Ubergizmo: "Earlier today, I saw an interesting article on CNET from Don Reisinger about how the PS3 was hard to develop for, "on purpose". I would like to comment on it and add to the discussion.
As a former PC developer, it's easy to see why the PS3 is more complex to develop for than the Xbox 360. Even if the 360 can be programmed at a much lower level than a PC (basically game devs can code at the PC "driver" level), it is still much closer to a PC than an Xbox 360. The PlayStation instead went for an "exotic" architecture with CELL (among other things) and the end result is that the strong points of both consoles are exactly inverted. For practical purpose, a port from PS3 to 360 then PC is the easiest way to proceed. Given enough time and resources, the PS3 could be a little more powerful than the Xbox 360. But, developers would point out that the real problem is game portability. If PS3 had a huge market share, it wouldn't be a problem, but it doesn't have a big market share.
Is the PS3 hard to program because Sony "wanted" it to be so? Does it have "more juice" because it is hard to program? Finally, is it so important? I'd say "no", "a little" and "no"."

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

FuRuy has opened a Twitter account called “Project Alice” teasing a new game announcement on April 25 at 20:30 JST.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
Cnet *shakes head*
Does anyone notice all this guy ever writes is about Blu Ray and/or PS3 being dead or dieing?
This dude is good for nothing but FUD. And isn't this taken from an article that is actually old?
Guerilla Games, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, SCE Santa Monica, Team Ico, Incognito, and Quantic Dream all seem to disagree with you. So, I'll just pay more attention to the guys/gals that are actually showing with proof through their revolutionary and groundbreaking games than some schmuck talking with nonsense about the PS3 and Sony's business model. Whatever strategy Sony set out for themselves is now beginning to take fruition. I'll enjoy the ride.
i like at the end the author added he has a ps3 only to play mgs4, gh3, and blu rays. typical idiot.
first off, why gh3? that game is the same on 360.
secondly, why does everyone think ps3 has no good games other than mgs4? yeah i know sony is stupid and doesn't market anything, but they have some killer exclusives apps imo that nobody in the gaming media even talks about. sad.
It's only hard to develop for by amateur developers, notice how it's usually one-hit-wonder American devs that complain about the Ps3s architecture.
Even Itagaki, established Microsoft gofer, finds no difficulty in developing for the Ps3.He just doesn't WANT to develop on the platform-which is fine for every Ps3 gamer uninterested in Ninja Boob physics =)
