TGR writes"Since its debut as a tech demo at E3 2005 (and then again at E3 2007) Killzone 2 has been a shining ray of hope in the Playstation 3's list of upcoming exclusive titles. With its jaw-dropping graphics, and Guerrilla Games' promise to actually give gamers the "Halo killer" that Sony hyped Killzone 2's mediocre predecessor to be in 2004, expectations for Killzone 2 are understandably quite high. After all, in the wake of the Free Radicals' embarrassingly bad Haze, the Playstation 3's library of quality, exclusive first person shooters as of late has consisted of Resistance 2. And that's about it."

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.
1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland
I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.
Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
The Amsterdam-based studio reflects on its humble beginnings, beloved franchises, and growth through the years.
Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.
32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III
Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.
I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.
Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.
The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.
9/10 is pretty much what's expected from a title of this magnitude. I mean if you look at it, Guerilla had no excuse not to come away with a title this great. With 4 years of development, help from other Sony studios, and I'm guessing some cash, anything lower than a 9 would be a faile if you asked me.
However the one thing I'll disagree with, and with most of the reviews I've read, is the storyline being docked for being "average" or "typical". While it may seem to play out like your conventional shooter, other things make up for it.
1) The graphics and level setting keep your more engulfed in the game than your normal shooter. When I played COD4/5 I was bored. Most, if not all of the stages in Killzone 2 had me paying attention to my surroundings just as much as shooting, which is the first time this has happened since MGS4.
2) The ending is great. I mean, I found myself almost in panic for these poor guys, and they *almost* make Visari sympathetic enough to side with him, which I'm sure some people do. Either way it definetly left me wanting more.
In fact to be perfectly honest, if I had reviewed Killzone 2 the points docked would have come more from the multiplayer than the campaign.
Although the medal system is rewarding as well as the Valor use in Clan Wars is smart, the ranks and online play themselves are kind of (Sorry guys) boring. Every night I'll log into a room and all I'll see are 3 star generals...It's as if you get no satisfaction for the amount of time you put into a game. Although GG has time to impliment an extended ranking system (which I hope they do), had the game issued one from the start I'd be A LOT more addicted than I am now.
The game is one of a kind though...I don't think the majority of PlayStation 3 owners realize how lucky it is to have three titles - MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, and Killzone 2- be as great as they are and as innovative as they are. Definetly a VERY intruiging lineup to non-owners.
its amazing .
This review is really sound in judgement, but I disagree with the priority with which he rates things. He comes out and says that the single player is pretty bad and generic, while the multiplayer is a 10. That doesn't equal a 9 to me. Like I said though, that's just a difference in opinion between me and the writer.
Good review man. I just got my copy (for free by the way! Trying to break into gaming journalism certainly has its perks) and I've been playing it like crazy for the past two days. I haven't beaten the single player campaign yet, but I already feel a bit disconnected from the story. It is just a bit too generic for its own good. One thing that has annoyed me a bit is the sheer amount of expletives in the game. I'm not prude, but it seems like every other word out of every character's mouth is a curse of some sort. It's like the developer's image of tough military men is a bunch of guys who run around screaming f%$@ all day. It just grows a bit tiresome...
I played Killzone 2 to completion last week and logged a few hours into multiplayer, and I have to say that I completely disagree with the praise that it has been receiving. (cue "XBOT!" chants in my direction....sigh)
I kept waiting for something remarkable or exciting to happen in the single player campaign, but except for two or three moments during my playtime, I was left completely unimpressed. Nothing happens in Killzone 2...you fight the same 5 enemy types through 10 levels, and then its over.
There are two instances where you are given a game-changing device to make the game more fun, but both of those items are promptly taken away, leaving you with nothing more than the dull assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols that you use throughout the entire game.
The playtime is another problem worth mentioning, as my entire playthrough was only 5 hours and 51 minutes on Normal. I'm not usually a fan of super long games...but < 6 hours?!?!?
Another problem is that they hint at this massive conflict, but never show it. I almost expected there to be a "D-Day" type scenario, where you see a massive group of Helgast's fighting a massive group of the Resistance, but that never happens. It also ends on a sour note, as the final 20 mins easily ranks as the most dull and uninteresting section of the game.
I didn't going into Killzone 2 expecting the best game I had ever played, but I did expect a competant shooter that would provide some thrilling set pieces and exciting gameplay (ie Resistance 1 & 2). While the actual shooting in KZ2 was fun and enjoyable throughout, the level design was garbage and there wasn't a single "holy s#&$" moment in the entire runtime.
Instead, KZ2 is solid shooter trapped in an unremarkable shell, and those looking for an amazing immersive experience with massive battles and impressive set pieces will be left as disappointed as I was.
