Rumor: Killzone 2 patch has improved the controls

Gamezine: Killzone 2 has been patched to version 1.2. Minor tweaks have been made to the controls.

Some have complained that Killzone 2's controls are "plagued" by input lag. Some say that it is a deliberate move by Guerilla Games to make Sev's moves feel realistic and weighty. I personally think they are two different issues.

The latest patch includes a few minor tweaks to controller input.

Some forumites are saying that the patch has improved the supposed input lag, including the removal of the controller's deadzones (there used to be a delay before turning around.)

thats right, it is great now!!!

thanks GG:)

techie6180d ago

Really!? Online or SP too? What's different? Does it feel like a different game, or just subtle? What have they done!?

Nineball21126180d ago

Yeah... please explain what the difference is.

techie6180d ago

Yes deep is on Neogaf and proud lol

creamydingle6180d ago (Edited 6180d ago )

The control's feel the same to me just awesome like there were from the day K2 got released. If you cant aim with these controls its not the controls that are bad it YOU that is bad at gaming go get a wii.

UnwanteDreamz6180d ago (Edited 6180d ago )

Thanks man! I was worried there for a minute. Can anyone else give their impressions of the change to the controls, if any?

decapitator6180d ago

The man with many faces. Sup man ?

Bnet3436180d ago

I need to check this out once I go home. The lag in the aiming is terrible and affects me greatly. I'm diggin' the online mode in this game, the way you play alot of modes in a huge game, that's very creative.

II Necroplasm II6180d ago

The patch is still not available here for me :(

Mindboggle6180d ago

How can it be a rumour lol. Just download the patch and find out for yourself, i downloaded it but havent played it yet....I didnt think the controls needed patching anyway and I hope they havent messed it up to please the minority of idiots complaining. I have faith in GG though, they know what they're doing.

IdleLeeSiuLung6180d ago

I really respect GG for really listening to their gamers. They have done an amazing job responding to their customers!!!

However, I'm wondering if the control tweaks are just a lot of complaint about nothing and that the tweaks might just change the game for the worse to please a minority. The controls seemed fine for me prior to the patch, but I haven't tried it after yet....

Am I missing something here?

SiLeNt KNighT6179d ago

played it for a bit and im pretty sure they adjusted the 'dead space' SLIGHTLY. like others have said its pretty hard to notice. the fist few milliseconds of turning seems to be a little faster than before. i beat single player on elite so im pretty used to sp controls and you can notice a bit more of a difference there. turning is more responsive and a little less weighty. GG is on top of their game, excuse the pun, but they already released this patch and are working on more with feedback from the community. i think thats why Kz2 turned out to be so good in the first place, GG really listened to customer feedback and made an unmatchable game.

GG is getting more respect from me by the minute.

Statix6179d ago (Edited 6179d ago )

You see, no one can be 100% certain that only a "minority" of people are put off by the controls in Killzone 2. I think a lot of people in the general gaming public, who haven't been hardcore followers of KZ2, or have played a lot of other shooters, will find the controls very different from what they're used to... to say the least. I mean, that's a fair statement to make, right; that the controls in KZ2 are quite different from what we've experienced in other shooters that people may have gotten used to?

A couple gamers and online publications have had major, major gripes with aiming in this game. One gamer, Brad Simmons from 4PlayerPodcast.com, has played a TON of shooters (as well as tons of other games); he played Killzone 2 live on the video feed, and he did nothing but complain about how much of a chore the aiming controls were the whole time he was playing. Seriously, the controls almost completely killed the enjoyment of the game for him. I think out of frustration, he left off at Salamun Bridge and hasn't played since then. He might be glad about some of the changes to the controls that Guerilla implemented in this 1.20 patch.

And he's not an Xbox fanboy either. If anything, he's a PS3 fanboy, based on all the time I've followed him, and all the things he's said on the broadcast.

LoVeRSaMa6179d ago

They have done something to the controls but I dont know if its fixed, cannot aim for shiz now.

oh and Shotgun auto aim is now gone :D

Ldubbz6179d ago

That is funny...I just finished playing the Saluman Bridge part, and man is this game frustrating. The grenade launcher also has to be the worst I have used.

Someone else said in a post a couple of days ago like they feel they get kills out of luck more than anything and I couldnt agree more. The bridge is a perfect example of that. The controls are not nearly accurate enough for the type of mayhem going on. I think there could even be a hit detection problem as well.

I hope they can address these issues through a patch because the game is bordering on being unplayable for me at this point.

Time_Is_On_My_Side6179d ago

lol, are you talking about the miliseconds from the that stupid video on G4?

whoelse6179d ago

Well I tested it and for me the mutliplayer response is quicker, bit more like you would see in COD is suppose. To be honest, I didn't notice any difference for Campaign.

yamamoto1146179d ago

Noticed no difference for campaign. Still feel lots of input delay.

DaTruth6179d ago

"Oh, the controlz are different then we iz use to, but the game doesn't do anything different from generic FPS".

All that bull and scoring down about it being generic and now they're complaining how different it is. These guys are ridiculous.

I love the controls! It takes some getting use to every time I play the game, but after five minutes I always have it down packed.

I haven't even gotten around to finishing the campaign because the online is so awesome.

kwicksandz6179d ago

So much for GG sticking to their design decisions. Though i cant fault them for addressing something alot of people are complaining about.

f7897906179d ago

I usually play fps on the pc so I'm used to precision accuracy in an instant. Go to a console and there will be a delay. With KZ2 that delay became to apparent for me.

RememberThe3576179d ago

Even though I disagree about the controls not being accurate enough, I have noticed the hit response issue your talking about.

