Nintendo DSi v DS Lite

MSN:

"First announced in October of last year, the Nintendo DSi is a revamped version of Nintendo's spectacularly successful DS handheld gaming console.

The DSi has been available in its native Japan for some time but launches across Europe on April 3. At first glance, the device doesn't appear to be vastly different from its predecessor, the DS Lite - but on the inside are some big changes.

Below, we take a close look at the new DSi, side-by-side with a DS Lite, and share the key differences between the two."

I gots 3DS already 2Lite and the old model. Imma get the DSi soon maybe a RED one. Suwoop.

Waste of money. DS Lite was worth the upgrade, this just features tacky media functions that the PSP easily trumps. I'll stick with my DS Lite and PSP over this rubbish.

"cameras are nothing to boast about resolution-wise, both are motion-sensitive and can detect faces...Nintendo also promises that the DSi's motion-sensitive cameras will bring "a new dimension" to gameplay"

This is what calls for most changes in gameplay, a motion sensitive on both sides means the DSi will be aware of which side the player moves it to, thus allowing motion controlled games. I was about to buy a new DS lite shortly before xmas, I'm glad I did not, I will wait for the DSi.

Oh, and it's quite funny that this is on MSN

They forgot the more techie side of things, the stuff under the hood.

The DSi has twice the processing power and four times the ram. This might not mean much now as they're trying not to make the DS Lite useless but it means improved performance and hopefully in the future bigger and better games because they can afford to use higher capacity cards(which are slower).

I have a pre-order for my DSi, had it since Feb. Can't wait.

Blair2306277d ago

Actually the under the hood tech specs are the same as the lite. The DSi originally was rumored with better specs but the only major tech differences are the SD card, the flash memory, the bigger screens and the camera. The processors are exactly the same, the usable RAM the same as well.

gumgum996277d ago (Edited 6277d ago )

The DSi contains a 133mhz processor, as well as, 16 MB of ram.

How else would you explain the DSi's improved browsing and other features?

Blair2306272d ago (Edited 6272d ago )

Actually, no the specs are the same. See the following link:

http://www.joystiq.com/2008...

The specs touted by you were only RUMORED. The other features are due to added hardware (camera, etc.)

SpoonyRedMage6272d ago

Actually the increased specs are correct, or at leas the RAM is because it needs the ram for the browser.

Blair2306272d ago

Can you give some sort of documentation to this? Everything I read states this is NOT the case. There were rumors that the specs would be improved but they were not in the final version.

As far as improved browsing, the fact the system has internal memory it can cache to could explain that.

SpoonyRedMage6271d ago

It definately has more RAM, 16 might not be right though.

alt source saying same thing...

I'll try to find some more info later. Busy at the mo.

I am very skeptical of this. The ONLY person (other than bloggers/people on message boards and rumors) to say it has more RAM is the opera spokesperson. The DSi has built in flash memory. THIS is what replaces the extra memory needed by the DS lite. It is not extra RAM per say. I am assuming it uses the storage space as virtual RAM (much like windows uses virtual memory or the old mac OS did before OSX.

I still need proof to see improved tech specs.

SpoonyRedMage6270d ago

I'm sceptical too now, It's the Opera guys who said about the advanced processor too and whilst Nintendo have said it has better hardware and capabilities they've also said it won't be really advanced. I hope we can get some clarification.

Blair2306269d ago

Yeah..I hate to be that way but it really doesnt look like this will be a major revolution. Kind of a refined DS Lite with a few extras thrown in...

SpoonyRedMage6269d ago

Oh yes, I agree. I think it's mainly to test how multimedia and online features do with the public and then the popular features will carry over.

Although I do think it will be more powerful(processor and RAM) but it won't be an increase like that between generations.

I enjoyed both Rush games, I did think the action was sometimes too fast to see what was coming up in terms of hazards though, which meant replaying the same stage a bunch of times, other than that they were enjoyable, good special stages, 3D sections and bosses for the most part.

DS is one of the best consoles of all time. Such a rich library of software
Zelda were all glorious on it.
