only released 1 title while Capcom have released a dozen.

While you might be asking yourself "why is he saying 'no way'?" I can give you on major reason. Lazyness. Lazyness? But they released what..4 games within the past couple years? Yes they are all really fun games, but look at this. I know a lot of people have swapped their PS3 hdds out for larger ones..but how are all ps3 gamers going to be able to have fun with their games when everything they dish out involves a FIVE GIG INSTALL!!! Off the top of my head, the 3 games they have that have mandatory installs are DMC4, Lost Planet, and Resident Evil 5. That is some stupid ass lazy developing. I personally have 280 gigs left on my PS3, but that isn't going to help other gamers that dont. L2Program Capcom.

I don't own a PS3 so I go by my experiences with their 360 games. It's a shame they always put big clumsy installs in their PS3 versions of games.

One thing that I think we both forgot though is that Capcom is a publisher with lots of different development teams under it's roof. Therefore they should be compared to other publishers, not other development teams.

The Wii was released this generation, so it is a current generation machine, it's that simple. Since when was graphical horsepower the only criteria for inclusion in the hallowed next-gen.

id say bungie. All the features they packed into Halo 3, then they put bungie.net on steroids by keeping fans updated every week and making bungie.net the most dfeinitive and detailed Halo 3stat tracker ive ever seen for any game.

Bungie has already released three 3-map packs (Heroic, Legendary and Mythic packs), with one more due out this fall, not to mention they made an agreement with MS to make all map packs free eventually. Bungie also gave the community a free map 1 year after Halo 3's launch.

Then Halo 3 also has an expansion, ODST, coming out this fall with the last map pack.

Its worth mentioning that Bungie tries hard to address controversial, not broken, gameplay issues with updates and but details in their map packs that fans ask for. They give fans what they want for the most part.

You cant argue that Bungie isnt in the top three devs of this gen at the very least.

While I don't think GG are tops they have done more then make "1 good game". They have designed an engine that is capable of so much more then anyone(Or anyone without a PC that costs upwards of 4000$) could have hoped for. Their insight and use of the cell processor and it's abilities are pretty amazing. Them partnering with Insomniac, Naughty dog and Santa monica could create some amazing stuff with combined efforts... They pushed the envelope of what is expected and it shows. Their technology is one of the best, most innovative and revolutionary pieces of software available on the market today and they deserve credit for it. Opinions based on fact. That and they made one hell of a good game too. I don't think as many people on here are as full of S#!7 as you think...

Capcom are doing damn well too. However I still don't think RE5 deserves all the hype people are giving it. It's a last gen game with a fresh coat of paint...

Insomniac? Not for me. I enjoyed their games, sure, but none of them have been particularly memorable for me. I played them and moved on without thinking too much about it. Resistance 1 got a second play-through from me, that's about it. Ratchet & Clank was fun, but it wasn't my thing at all (I know it's a kids game and all, but did it have to be that easy?). R2 I felt was slightly inferior to R1 single-player wise, and I never bothered with Quest for Booty after my experience with TOD.

Valve, on the other hand, have more than proven their worth. Three excellent, innovative games in one single product. You don't get that much bang for your buck anywhere else. Team Fortress 2 is still just the finest multi-player game I've ever enjoyed (I've played TF since the Quake-world days). Portal was innovative in many ways, advancing important areas such as humour and storytelling in games, on top of the game-play mechanics. And Half-Life 2... what remains to be said about arguably the greatest single-player FPS ever? Then you need only look into their back catalogue to further drive it home: CounterStrike(Source), Half-Life, Day of Defeat, Ricochet, Deathmatch Classic, Team Fortress Classic... Then there is Steam, one of the most successful digital distribution applications ever. The list goes on and on.

Bungie and Rockstar have disappointed me this generation. Bethesda have eaten my time with two outstanding and vast RPGs, and are certainly worthy of a nod. Capcom have pulling their weight, but the only game that sticks in my mind is SFIV (Megaman 9 was a smart move too). Infinity Ward have released two quality games this gen, but they've yet to branch out and try anything non-COD, so I wouldn't count them just yet. Epic... well UTIII was a tad disappointing. Yes it was more UT, but I just wasn't feeling it this time around, and I played UT2004 to death. Gears 1&2 are amazing and great games though, so Epic do deserve much respect for them. Especially taking such a risk with the first game, a largely untested mechanic at the core of gameplay which actually proved to be a roaring success.

Guerilla have only made one truly outstanding game so far after three enjoyable, but not great titles. I wouldn't class them in the same league as some of the other developers listed in this post just yet, but I am looking forward to seeing what they can do in the future. In the end, it's gotta be Valve for me.

Yes Naughty Dog released Uncharted which is one of the top three games on the PS3 but what else have they done? It remains the only game the company has released this generation.

Uncharted 2 looks like it is going to be great but until then they only have one game out. Other developers have done a lot more.

Out of all of the new franchises that have been created this generation, I find Uncharted to be my favourite.

I think that it is the most promising new franchise and it is the one that I am most exited about.

I am also basing my judgment on the quality of all of the games released on previous generation consoles. I think ND's track record speaks for itself.

I think that this gen so far goes to Insomniac and Capcom. I don't think that one amazing game justifies picking studio X to be number one. The number one studio should be one that is consistently pumping out amazing AAA and AA games. Insomniac is already working on their 4th game (if you count the R&C DLC). Capcom gave us SF4, DMC4, Dead Rising. I think we should also give EA some props this generation. Just look at Dead Space and the amazing sports games that came out in 2008.

they made the Resident evil series, Devil may cry, Omnimusha, Mega man, Bionic commando, Street fighter 2, Power stone, marvel vs. x-men, breath of fire and a bunch of other games I can't remember right now...

Naughty Dog is Great as well.

Without even thinking: Infinity Ward COD 2, COD 4 and the next COD is undoubtably going to kill every other shooter of this generation. COD 4 is still the king in my opinion. More people play Halo 3 but that's crazy COD 4 is so much better...

I'll go with CAPCOM. Nobody makes the type of games they make from arcades to consoles with so many different genres. SEGA s well.

-Then you have those studios that have 1 Hit wonders.

-As well as some that have like 2-4 decent but not great, games.

-CAPCOM have been delivering since the 80's son.

-On another note, VALVE screams Quality/Support.

Insomniac should be the Most Hardworking Studio. Just look at how many quality titles they pull out this generation. R&C,R1,R2,RR, probably a new exclusive hitting this year. They're on Steam!

I see Capcom getting a lot of votes but I don't think they have done that many good games. Street Fighter IV is good but the demo of RE5 was terrible. Other games like Lost Planet and DMC4 were simply okay.

They didn't develop all those games. One blatant example is Street Fighter 4 which was developed by DIMPS and published by Capcom.

Capcom has smaller studios within their publishing and development house and different people developing different games.

They're a unique company but can't be called the best developer. That would be like calling EA a developer.