Every once in a while I'll get a kill a second after I've let go of the trigger. That or I'll get killed after I've turned a corner. I hope that gets looked at because It can get a bit annoying.

kparks6179d ago

didnt do nothing.. to me the controls still suck.. the aiming still sucks. hit detection is still wrong.......... BUT THE GRAPHICS R GOOD :)

evrfighter6179d ago (Edited 6179d ago )

"Every once in a while I'll get a kill a second after I've let go of the trigger. That or I'll get killed after I've turned a corner."

If you were in a low ping server than you were Interp killed. In a nutshell you may have been behind the corner but the server says you weren't. This is common among fps's so remember that whenever ur fragging. However in CS you can set your interp to match your rates thus lowering interp deaths significantly.

In my experience not many fps gamers know what this is and get it confused with lag.

edit: found a pretty basic explanation of it thx to google.

"Interp is what the server interprets where a player is going to b.

When you have your ex_interp set to .11 (default), you will see a smoother model on screen (teammates, enemies) as the server guesses where they will be. Using ex_interp .01 (I use .009 because my rates at set that way), you will see more "real" frames on your screen, and that may result in the player looking choppy or skippy when you see them run.

Basically the guy saying 'LOL INTERP" more than likely got killed when he was behind a wall on his side, but the server designated him NOT behind the wall due to you most likely using .1.

If you were to use .01 in that situation, you would have probably seen him go behind the wall and you would not have been able to kill him before he went behind the wall.

Did you understand that?"

Rapture3336179d ago

Controls, controls, controls... As soon as I got the demo for KZ2 the first thing I noticed is how weighty I felt I was moving. So the first thing I did was pop into the options menu, turn my sensitivity up and change the control layout to Alternative 2. I'm not complaining at all.

SkolarVisari6180d ago

Better have full button mapping.

xabmol6180d ago

And I'm usually disappointed. >.>

It'ed be cool if the PS3 got a patch to reconfigure the buttons on your controller from the XMB.

GrabthroatShinkicker6180d ago

I'm not a keyboard and mouse guy, but I still think it'd be nicer if Sony added kb/ms-to-controller mapping in the firmware, configurable in the XMB settings menu... Then every game would support kb/ms, gamers who normally stick with PC would make the jump easier, and then people playing online with a hardware adapter or special controller wouldn't have as much of an advantage over everyone else, since people who prefer gamepad could still use gamepads, and people who want kb/ms could just use kb/ms.

I can dream.

DeadlyFire6180d ago (Edited 6180d ago )

Every game should have full button mapping.

@ 2.2. That should definitely be PS4 feature. Most of Sony's plans take a leap into the next generation anyway. They planned for full Keyboard + mouse support for games and XMB for PS3. Very little was done and next generation will improve on it even further. Its like when Sony decided to have online play available on PS2 they waited for PS3 to start setting it up. Same with Hard Drive. They put room for it and space for Hard Drive in the PS2, but they waited until PS3 to require it in the system. They will aim for more keyboard/mouse support in the future.

DaTruth6179d ago (Edited 6179d ago )

Maybe you need a dual shock 3. I hate playing with the six axis now, the DS3 is so much more accurate and has less bugs. With the six axis, once in awhile I would get that spinning thing where I lose control and the character keeps spinning in circles.

This was for the post below, I don't know how it ended up here.

f7897906179d ago

It will replace my work computer. It will be fast as any other computer online and I can do work on it in Linux. And best of all I hopefully can use a keyboard and mouse for any game.

RememberThe3576179d ago

The Dualshock 3 is the best controller out and thats da truth.

kewlkat0076180d ago

..I already do not like like playing shooters with the Dual-shock, so wasn't feel them controls.

Major_Tom6180d ago

Three generations of peripherals is suddenly uncomfortable? Get real.

CobraKai6179d ago

In his defense, the ps1 and ps2 didn't have that many FPS to begin with.
They had some, but not that much. So i understand his discomfort w/ the DS3. I on the other hand think it's quite adequate. I still think they should focus on making FPS controllers like they do with fighting games, music games, dancing games...etc. Seriously, there are far more FPSs out there than those other games and we are relegated to standard console controls.

IcarusOne6179d ago

I hate the DS for FPS. Love it for basically everything else. And the PS3 seems to be going more in the FPS genre. Which is frustrating given how poorly the controller performs with this type of game. I hope the FPS controller hits soon. Joystick + mouse = greatest FPS controller ever.

kewlkat0076179d ago

that's part of the reason...the N64 and Original Xbox is what did a lot for Console shooters.

Unless you can name me one Shooter, prior to PS3, that pushed consoles sales or put console shooters on the map, on the PS brand?

Anyhow the analog locations on the DS is what I hate plus with big hands it feels uncomfortable after a while.

kwicksandz6179d ago

3 generations of badly designed controllers for fps is why fps didnt flourish on previous PS consoles.

The controls have been changed alot on Single player there used to be a clear difference between the single player controls and the multiplayer. Now they both play pretty much the same.

So you no longer have the "weighty" single player controls. Multiplayer wise i cant really notice any difference.

PS3Freak6180d ago

awesome i really don't like the controls.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX469d ago (Edited 469d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne469d ago (Edited 469d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro469d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken469d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown469d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72469d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken469d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya469d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast469d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood469d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro698d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72698d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_698d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga698d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos698d ago (Edited 698d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23698d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000698d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin698d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole698d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix698d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989698d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor698d ago (Edited 698d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar1002d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance11381002d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim1002d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC1002d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance11381002d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle1002d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix761002d ago

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger1002d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca1002d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

lukasmain1002d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
